Just when I get in to one, it ends!"Finished it last night, so now I feel like I can genuinely encourage you to keep pushing on - it's worth it! Now I can't wait to get my hands on more David Mitchell.

I read it a couple of times as a teenager - really enjoyed it. Might be time to dip my toes in again?
I'm starting late to this challenge but have only picked up my copy of The Silver Linings Playbook from the library today. It doesn't look very lengthy so I should be able to have it finished by the end of the month :)

Thanks Brenda, at this early stage I'm struggling a little with the writing style but we'll see how it goes :)

I read it first in my early twenties and even now, twenty years on, I still feel like I'm reading it for the first time. Go on, read it again:)
Finished my reread of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets so that's another knocked over for this challenge.

I don't think I'll get through Cloud Atlas. At the moment I'm really only reading it on my lunch breaks at work, and reading other books at home. But I definitely will finish it at some point.

I've read my book into movie, City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, I gave it 4 stars, I liked it, the start of what looks to be like a good series.

      Finished

by Kate Atkinson, just as good second time round ★★★★★ now just have to finish a few more in the series and get the DVD out from the local library.....

It is a pretty good series but I don't think the later books are quite good as the first one

I'm over half way through Atlas Shrugged / Ayn Rand and am loving it! But as I've said before it's a long read and quite heavy. So haven't finished it but should have it knocked off by the weekend...

But it's a great read anyway and I'm so glad a friend gave it to me
My copy is 1200 pages long I think - would probably be the longest thing I've ever read, and probably take me a good 2 weeks. I don't read long books very effectively. :PAshleigh wrote: "I would sit at a table when I read that."
I would say that is a good idea.

No problem Nicola, just don't turn the page over on your calendar;)

That's enough to put me off! That's the equivalent of 3.5 books for me;)

It would definitely be the equivalent of 2-3 books. Maybe you can count it as such??? Lol. My husband read it and loved it so I will get around to it at some stage. Just not when I'm doing a challenge!! Good on you for giving it a go and I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Barabbas by Pär Lagerkvist ★★★★Squeezed in one more for my 'Season Anthony'! It seems to me I have a reading buddy, almost like listening to an audiobook - I can hear and see him as the various characters. Can't stop now and have started a personal challenge for all things Anthony. Will he be an Inuit, the Pope, Gaugain, Henry II ..... Can't wait.
Oh and before I forget - I enjoyed the book!
Phrynne wrote: "Okay - so it's a long book. But is it any good?"I'm mainly interested because it was the inspiration for one of my favourite video games of all time, Bioshock. It has a tremendously good reputation, though.

Not really. I believe opinion is actually very divided.

I'm going to use this as a way to read one that's been on my shelf for a while unread, Sleepers by Lorenzo Carcaterra. For anyone looking for a suggestion, one of my favorite books to movie title's is The Beach byAlex Garland :)
Well using Goodreads as the universal average, 150,000~ reviews resulting in a touch under 4/5. I'd say that's a good reputation considering the sample size.

Sorry Liam. Misunderstanding. I didn't mean to debate the fact that it is a classic and lots of people like it. What I meant was that people have hugely different opinions of it. The people who don't like it REALLY don't like it. The reviews make very interesting reading and so far have not made me inclined to read it. So I was interested in what Nicole thought.

I have to admit to being a bit disappointed with The Silver Linings Playbook as the main character has quite an obsession with an American football team (the Philadelphia Eagles), in which I have no interest at all. Perhaps the movie version will be more to my liking.

A shame you didn't enjoy it as much as you would have liked Kim, but as you say, if you do see the movie, hopefully it will be better:)

I'm really enjoying it! The only thing that is making it a long read for me is the small writing in my version and the fact I need new reading glasses!
The world of dystopian novels has always been divided, you either love it or hate it! There never seeems to be a middle view - I've jst reread Brave New Wrold for my bookclub and I was the only one who loved it - the others hated it and some couldn't even finish it and I think Atlas Shrugged is the same...
It's an interesting mix of the future while still referencing the 1930s world it was written in....

I didn't think there to be many similarities at all.
Thanks Trina, I'll be interested to see the movie now.....at least when I read the book I was able to picture the actors chosen as the main characters :)I'll let you know when I've seen the movie Brenda!

I enjoyed the movie of The Silver Linings Playbook more than I liked the book. They changed a lot and left out a huge amount of the book which is usually a bad thing. In this case if you don't like football it is a good thing!!!

I almost got all the way through The Lord of the Rings this month. It's been a while since my last foray into Middle Earth so this really showed how much the movie versions had coloured my remembrance of the story... despite my best efforts to separate the two!Still a favourite escape.

That was a good one to choose. I didn't think of that.

Ok so I finally finished Sphere. I enjoyed it, can't say I have ever watched the movie though. So maybe I will get around to doing that at some stage. I'm so behind I've finally started the August challenge today :)
