message 1702: by Anamika (new) - added it

Anamika Kumari How do you do this, writing on a way too different topic, a complete different genre, yet the beauty of your writing is preserved?

message 1703: by Richard (new)

Richard Todd From one author to another what's your secret? I struggle every day and I get no where. It must be the deep pockets of which I don't have.

message 1704: by Jeffrey (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jeffrey If you could spent one day with one of the fictional characters in tCV who would it be and why ?

message 1705: by Dave (new) - rated it 2 stars

Dave Berkers I found the book depressing.I pushed through to the end to see if there was any light at the end of the tunnel. Nope. Enjoyed Cuckoo's Calling though!

message 1708: by Melcan (new)

Melcan How casual you write about The Casual Vacancy? I mean, people knows the starting point you write the HP and this new major big bang, how and why? i think that's what people would like to know about.

message 1709: by Craig (new)

Craig Alexander MacPhee You wrote some adult books under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, what made you decide to write 'The Casual Vacancy' as J.K. Rowling?

message 1710: by D. Elaine (new)

D. Elaine Fields When I heard that J.K. had originally published under a new pen name it occurred to me that she believed her fans to be in love with Harry - and not with her. My question is that after being outted has she come to realize that while yes, we all love Harry and the crew from Hogwarts none of it would have been possible without the awesome author, the real person that brought magic back to the world and that the one we really love is J.K. Rowling?

message 1711: by Isabel (new)

Isabel I would like to tell me , the reason why Professor Lupin killed . Being one of the characters , I think , most beloved by readers of his books.
That Greetings from Chile

Maggie Devine If I could ask JK Rowling one thing about "The Casual Vacancy", it would not be about anything specific to the book, but rather from a writer to writer perspective. My question(s) to Ms. Rowling is:
"How did you make the transition from YA to Adult fiction? Once labeled a YA author, did you find it difficult to shake that title? What were the greatest challenges that you faced in entering a new genre?"
I realize that there are three questions afoot here, however, I do believe that they are all tied. I as well as some of my fellow writers, am in the middle of writing a YA novel but do also write adult fiction (romance) and wonder how to differentiate myself - one from the other. Do I use two different names or do I follow Ms. Rowling's path and use the same name? The challenge involved in transitioning between two genres is one that many cannot boast, but Ms. Rowling has done it beautifully.
Thanks,
Maggie

message 1713: by Dixie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dixie Goode @maggie, obviously I can't presume to answer for her, but she has also written a couple mystery books under a different name, the first was The Cuckoo's Calling and I think the name was Robert Galbreathe but something close if not.

message 1714: by Maggie (new) - rated it 3 stars

Maggie Devine Oh - good to know. Thanks Dixie.

message 1715: by Ahmed (new)

Ahmed Farid I always ask my self why harry potter's adventure turns from a kids bed time story to a semi-horror one?

message 1716: by Richard (new)

Richard Todd I heard about the Harry Potter play and would like to know if it might be adapted into a book one day.

message 1717: by Laurabear41 (new)

Laurabear41 Was it your goal to write completely different to distance yourself from the insane fame that you encountered with your previous works, and is it your intent to become a more secluded writer with this change?

message 1718: by Marc (new) - rated it 1 star

Marc Childs Did you actually write this book? The Harry Potter and Cormoran Strike series are amazing while this is pure garbage.

message 1719: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Ms., Rowling do you know that the Greek, the Roman, the Egyptian, and the Norse gods exist? Percy Jackson {The Greek gods} is real, so is The Kane Chronicles {The Egyptian gods}
The Heroes of Olympus {The Percy Jackson spinoff the Greek and the Roman gods} and Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard {The Norse gods} and The Trials of Apollo { The Heroes of Olympus spinoff the Greek and the Roman gods} are real! The Lord of the Rings is real too! Rick Riordan and JR.R. Tolkien and you and C.S. Lewis and other authors make up stories that seemed really real! So that means it's real! Is it real? What about Ronald Reagan's memory lost after being almost assassinated?
What about The Washington Monument being closed of a four foot unexpected crack? Don't tell me no or I'll know that you and Rick Riordan are hiding a world or worlds I've never known {the fact the Greek, the Roman, the Egyptian, and the Norse gods are real and wizards are real}! I can't speak for J.RR. Tolkien to be hiding anything or C.S, Lewis because they're dead! But yeah I'm pretty sure they're hiding worlds I've never known too! They're hiding the fact Narnia and Hobbits are real! Oh why are authors so mysterious? The 39 Clues are real! The pictures are of real kids! Darn it I knew Rick Riordan and the other authors are hiding something Rick Riordan and the other authors don't tell me no or then I'll know you're hiding something!!! The 39 Clues are real!!!
It's the same with Star Wars! Don't tell me no or I'll know you're hiding the fact J.J. Abrams because Star Wars is real and is a other universe!!! It's the same with Pokémon! Pokemons are real and don't me tell no or I know the government's hiding the fact Pokemons are real! And no I am not mentally ill! I do not have a big imagination! I'm pretty sure Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Kane Chronicles, The Heroes of Olympus {The Percy Jackson spinoff}, Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, The Trials of Apollo {The Heroes of Olympus spinoff}, Harry Potter, The Lord of Rings, The 39 Clues are real plus tons of other books like The Ranger's Apprentice and The Kingdom Keepers! Yes don't tell me no or I'll know you'll hiding something {Rick Riordan and J.K. Rowling}! Don't tell no me about what? That's it fake {fiction} or I'll know you'll hiding something! I'll post this then you can answer J.K. Rowling and Rick Riordan remember don't tell me no or I'll know you're hiding the fact the Greek, the Roman, the Egyptian, and the Norse gods are real and wizards are real too!

message 1725: by Joani (new)

Joani Pearson While I love the Harry Potter series and the Richard Galbraith series, this one reminded me more of Stephen King. I have been known to enjoy a good Stephen King story; but I know what I'm getting when I pick one up. I know it's going to be dark; it's going to say something about less than admirable qualities in the human condition; and it's going to have some anti-heroes throughout. The Potter series did as well; but there were people you could admire and understand and love. I guess my question is - why veer so far from characters who aren't perfect, but are basically good or at least understandable; and from stories that promote hope and love - to a story that seems to wallow in the underbelly of the very worst people can be. I wanted to like it. I've worked for city government. I love this genre. But as much as I admire the author, I didn't want to go along for the journey and I guess that is what surprised me the most. I'm just curious as to why this was the story she chose to tell. I'm sure no one wants to be categorized or trapped into a certain type of story. But why is it so ugly?
