What book was so riveting that you missed your stop, forgot to turn the oven off, or otherwise completely lost track of time?

The other time I bought the novel The Fault In Our Stars by John Green and I was super eager and excited to start on it (as I heard lots of good reviews about it). So I thought maybe I'd read a chapter or 2 for the day and complete my assignments then but I was so intrigued by the characters and to what happens next so I thought '...just a couple more pages and I'll stop...' but the next thing I realized it was night time already and I actually spend the whole of my Sunday reading to The Fault In Our Stars. I failed to remember I've got assignments to be completed.. I was completely enthralled by the book.

Funny, I always get absorbed like that when I read! Since the fifth grade, I remember my family would just leave on outings, and leave me home alone. Last few books however, have been: like water for chocolate, the other Boleyn girl, the kite runner, and bridges of Madison county.
All these books that people got so enthralled by. I'd love it if some of you would start a discussion on some of them.
It's been a while for me"Andromeda Strain" by Michael Crichton. I picked it up one evening and didn't put it down until I reached the end the following morning.
"Shogun" by James Clavell. I picked it up on a Friday evening and hardly slept or ate until I had finished it Sunday evening.
This has happened to me more times than I can count, but the latest ones:Game of Thrones George RR Martin
Night Circus
Far From the Tree Andrew Solomon
Other ones:
Time Traveler's Wife
Far Pavillions
Anything by Sharon Kay Penman
'What Your Teacher Didn't Tell You' was a book that had a profound effect on me and was hard to put down. It was history articulated in a different light, one that was void of any augmentation, the hard truth! It revealed Malaysia as once being a truly diverse and pluralistic country. The author Dr. Farish Ahmad Noor through his words provided me with a sneak peak to the progressive, and brilliant mind that makes this book a gem amongst Malaysia's corpus of literature.
It has been a blast to read through the comments! I've actually forgotten my kids at recess because I could not put down The Other Boleyn Girl! But more recently, I nearly missed my subway stop because of Gone Girl. Holy moly that book is page turner! I'm nearly done and mourning its end already. :) There are so many others...Many of you have named books that I have not read, so I am excited to add them to my reading list!

Vanissa, I had the exact same experience with Pride and Prejudice! It remains one of my absolute favorite books!
There are several books that make me forget my surroundings but one that I clearly remember as having an impact on me and others around me was "The Agony and Ecstasy" by Irving Stone. I love his description on the life of Michelangelo.
