Who would you save that died in Harry Potter?

I'm seeing a lot of "Dumbledore"s. As much as we dearly miss him, he had to go. I mean a lot had to happen and had to play off of his death the seventh book was completely dependent off of his death. He lived out his life, and nothing would have happened that NEEDED to happen if he had been saved. I can only think of three characters that didn't NEED to die. Remus, Tonks, and Fred. I seriously can't think of anything that would change, except some happier fans, if they were saved. I feel so bad Teddy, and for Fred's brother. ANOTHER child orphaned by the likes of Voldemort, and a twin who lost his other half. Those are the three I would bring back.

I literally can not pick three. Fred NEED to live for Geroge. Harry NEEDS to live with Sirius. Teddy NEEDS his parents. Dobby HAS to live as a free elf. And I NEED Dumbledore to live. Haha.

Fred's death had a purpose, from an author's point-of-view. The reader got close to the Weasley twins in the book. By his death, the reader became emotionally attached to the war's outcome. Almost all the deaths produced this. Yes, in an ideal world, all our favorite key characters would have survived. But Rowling was wise in showing how horrible and unprejudiced war actually is when it chooses its victims.My only indictment against Rowling is that it made the books feel almost TOO real. I was physically shaken when I discovered the death of all these key characters, as if I knew them personally and had lost them.
I do think, for the purposed of defining a "happy ending", that it would have served Rowling to have left Fred alive, as well as at least one of Teddy's parents. The rest were well chosen. Perhaps a trade-off. Instead of Fred, kill Slughorn. Instead of Remus (or Tonks), kill Sprout or perhaps even McGonagil.
If I had have written the books, I would have killed Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. And I would have killed them at the hand of Voldemort. I would have started Draco's reformation with this, and I would have defined Draco as more benevolent and reformed in the flash-forward scene. I would have depicted a scene of final reconciliation between Harry and Draco, which would have been a testament to Harry's character as well as Draco's, since Draco's actions led to the circumstances which resulted Dumbledore's death.

Apologies, I didn't mean that Malfoy should intervene in Harry and Voldemort's final battle. Not sure what I said to lead you to think that. I just meant that, in the end, it would have been nice to see Harry and Draco reconciled, and perhaps even become friends in their adult lives.
Interestingly enough, I do believe Harry's strength was in his friends. Harry was able to easily defeat Voldemort once the horcruxes were destroyed, and many of the horcruxes were destroyed by Harry's friends, not Harry himself.
So, to say that the story is actually about Harry and Voldemort is somewhat myopic. It is even hinted at the Harry might not be the prophesied savior, since Neville was also born during that time. It was always just assumed it was Harry since he was the one Voldemort initially went after, and because Harry inadvertently became a horcrux himself.

So why choose some over the others? Those characters became even more dear to us because we knew they died, and all of them had someone within the books to care about them. All of their deaths were devastating but I really could not decide who deserved to live the most and with whose death I could live.
And as another great wizard once said: "Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."
Voldemort, maybe if he didn't die there would be another Harry Potter book.Other wise, Fred Lupin and Tonks.

This is SOOOO hard! I will have to go with Sirius, Lupin & Tonks (They count as one right?) and Fred.

1. Sirius - he was my favourite character and I was really shocked when he was killed off. I think it also affected Harry really badly and made the end of book 5 incredibly dark. 2. Fred - killing him off was just very, very mean.
3. Cedric - his death started off the whole 'it's Okay to kill off characters at the end of the books'. Perhaps if his death didn't happen, none of the others would either...

As painful as it was, very few characters could be saved and not have the story affected. dobby, snape, dumbledore, sirius, all had to die for the story. Fred, maybe not so much.

Sirius Black - too many deceased parental figures for Harry. My best friend threw the book across the room when he died, and I cried like a baby. He was just full of so much potential story material. Harry had plenty of fuel for his angry youth phase even without this loss. I almost stopped reading the series right then and there!Sirius would have made a great grandparent, too! I can only imagine the trouble he'd have gotten the next generation into!
Fred, Sirius and Tonks. Sirius & Tonks could have raised Teddy together and keep the memory of his father alive, and Fred is needed because he's a Weasley, and the Weasleys are the most perfect imperfect family ever.

I don't know if I could only choose one person. Almost all my most favorite characters had to die. I would say everybody who died except for Voldemort
If I could save any characters I don't know who I would save. Maybe Dobby because I feel like it was least necessary for him to die, then Tonks then Lupin.

Even though I would really like to save Dumbledore since he is an extraordinary character, his death was significant to the themes, because after his death, harry didn't have someone who could really protect and care for him after his parents' and sirius' deaths.

I stopped reading for a year because Sirius died. Who would I save.. so many. If I must name three though... I'll say them quick before I change my mind or want to add more: Sirius. He was going to be the other dad for Harry. He never had a family except for James and then James was killed and he was put in Azkaban for a chunk of his life. What a miserable life he had. Meeting Harry briefly and the short years he had with James were his only happiness. I wanted more for him in his life. And he was going to have a family member again. And Harry, one for the first time. Just introduced and then Sirius had to leave or be caught and taken back to Azkaban (Prisoner of Azkaban). And then after being a family for an awfully short time Sirius was killed off. He was always robbed of what is called 'family time' which would have resulted in (more) happiness and cherished happy memories.
Fred. God think of all he's left behind and never experienced, all the laughs he'll never have, the pranks he would have played, how he would have teased his brothers when they each got a girlfriend and then a wife and kids, same deal for Ginny. He was a sparkle, a flash, he added life to the whole ordeal. His partner in crime (George) will always be alone now. The poor girl who will never have Fred to call her own. His mother who had to bury her baby. His siblings and people who cared for him. All the people and creatures who were robbed of the opportunity to meet him. I wanted little George and Fred babies to run around and create havoc like the masterminds themselves. To be alive, I want Fred to be alive. He was so much, so bright with life, so everything. Now he's just a memory that with time will get hazy.
Severus Snape. Yes, I said it. Did the guy even have any carefree unpolluted happiness in life? I feel for him so much. I can see him dying in that room. Remember how much he loved Lily Evans. He fell for her so young and so hard. I think her laugh and brightness made him fall. He never knew love, his parents weren't parents to him. The only friend he made became someone he loved and someone he had to give up. He really needed some love and friendship in his life. He'd be so different, wouldn't have had to go out the way he did and wouldn't have suffered so much. It looked like Lily would be the one, his savior, but then nope she's ripped away from him. He was young and made a bad choice of people to follow and hang around. That caused him everything. Everything was taken away and he got shackled. Even though he must have loathed himself and Voldemort he had to continue thriving and stay around someone who took his everything, the future (Lily) he'd wanted. And he was stuck babysitting the spawn of the guy who took his 'future' from him (James). And he was reminded of how stupid he was, he probably hates himself and feels guilty every time he sees Harry who has Lily's eyes. "Look at me" he said, he wanted to see Lily's eyes before he died, as he was dying. I don't think he would have been so bitter and high-handed if Lily had stuck with him and filtered out the bad from him. Snape has this background and story that just lacks. He wasn't loved enough, given to enough, laughed enough, had happiness (at all or enough). He's a heartbreaking, misunderstood character. He's my favorite character and he was unfulfilled to the last moment he died.
If I had to pick one, it would definitely be Fred. But if I could save multiple characters, I would choose Fred, Sirius, Snape, Luppin, Tonks, Dobby, Dumbledore and Alastor Moody.
Screw saving three people. I'd save Fred, Sirius, Lupin, Tonks, Dobby, Dumbledore and Snape. why? just why did she have to kill them off? i know that the story wouldnt be the same without them dying, but still. you know what really isnt fair? that these good people died but Umbridge didnt!

Snape deserved a more grandiose send-off. But then again, on the other hand, it was perfect. Snape = Integrity, right down to the last breath.
Sirius, Dobby, and FredI don't see how Fred had to die. It wasn't that important in the story and they kind of brushed it off!
Snape, Dobby and Lavender Brown. The first two went trough so much shit they deserved a happier ending. Lavender was just an innocent girl I felt empathy for who got involved in a war, it wasn't fair.
Of course I would save Dumbledore because, as I've already said before, he's the most intelligent character in the book. Every time I watch the scene when he dies I feel so sad, I think it is the most painful moment in all Harry Potter books because Dumbledore is more than a simply headmaster, he has been the most important person for Harry than everyone else. Saying just few and sweet words he managed to help Harry in all his adventures. So, I would like to save him because without simplicity, intelligence and love we can't go further, we can just stay in our "pitiless" rationality.
