Kayla. Oedipus Rex is a Greek tragedy where Oedipus, King of Thebes, basically wants to overcome the plague that has befallen his kingdom. He goes to the Oracle who tells him that he can only do that if a man called Laius, who was killed, be brought to justice. There is also some prophecy that he has intimate relationship with his nearest of kin and he has committed patricide. He tries to defy that but by the end we learn that Oedipus had killed a man on the road on his way to Thebes (Laius) and married his widowed wife (his mother and now wife). That woman, Jocasta, hangs herself out of shame and Oedipus stabs his eyes with her brooches. It's all pretty gross and scarring but famous and "inspirational", they say.
