Stephanie I think that this is a great collection of short stories, as long as I remember while I'm reading that that is what they are. I get caught up in each one and at the end I find myself wondering where the rest of the book is. They are all so random and end so abruptly. Carver does a good job of portraying specific life experiences one might have. The stories are written so well that they flow smoothly as you read and are difficult to put down. All in all, I think all of his stories make up a good book.

Alexandra Biegalski I agree. However, I also found his stories to have a strong theme of isolation. I think that he focuses on the hardships and dark parts of life. I also found myself longing to know the ending to some of his stories. I believe that they end abruptly to keep the reader captivated and engaged in reading.

Clavalley3 Upon hearing that Carver drew from his own life experiences I began to question what his life must have been like to have written such depressing stories. I also began to question what life was like during that time. The 50's and 60's were considered to be America's golden age; however, I now wonder what the moral of society was really like behind closed doors during that era.
