Blogging: To self-host or not??

Weebly is pretty good for blogs and websites, even the free version. I've thought about self-hosting, but I'm waiting until I'm getting enough money from my blogging/books that I can justify spending the money on it.
I chose free because I didn't have the money to spend on paid hosting, and at the time didn't need any extra benefits that would come with paying for the service. With Weebly, if you upgrade your account you get more options for your site.
*shrugs* I hope that helped somewhat. Sorry I couldn't give you more info. :/

I enjoy having my blog on my own webspace, all of my material are in the same space (though it sucks when the server goes down for whatever reason--not that it happens often) and I don't know, it feels more organised to me compared to having my blog on a hosted blog service. There's that flexibility of knowing what's going on with my site via my cpanel and databases and stuff.
I'm currently using American Princess Web Solutions. The services provided are really good IMO, and easy to reach if you have a question or if there's a problem. I'm not sure how the company's fees compare to other hosts but I find the package prices to be fairly reasonable for the amount of "stuff" you get for it (the homepage lays it out quite nicely).
I hope that helps! Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about self-hosting or whatnot :)

I did find this, which I found pretty helpful:

A lot of the people I talked to about it use Hostgator.
I've got the most minimal coding skills, so more advanced settings are not ideal for me, aside from the fact that I intend to use a blog more as a repository than a "platform". I'm too chicken to start anything until I feel I'm reasonably informed about it, so chances are I may never get started, lol.

Hostgator had a serious bad rep when I checked into them. Everyone was saying "Bluehost."
But I checked Bluehost and found out it was a Mormon owned site with morality clauses in its TOS. Since I read and review erotica as well as Fantasy I just decided to go with GoDaddy.

If your adult blog currently has advertisements which are adult in nature, you should remove them as soon as possible as to avoid any potential Terms of Service violation and/or content removals.

Based on their commercials, I'll bet GoDaddy won't have any problems with erotica reviews. =p
As for the Blogger thing, that's really surprising and unfortunate. There's a lot of things to dislike about Blogger, they're just adding to the list.

Are you serious? I don't have adult content on my blog or anything, but that email makes me upset. I just joined blogger a few weeks ago. I wonder why the sudden change.

I read this and decided not to take the chance:
Hostgator Sucks: Mindless Account Suspension after being a Loyal Customer for a Year
I looked at a lot of other hosts that I liked better than GoDaddy but they had the cheapest prices I could find with the least concerning TOS. I was able to get 3 years + private + domain name for $130 which (I've been told) is excellent.

A lot of people in my erotica group got that email. But it could be a scam.
Other people said its purely based on ad content and not blog content. But that's just one step to me.
Do you self-host or do you use the site hosted blog service and why?
If you do self-host, what encouraged you to make that move? Do you enjoy it, yes or no? If you don't mind telling, how much do you pay - per year - to host and maintain your domain name? If you had the option, would you still self-host? What hosting service do you use?
If you do not self-host, are you thinking about self-hosting?
