M.R. Forbes (mrforbes) | 11 comments I recently ran a free promo on Amazon through Bookbub, and blogged about it here:

If anyone is interested. Hopefully my data will help others make decisions on
marketing their work, especially if you combine those results with these:

Summary: If you can do a Bookbub promo - do it. In my experience, it pays for itself in spades.

Alexes | 122 comments I had a BookBub promo in May. I cannot sing its praises loudly enough. I echo what M.R. said: If you can do a BookBub promo, do it.

Hi Alexes! What genre is your book in? And was it 50,000 words or more? I was just disheartened when I read their guidelines that suggest a 50,000 word minimum for consideration... Hmmm...

Alexes | 122 comments Hi Don. My genre is science fiction/fantasy and the book was 80,000 words. I, too, think it's sad they won't take anything less than 50,000 words, which cuts out novellas, short stories, and some collections, but it's their game, they get to make the rules. I suppose you could always try with something shorter. The worst that can happen is they say no.

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 2274 comments 90 bucks? No way. If I pay to promote I want to be guaranteed it's going to sell or at least reach, thats a big gamble for that much.

M.R. Forbes (mrforbes) | 11 comments It's about the best marketing gamble you can make. There are no promises in any kind of advertising, but the fact is I went from 30 books at day at the high end to 70... at $3.99 each, $2.70 royalty... I made the $90 back in ONE day.

YMMV of course, but the biggest challenge for an indie author is visibility, and reaching 180,000 people is serious visibility.

Keep in mind, Bookbub only lists 2-3 books per email (at least in Fantasy, if your genre is different, e-mail them to find out). You aren't at the bottom of a long list that recipients won't scroll to the end of.

Geez, I feel like a salesman. I'll shut up now :D

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 2274 comments I don't know, I'd need to see some figures and some serious results from others that have used it to even consider such a deal. The good part is if it works then yes your right, you make your ninety back and then some. However if it doesn't work your down 90 dollars. I suppose if your swimming in cash and can afford to give up 90 then its no loss but to others not so much
