The Room of Requirement

Matthew's rage only flared up deep inside him when Pyle dared to look him in the eye and challenge him by hiding behind a young girl from his own house. However, under the rage burned a fear. Fear that Pyle would discover Matthew's weakness and use it against him. Fear that it would get back to the higher ups about Dorie and him training her and getting closer to her. Fear that she would be destroyed by the corps either mentally, emotionally, or physically and that the young girl would be taken away from him just as his sister was. But Matthew kept all these emotions hidden from Pyle under a steel cold exterior.
"You may stay if you wish, Dorie. But if you have things to do or would rather leave, then you may. It is up to you entirely. However, I myself find the night waning and need to return to the tower. Goodnight." He said before turning to leave.
However, he stopped at the door and spoke one last threat to Pyle without so much as turning his head.
"Be cautious on your way back to the dorms. The castle can be dangerous at night."
With that ominous warning hanging in the air, Matthew left the Room of Requirement to plan his next move.

As Matthew's heel turned around the corner, Thomas let out a huge puff of air, and smiled at Dorie. He wanted to apologize, to explain. Matthew had confused him, he didn't know how he was feeling, or what he was planning next. Thomas wore a quizzical expression, turning the image of Dorie and Matthew over in his mind.
He was seriously considering telling the higher-ups about Matthew's seeming...connection to Dorie, but he was afraid Dorie would be on the receiving end of some nasty treatment from the Corps. He didn't want her involved, and he was positive it wasn't exactly Matthew's place to be training new recruits, if that's what he had been doing, in fact.
His gaze returned to Dorie, who was smiling kindly and offering him her hand.
"If you really wouldn't mind," Thomas replied, trying to still his quivering hand. Hers was warm, it was incredible to him that someone so small and young could be the source of someone he'd known for a matter of minutes. "That would be lovely."

((awww!!! Okay, so I have an idea that Matthew meets with each of them separately, first with Dorie somewhere safe and explains everything to her. Well, almost everything(not gonna go into the Nicolas business) and then goes to confront Thomas but when he realizes Thomas doesn't want Dorie hurt and isn't planning on reporting Matthew to the higher ups, the form an uneasy alliance, with Matthew telling Thomas to keep an eye on Dorie. Don't get me wrong, Matthew is still evil. But now he has a soft spot for Dorie and makes sure no one from the corps or Nicolas goes near her via Thomas.))
((I like it! The only thing is...I think Thomas might be considering reporting Matthew, but he just doesn't want to see her hurt. I don't know. But I think he could lie and tell Matthew that he wasn't planning on doing it...even if he was. What do you think?))
((I've actually gone and archived Tom's character for now...we figured since Lyra left, it's too hard to continue on with the Nicholas Morth plot line. What do you think?))
"No, Dorie, please stay," he quavered, trying to sound as confident as he possibly could. He truly was worried though, he wasn't feeling as cool as he normally did, and as selfish as it was, he wanted to know the real reason why Matthew was hanging around someone like Dorie. Or maybe, he really was trying to teach her to defend herself.
But why? Matthew had never shown a smidgen of human interest in the past, why now?
Looking Matthew straight in the eye, Thomas spoke slowly and carefully, rolling the words over in his mouth before speaking them. "Unless Matthew would prefer that you leave," he said, looking narrowly at Matthew, daring him to respond.
Thomas felt a little boost of confidence. He'd never, not ever, stood up to Matthew, barely even in thought.
