Mc After so much time spent on the series, did you have difficulty putting the characters of Harry Potter aside to create The Casual Vacancy?

Kristina I really enjoyed reading The Casual Vacancy and found it to be completely different than Harry Potter but still just as brilliant. How different was it writing a non-fantasy adventure book after spending years writing about Harry and co's adventures?

Reads by Starburst Casual Vacancy is totally different from the now legendary Harry Potter series.So weren't there any doubts regarding how your fans will react to a subject totally different from their favorite series and even compare or try to find something which connects it to Harry Potter?

Mary Anne In Harry Potter books you based some of your characters personalities on yourself or people you know. Did you do that in Casual Vacancy? And to which characters? By the way being a reading teacher, just want to say what a genius you are with the seven Harry Potter writings.

Karin I felt the characters in The Casual Vacancy were either good or bad and therefore were so flawed they became ogres (for example, Howard Mollison and his family) or didn't have enough flaws, they almost seemed perfect (such as Barry Fairbrother and his wife). Because of it, they came across rather caricatural. Was it your intention to portray them like this or would you, in retrospect, portray them differently?

Sue The characters in A Casual Vacancy are unloveable, while the protagonists in Harry Potter so loveable. Was it difficult spending your writing days with bad guys after living in the magical world of Harry and his pals? Didn't it make you bad-tempered?
