Tom looked at his watch, and he realized he needed to be back at the common room in just three minutes. "Skylar," he said quickly, packing up his things.
"I have to run, I'm going to be late," he said, smiling. "It was great to meet you. And I'll try to find out about Matthew. I promise," he said, slinging his things over his shoulder, and walking to the door.

Skylar frowned a bit but nodded and smiled. "Alright. Thank you! And Tom!" She called as he left. "Be careful. If this about what I think, I don't want you getting hurt." She said.

Tom smiled, wondering what Skylar meant. Did she know Matthew was here? That he was here and working with the Corps? How could she know? Did she suspect Tom?

"I'll see you around," he said, and pushed open the door, out into the empty hallway. The door vanished behind him with a pop.

((I'm so excited for this RP!!!!!!! XD))

Matthew waited in the Room of Requirement for Dorie. The room was perfectly equipped for their lessons which were now almost daily. Matthew had started them being once a week, then every other day, and now had them almost every night. Dorie had progressed exceptionally and Matthew intended to keep pushing her to become better. He planned to start her on silent spell casting that night. It was a skill the school didn't teach till around fifth or sixth year, but Matthew decided it was too important a skill to be left till she was older. She needed to know it now.

Matthew frowned and drummed his fingers as he watched the clock in the corner of the room. He was growing impatient. "What's taking her so long?" He muttered darkly under his breath.

((So sorry!!! School started back up and it's been hectic!))

Matthew frowned a bit when he felt the room opening up to someone. Matthew knew it was probably Dorie but in the Corps, it was safer to never assume you were safe. He placed a hand on his wand when the doors opened, tensing for a moment. However, when he saw it was Dorie, her allowed himself to relax and let go of his wand.

Matthew frowned disapprovingly at the small girl, crossing his arms. "It had better not." He told her firmly. "Otherwise I'll think you don't take these lessons seriously. And if you don't take them seriously then you're wasting my time." Matthew sighed and shook his head. "If Peeves was such a problem, you could have used one of the many spells I've taught you to scare him off or get rid of him." He added. "You need to learn that these techniques and skills I'm perfecting in you are meant to be used outside of this room. Just do not make a show of it, otherwise people will begin asking where you learned it." He told her.

Matthew sighed and took a deep breath. "But now that you're here, we can begin. Today we'll be working on speechless casting. We'll start simply with Acio." He told her, placing a glass of water on the table. "Lift the glass without speaking or spilling the water." He instructed, stepping back to watch her. "Concentrate. You must put more energy into your wand than normal and get the wand movement perfect."

((hey! I'm so sorry! I've been insanely busy with school and work and tests!))

Matthew frowned a bit. He could tell she was scared of him when he was her teacher, but he did it for a reason. For one, magic of this difficulty needed a firm grasp and teaching. And also, he was trying to prevent himself from becoming soft like he had been before the Corps.

Although, despite his best efforts, the young girl was worming her way into his heart. And with every accomplishment, Matthew felt pride and happiness for her. He had to make sure to keep her a secret from Julian and Thomas for as long as possible. If they found out, they'd begin questioning him and doubting his superiority. They might even inform the Corps and his family about it. That was something Matthew couldn't allow. He had worked too hard for it to come crumbling down for a child.

Matthew watched as Dorie made the goblet float to her. When she caught it, Matthew smiled slightly in spite of himself, and nodded to her in approval. "Well done, especially for your first try. You've progressed very far in your lessons. But it's unlikely Acio will save your life in a duel or if you're attacked like that day in the forest. You need to master defensive and offensive spells silently. In a duel, using silent spells gives you a huge advantage because your opponent won't know what spell you're using or how to counter it." He explained and looked to the side. The room provided a dueling dummy. "Try a simple disarming spell on the dummy."

Matthew couldn't help but smirk slightly in satisfaction at Dorie's success and nod. "Decent." He said, which was the highest praise he'd given her in a very long time. But it quickly ended with a scowl appearing on his face.

"But you should have been able to do it the first try. Your movements weren't sharp enough. And your mind was getting in the way. How many times do I have to tell you that thinking too much and focusing are two different things?! When you get inside your head, you hinder your abilities! Your magical energy flows through instinct and feeling! Not logic!" He told her passionately, scowling disapprovingly at her. He sighed and rubbed his face, still scowling at her.

"Again. Again and again till you can do it on the first try every time. There are no second chances in duels." He ordered.

Matthew smirked in satisfaction when the Dummy went soaring across the room and was about to congratulate her... when he heard her sobs. Matthew froze and felt his heart tremble slightly within him as he turned to look at the young girl sobbing on the floor like a wounded child. For a moment, Matthew saw his long dead sister, and he realized he had been to harsh with Dorie. Letting his gentler side come out, the young man knelt beside her and wrapped his arms around her in a comforting hug, gently stroking her hair to help soothe her.

"Shh, it's alright." He told her gently. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so hard on you. You're skills are far beyond what they are for most children you age. I keep forgetting how young you are and I'm sorry for pushing you so hard. You are doing exceptionally well. I just want to see you excel. That's why I'm so hard on you." He confessed. Most of what he said was true, it was just weird for him to let his kind side come out from his harsh, cruel exterior. "I'm sorry, Dorie. I'll try not to be so hard on you."

He continued to hug her gently, wanting her to stop crying. He had never been good with girls he was relatively close to crying. It was the only time he was ever genuine and caring towards Skylar after he had joined the Corps and they'd begun dating. And now that same weakness was coming out for Dorie, who he saw as a younger sister. If anyone found out, not only would he be punished for such a weakness, but Dorie would suffer greatly for being his weakness as well. His need to protect her only seemed to grow with each passing day.

Thomas was striding down the corridor, then stopped suddenly in front of a blank patch of wall, just beside a quite grotesque portrait of dancing trolls.
He was perfectly familiar with this area of the castle, and began to pace back and forth in front of it, almost without realizing he was doing so.

Tom escaped to this little secret quite often, and always sought out silence and peace when the noisy world he called home was being particularly loud.
He usually had one ideal description of the room that he used, and he whispered under his breath.

I need the place where I can unwind.
I need the place where I can unwind.

He opened his eyes and looked at the wall, and a wooden door had appeared in front of him.
Tom used this room to practice wandwork, study, or read, and it was littered with books, and some training dummies and such.

Looking up and down the hall quickly, he hurried to the door and slipped inside before anyone had the chance to spot him. He turned and quietly shut the door with a creek, and turned.

Before he had fully grasped what was going on inside the room, he noticed a little girl, 14 at most, on the ground crying weakly. He rushed over, and knelt at her side. "Are you alrig-"

He stopped.
He had just realized that they were not alone in the room, and his eyes followed a pair of feet standing in a corner. Once Tom realized who it was, he sprung to his feet.

"Mr. Anderson." he said graciously, sweeping into a low bow. "Forgive me. I had no idea you were...here." Thomas's heart was racing. He had no desire to be on the receiving end of one of Matthew's curses again, ever again. He was so scared he almost forgot all about the young girl huddled in a heap at his feet.

((I finally have time to reply!!! I’m so sorry it took so long!!!!))

Matthew was about to further comfort and consol Dorie, to tell her they could take a break and that it was alright for her to rest when suddenly the door opened. Matthew quickly stood up and backed away from Dorie before the person could see that he had been comforting the crying girl. He couldn’t allow anyone to know of his weakness, it would put Dorie in danger and give them leverage over him, which he could never allow.

However, when he saw it was Pyle, Matthew’s eyes narrowed with disdain and disgust. He couldn’t curse the imbecile in front of Dorie, and he couldn’t very well lie about what they were doing in front of her either, she’d ask too many questions about why they had lied and she wasn’t ready for the truth yet about how dangerous and lucrative his life was. But he also couldn’t let Thomas know about the lessons otherwise he’d know Dorie was important to Matthew and insist on inducting her into the corps officially. For the first time since he had killed Skylar’s brother, Matthew found himself in a position that left him only two bad options and he didn’t know which to accept.

“Pyle,” Matthew replied, his voice laced with an implied disdain and annoyance. “I hope you come here for good reason and that no one watched you enter. I thought I made it very clear you weren’t to associate with me or come near me in public.” He sneered, trying his best to keep Pyle’s thoughts and attention off Dorie. If he could distract him enough and get him out of the room, he might avoid both bad outcomes entirely.

((Oh gosh, no Grace it's my fault, it is my turn! Forgive me girls.))

Thomas looked at the floor, his head bowed respectfully towards Matthew. "Forgive me, sir, as I said I wasn't aware anyone was using the room. I have no reason other than I wanted some quiet to study, this is where I normally come," he said carefully, watching every word.

He doubted that Matthew would torture him in front of the little girl, but she opened up a million questions about what was going on. Who was she? Another spy for the Corps? Was Matthew torturing her too, is that why she was crying?

"If you don't mind," he paused, looking sideways at the young girl, who had stood up and brushed herself off. Thomas inwardly fumed. How dare Matthew treat a girl this way. First Skylar, though he had no evidence, but there was something amiss there too. "Who is this?" he jerked his head at the girl, who stepped back a little.

Thomas immediately regretted the question, for Matthew took a step forward, his expression turning somehow more malicious. Thomas knew he would pay for this whole encounter later, and he tried not to fidget.

"Forget my questions, Matt- sir."

((I'm trying to figure out how to bring Dorie into this DX))

Matthew's eyes narrowed slightly when Thomas asked about Dorie. "I should think you would know someone from your own house, Pyle. But it seems yet again your idiocy surpasses even my expectations." He sneered, not bothering to hide his disdain for Pyle from Dorie any longer. She was smart enough to have seen it when the Ravenclaw boy walked into their classroom.

"As for my association with her, I believe that's none of your concern. And should you continue to pry into my affairs or poke that brown nose of yours around where you are not welcome, you'll find it missing one day." He added, hatred burning in his veins.

Intimidation was the only tool he had to keep Thomas away from Dorie at this point. Matthew's hand twitched slightly, itching to whip out his wand and put it to Pyle's throat. But such an open and aggressive threat might scare Dorie away from him. He had to wait for Pyle to leave so that he could explain everything to her.... well maybe not everything, but at least the reason why he was trying to keep her from her fellow house member.

Thomas didn't know what to do, he couldn't exactly point out how they knew each other, and he realized that the girl was an underclassman in his same house, a fellow Ravenclaw, Dorie.

"Miss," he said, inclining his head toward her politely. Tom's eyes flitted towards Matthew, who was eyeing him darkly. He noticed that Matthew looked jeering and proud, but under that, he noticed a slight hesitation, a nervousness he'd rarely seen on him. "Mr. Matthew and I have known each other for years, our families are close. I'm afraid...we are not. We don't exactly get along," he said kindly, for he still was trying to figure out what Dorie was doing here, with him.

Clearly, Matthew hadn't tried to recruit Dorie though, because she would know about him, surely. Or Fortis, she'd have to know something. But she didn't.

Addressing her again, he lowered his eyes. "There's nothing to understand, just an old rivalry," Thomas said firmly, and quickly looked at Matthew, wondering what he was thinking. Tom hoped he had said the right thing, he feared for later when Matthew could do whatever he wanted to him.

"Matthew," he said quickly, looking at a spot a little to the left of the boy's shoulder as he spoke, "When did you meet the lovely Dorie? You two seem like an odd pair," he said, faking a smile in Dorie's direction.

He hoped against hope that Matthew disregarded this offhand question, and just answered. Did he not realize that he had to share some things with himself and Julian? Though he was technically in command, he had to inform his spies of some of the goings on, or else they would both be woefully uninformed.

Matthew tenses when Pyle continues speaking to Dorie and explaining their acquaintancishp to her. He had no business doing so, Matthew had already planned to do that once Pyle was gone. Though, he supposed his curiosity assured Matthew that Pyle was a good informant and wanted to keep in touch with everything. However, for the moment, it was interfering with Matthew’s life and irritating him to no end.

“Where we met is none of your concern, Pyle.” Matthew sneered slightly, putting particular hatred and disgust in his town when he said Thomas’s name. “But, if you must know, we met at the edge of the Forbidden Forest some time ago. Is that all? Or does your pointless interrogation have any further questions?” He asked in a bored tone that held a quite evident underlying tone of annoyance and growing impatience.

Thomas raised his eyebrows, straightening his back and looking at Matthew. He was nervous, but his posture was straight, and nothing looked quite out of the ordinary. "How..." he searched for a word that would be 'appropriate' in Matthew's eyes. "Admirable of him," he said carefully.

He then realized he hadn't been polite, which Dorie would expect. Thomas decided that it was a good idea to give Dorie the best version of himself, for if she didn't understand he and Matthew's situations, she wouldn't expect him to do his usual cowering.

"Are you alright?" he asked amiably, shooting a small smile discreetly in Dorie's direction.

((I’m back!!! Sorry for taking so long life’s just been difficult recently but I’ll try to be more regular with my replies!))

Matthew frowned and clenched his fists tightly as he crossed his arms. He knew he shouldn’t have expected Dorie to keep it a secret when Thomas had offered so much room for doubt. It wasn’t even her he was mad at, it was Thomas and even the Corps mentality. Now that Thomas knew Dorie was being trained by Matthew, he would insist on her being inducted into the Corps properly. If Matthew refused, no doubt the troublesome thorn in his side would inform the higher ups of Dorie and Matthew’s lessons. If he accepted... Dorie would loose her innocence and purity just as quickly and suddenly as his own true sister had lost her life. But there was nothing he could do about it. Not with both of them in the room. He would wait till Thomas left and first handle Dorie, answering all her questions and such, and then deal with Thomas. He’d have to have the Ravenclaw boy’s letters intercepted regularly to ensure they didn’t have information about him. It would be troublesome but well worth it if it meant keeping Dorie safe just awhile longer.
