message 501: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Pasco I know you enjoyed writing the Harry Potter series probably as much as I enjoyed reading it. How does it feel to finally be able to establish yourself in a world that is the opposite end of Harry Potter? Was it a relief? Or was it difficult?

message 502: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Why did you decide to do a different genre other then fantasy?

message 503: by Levan (new) - added it

Levan I have no question, I just want to say I love you.

message 504: by Jacques (new)

Jacques who isyour favorite character and why?

message 505: by Sherry (new)

Sherry Ms. Rowling, after the success of Harry Potter, what prompted you to change genres and write a novel for adults?

message 506: by Caitlin (new) - added it

Caitlin I had a discussion with friends last night about whether or not we would retire after writing the Harry Potter series. I said I wouldn't, because most writers write because they love to write, not for money. After writing the Harry Potter series, were you afraid to write another novel for fear of how it would be received?

message 507: by Karen (new) - added it

Karen Were you afraid of publishing a book that was full of flawed and, at times, very unlikable characters after completing a series with so many likable characters?

message 508: by Chloe (new)

Chloe A lot of writers seem to write to please their audience and not for themselves. Did you write Casual Vacancies in order to please yourself and your family or to give your growing audience anither piece of J.K Rowlingbto get their teeth into?

message 509: by Riya (new)

Riya I absolutely loved the harry potter books and movies, will you ever write any other fantasy book series, there's just no other writer that can compare to you

message 510: by Jamie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jamie What character do you think you're most like, and why?

message 511: by Jamie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jamie Do you prefer writing for kids than adults?

message 512: by Fran (new)

Fran I haven't read it. I get so tired of books written for adults having so much casual profanity. I find it distracting

message 513: by Jamie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jamie I am a huge fan of yours, and I love all of your books. Do you think some characters are similar, in ways, to characters in Harry Potter? If yes, who and why?

message 514: by Frances (new)

Frances Harris So what is your next project? Could you direct your own film?

message 515: by Jamie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jamie We know you were on a plane when you thought of the idea for The Casual Vacancy, do you think your inspiration comes from transport?

message 516: by Jamie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jamie Would you like to live in Pagford? and who would you say you're most like?

message 517: by Katie (new)

Katie Crenshaw Of all the questions I could ask the one most oppressing is: will there be anymore? Sequel or otherwise?

message 518: by Julia (new)

Julia Did you use some of you descriptive phrases or figurative language from your other novels and incorrporate them into this book, embelishing them to fit the settings of this new novel?

message 519: by Caloi (new)

Caloi Marie I find it rather interesting how you split the book up into seven parts, just like how you had Voldemort split his soul into seven parts in the harry Potter serie. I ask, why did you decide to do this, to split it into seven and what were your influences to do this?

message 520: by Nicola Hughes (new)

Nicola Hughes how much of a change is it to be writing more adult themed books now rather then writing the stuff you where used to, is it more challenging?

message 521: by Erinmariee (new)

Erinmariee What was your inspiration to right this book?

message 522: by Cherry (new)

Cherry Nelson After writing 7 phenomenal books in a world entirely created by you, how difficult was it to step back into the "real" world and write such a serious and insightful book?

message 523: by Lana (new)

Lana Baldwin What inspired you to write Casual Vacancy or how did you come across the idea?

Dilovely The characters were all so complex - I both liked and disliked all of them. Who was your favourite?

Sharon in Harry potter what present did ginny give harry for his coming of age (17th ) birthday !!!! ???

message 526: by Books (new) - rated it 2 stars

message 531: by Alexis (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alexis How did you come up with the idea of the novel?

message 532: by Laceyann (new) - added it

Laceyann Marie I haven't read the book yet but I plan to. What inspired you to write adult literature after you children's was such a success? Is there anything you took from Harry Potter and incorporated into Casual Vacancy?

message 533: by Krithika (new)

Krithika The Harry Potter books were filled with beloved characters, each close to my heart. Every death made left me grieving deeply. However, The Casual Vacancy doesn't seem to have any such characters. Although I knew all of them by the end of the book, I can't say I liked any of them. Was this intentional?

message 534: by Virginia (new)

Virginia Zimmerman It struck me how much Casual Vacancy is like a contemporary Middlemarch, and I wondered if you would say you were influenced by Eliot's novel in crafting your own.

message 535: by Hadar (new) - added it

Hadar Tanne Hi Ms. Rowling!
In "The Casual Vacancy", I was deeply affected by Krystal's suicide of sorts but the longer I thought about it, the more I realised that I could not imagine any other solution for her happiness once Robbie died. Do you think any other course of action would have given her peace?

Also, on a side note, are these characters as familiar to you as those of
Harry Potter? After all, you spent a decade writing the series and marginally less than that on this new novel; are characters intuitively intimate to you?

Thank you for everything you have done for my imagination and beliefs, currently reading HP for the umpteenth time :)

message 536: by F (new) - rated it 5 stars

F When you wrote The casual vacancy, how did you do the research? In person or articals or on-line researchs or both?

message 537: by Avery (new) - rated it 4 stars

Avery (ThePagemaster) We know that The Casual Vacancy is being turned into a TV series, not to mention the success of the Harry Potter movies on top of that. Do you think that your books would have been as successful if the roles had been reversed? Casual Vacancy a movie and Harry Potter a TV Series.

message 538: by Keisha (new)

Keisha You have reached an amazing level of success that authors wish for not the financial security but having a diverse amount of people appreciate your series (Harry Potter) do you feel you can write what you want now without pressure?

Liz Hines What inspired you to write The Casual Vacancy?

message 541: by Nana (new)

Nana Hi. I LOVED your Harry Potter series, but I've never read this book. Is this also a great book for Harry Potter fans?

message 542: by Paakhi (new) - added it

Paakhi First of all...you are my favorite author!
What gave you inspiration to start this book and if you were inspired a little bit by your Harry Potter?

message 543: by Bryan (new)

Bryan I heard that when you wrote the Potter books, you had children and were writing books for them and, basically, about them. I. E. you write about what you know; is that what you are doing now with Vacancy (I haven't read it yet!)?

message 544: by L. (new) - rated it 4 stars

L. I really liked The Casual Vacancy, and it was written so completely that I don't have many questions. But I would like to know, did things ever get any better for Paul Price?

message 545: by Judy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Judy LeBlanc Will there be more from the town of Pagford and it's occupants?

message 548: by Taylar (new) - added it

Taylar What was the biggest challenge you faced writing The Casual Vacancy and how did you overcome it?

message 549: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I know most of these questions are about your new book, but I still haven't got to read it. So my question is one you probably get all the time. Will there be any series sequels to harry potter, it could be about his kids or something :) Sorry just missing those characters a lot
