"That's alright," Kendra said, smiling. "I know it's hard to have a friend suffering." Her smile faltered briefly as her thoughts turned to Skyler.
"Now that is from personal experience", he commented, looking at her. "Is there anything I can do?" he asked, itching to help.
Kendra attempted a smile. "Oh, you don't have to, sweets," she said, blushing a little. "I wouldn't want to trouble you."
"It's no trouble at all, if there's anything I can do", he said, smiling. If he was able to help her, then maybe his mum wouldn't get too mad at him, so really he was helping her for sort of selfish reasons, but he wasn't going to tell her that.
Kendra smirked a little as something occurred to her. "I take it you want something in return probably?" she said, teasing.
Zac just shook his head. "No, the chance to help you would be enough", he answered hopefully. He really didn't want his mum to come down and yell at him again.
Kendra cocked her head to the side, considering him with mildly amused curiosity. Most of the guys she was drawn to were either too good or too bad for her. Few ever truly wanted to help without some thought of what they wanted in return. "Thanks, sweets," she said. "The problem is I am not sure how to help or even if I can anymore."
Zac looked down disappointedly, but then shook it off quickly. "Oh, I'm sorry. That must be hard for you" he said, giving her a sympathetic smile.
Kendra offered him a small smile back. "Skyler seemed like she was improving," she said, "but the condition is as much mental as physical. All I can really do is bring her food I think she might like and try to keep her away from anything that might her set her off."
Zac nodded. "I know what you mean", he told her, remembering his friend. "A friend of mine went through something like that, though very mild, before I left", he explained.
"Mild?" Kendra said, raising her eyebrows. "Honey, this is not something that is mild to the people that have to go through it. People like to think that these problems are minor and will pass with time or age, but the truth is some people never do get through it." Her face grew slightly flushed from the growing passion with each word. "For some people, the only way out is ending their lives." She fell silent and looked down briefly. "Sorry for my rambling," she apologized, a little embarrassed. "It's just... We all struggle so hard to survive with all the monsters that want to make us their meals or the godly relatives that turn out to only see us as inconveniences or pawns... And it's a shame to know that there are those of us that can survive all of it and just can't fight what they feel."
Zac didn't know what to say. "I-I'm sorry for saying anything", he apologised, still slightly in shock. "It's obvious you feel passionately about this", he added.
"It's okay. I care passionately about any person that is injured or anything other than less than well," Kendra said. "I guess it's a healer thing." She studied him with a half smile.
Zac nodded. "No, no, I understand completely", he told her, smiling. "I'm kind of like that I guess. If someone asks for help, I kind of just feel the need to help them. I can't really say no", he admitted.
"Oh, so you are one of those types..." Kendra said, smirking. "The annoyingly sweet guy that is too good to date." Her dark eyes twinkled playfully.
Zac opened his mouth to say something, but then shut it, not wanting to say the wrong thing. "I'm not sure if that was a compliment, or not", he said, raising an eyebrow at her.
Kendra sighed a little and rolled her eyes. "I'm messing with you! Doesn't anyone tease you once in a while?" she said, swiping at his arm half playfully.
"I did!" Zac exclaimed, a smile on his face. "No", he then said, before realizing it was kind of out of context. "I mean, you asked before if anyone ever teased me. No. People don't really talk to me long enough, usually", he admitted, the smiled falling slowly off his face.
Kendra rested a hand on his arm. "That's too bad, honey people don't talk to you very long," she said, smiling sympathetically. A mischievous twinkle returned to her gaze. "Because teasing you is so entertaining."
Zac laughed. "Gee, thanks", he said sarcastically, smiling at her. He could tell she was teasing now. "I'm glad teasing me is so entertaining for you", he then added, sarcastically again.
Kendra laughed, amused by his sarcasm. "It has to be for someone," Kendra replied, grinning. "Or else there is no point in teasing you."
Zac shrugged. "I suppose so", he said begrudgingly. He laughed, finding the whole situation pretty funny.
Kendra smiled and picked up a strawberry, which she chewed on. "So what do you want do you want to do when you grow up, sweets?" she said.
((Sorry, I didn't see this ahah))
Zac thought, then answered. "I honestly don't know. But I want to help people, in whatever way I can", he told her, smiling slightly.
Zac thought, then answered. "I honestly don't know. But I want to help people, in whatever way I can", he told her, smiling slightly.
"Oh, so would you help me with something?" Kendra asked with a mischievous smile. She placed her guitar down beside her.
Zac looked at her suspiciously. "My answer would depend on what you need help with", he responded.
Her smile fell from her face when she noticed the way he looked at her. "Nevermind then," she said, picking up her guitar again. "I don't need you to do anything. I can take of things on my own." She bent over her guitar, trying to give herself a reason to look away from him.
Zac put a hand on her arm, and gave her a slightly worried look. "Hey, I didn't mean that. What do you need help with?" he asked.
"It's nothing," Kendra said, looking up at him. She offered him a smile and a shake of her head. "I just thought maybe..." She searched his face with uncertainty.
Zac looked at her, his blue eyes full of concern. "What is it?" he asked, taking her hand in his.
Kendra blushed faintly when he took her hand and laughed to cover up her nervousness. Why the hell did he have to be so sweet? "Are you any good at soccer?" she asked. In spite of herself, she lightly bit her bottom lip- something she rarely ever did. "Maybe we could hang out on the soccer field some time?" she asked.
Zac grinned widely, and nodded. "That, I would love to help with", he said, squeezing her hand slightly.
Kendra grinned back at him. "Great," she said. Her dark gaze briefly fell on his hand again. Slowly, she stroked the back of his hand with her thumb.
Kendra flushed a deep red. Well, if her blushes were not obvious before because of her dark complexion, this one certainly was. Her dark eyebrows rose and her dark eyes fell to the green earth around them.
((Oh sorry I must have missed this one...))
"I-I'm sorry, that was probably way too upfront", he apologized, smiling slightly at her reaction.
"I-I'm sorry, that was probably way too upfront", he apologized, smiling slightly at her reaction.
((That's okay.))
"Probably," Kendra said, regaining a little bit of her composure. Shyly, she snuck in a glance up at him. "You are beautiful too," she said, smiling a little.
"Probably," Kendra said, regaining a little bit of her composure. Shyly, she snuck in a glance up at him. "You are beautiful too," she said, smiling a little.
Kendra smiled and blushed slightly. "So..." She slowly met his gaze. "How about we skip the slow formalities of you eventually asking me out and we can just go now?" she blurted out. She could not possibly have just said that. Despite her burning cheeks, she kept her gaze on him, trying to keep her cool.
Zac's eyes widened, slightly taken aback. But then he laughed, nodding. "Okay, sure", he said, through his laughter.
Kendra smiled, still blushing, and stood up. She bended over to pick up her guitar and basket of strawberries before offering her hand to help Zac to his feet. "So where do you like to walk nowhere in particular in camp?" she asked.
Zac took her hand graciously, getting up from the grass. He laughed slightly at her comment. "Well, you suggested some soccer earlier", he reminded her.
"Yeah, well, I didn't exactly mean that to be for a date," Kendra said, laughing. "I thought maybe more of just hanging out and leading up to asking you out." She looked down again, blushing and smiling. "Well, before you said I was beautiful and before I opened my big mouth."
Kendra pursed her lips, but the smile remained. "So, sweets, I don't suppose you are carrying a soccer ball and a picnic blanket that you can whip out?" she asked, looking up at him again.
