Me too! I'm about 100 pages into the first fever book......... LOVIN Mac and her snappy narration.

MC (mcecilia) | 130 comments Hm, I'm only in a couple of chapters and I don't like Mac much as yet, but I try to keep an open mind... (Is she obsessed with her own looks, or what? Get on with it!)

message 53: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm finding it refreshing after reading a few female leads recently who seem (conveniently) unaware of their own attractiveness....

message 54: by MC (new)

MC (mcecilia) | 130 comments Agreed; low self-esteem in a heroine IS pretty annoying! But does Mac have to tell us about every twirl of her blonde pony tail and the details of her wardrobe? *grumbles* I'll give it a rest and see if she shows other, redeeming qualities. :-)

Rebekah Decker (bekahbuttons) | 101 comments Mod
Ahhh so excited for you guys.. MC it's okay to totally be annoyed by Mac... I mean is anyone REALLY that perfect? (apparently she is.. and just wait.. her life gets better because OMG JZB)

anyway... book #1 and #2 can be pretty ridiculous but she gets better. SO GOOD

Jenny | 46 comments True story: yesterday I was gathering dirty laundry and picked up a washcloth in the bathtub and found the dead body of a very large daddy long legs that I had killed in the shower the day before. I thought, "Ha! No one's going to miss you, you feckin' Fae!" as I rinsed him down the drain.

That's normal, right?

I always knew there was a perfectly rational reason for hating spiders. Ha! :)

Ok- so finished the first book. Really enjoyed it. The characters are enigmatic, the story interesting and the narration snappy. Was slightly disturbed by the death by sex fae scenes.........

message 59: by MC (new)

MC (mcecilia) | 130 comments Yes, I found those sex-by-Fae scenes disturbing, too.
Finished the first book yesterday afternoon, but if the weather hadn't been so crappy I'd have felt fooled out of a nice summer afternoon.
I think the writing is okay, but not exceptional, I find Mac hard to like and Barrons - so far - is about as sexy as a brick wall. The fact that Mac TELLS me that he gives her a sexy vibe is not enough to make me feel it.
I'll grit my teeth and keep going, though, since people tell me books 1 and 2 aren't as great as the later ones. Oh, Barrons - where art thy magic?

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok- so I'm almost halfway through book 2 and I'm getting pretty annoyed about how little we know Barrons. It SHOCKS me that Mac has like zero curiosity about what he does, where he goes, how he got his cash, what he IS (clearly its more than human or even a sigh seer), what the go is with how he seems to charm people etc. Lets be honest- the best scenes have him in them......

message 62: by [deleted user] (new)

Book 2 down- and I'm satisfied with the (tiny) bit of info we got on Barrons. AND what an ending!! I'm actually really enjoying this series- thanks BOOZY book club and TN gals!

Jenny | 46 comments I finished Iced yesterday. These books are addictive, fun, frustrating! I didn't care for Barron's in the first few books, but now I want more of his story.

YAY! See, it's one of those that you HAVE to get through the end of Book 2 to get really hooked. But you can hang up your hopes about getting answers about Barrons. That ain't never gonna happen.

Rebekah Decker (bekahbuttons) | 101 comments Mod
KEEP GOING GUYS. THEN REPORT BACK SO WE CAN SAY "I TOLD YOU SO"

message 66: by [deleted user] (new)

Well- I'm halfway through the third book- just read the Barrons/V'lane face off scene which was so reminiscent of a certain tent scene from a certain other series that it MADE MY DAY!!!!'

Lynette | 20 comments Talk about peer-group pressure: ok, I've started it.
I've no idea how far I am through Book 1 'cause I got the series package for Kindle which tells me I've got another 30-odd hours to go.

So far Mac is annoying the hell out of me: I don't care what colour nail polish she's wearing – we know it's gonna be pink; I get it, there's lots of stuff to be revealed – it's kind of the point of reading a book. I figure I like a little more subtlety in my writing, I can figure stuff out you know.

I shall report in...

I'm right there with you! Book one had me superannoyed, but now I'm starting book 2, a victim of group pressure - at my age!! Mom would frown on me... If this investment was not worth my while, I demand complimentary cocktails from everyone who told me I'd like it!!

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

Book 3 down........ CRICKEY!!! That was one ending......... And. I'll admit. Barrons hasn't left my mind for very long at all over the past few days.

So far, my husband is winning over Barrons by a long shot...he's so much more...dynamic. (smiles, walks, talks, kisses) ;) Let's see when I get to book 3 if the power balance has changed.

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

First 7 chapters of books 4............... FAAAAAAAAARRRRR OUUUUUUUUUT!

message 72: by [deleted user] (new)

I may in fact NEVER SLEEP UNTIL THESE BOOKS ARE FINISHED!!!!!! Arrerrgggggghhhhhhh! Author is the master of the slow info release!

Jenny | 46 comments Christine wrote: "First 7 chapters of books 4............... FAAAAAAAAARRRRR OUUUUUUUUUT!"

Wait until you get to the last chapter of book 4. Seriously. Have book 5 on hand and be grateful we don't have to wait for book 5 to be published.

message 74: by MC (new)

MC (mcecilia) | 130 comments *pouts* Couldn't I just skip to book 4? I mean she spends the first chapter of every book recapitulating everything of importance that's happened before, and yet it only takes like five paragraphs. (Okay, maybe I am feeling a bit bitchy, sorry.)

Starting book 3 now. It's slightly improving: at least Mac is showing some twitches of a character arch, but Barrons is as yet irritatingly the same, apart from that brief moment at the end of book 2 when he did some shirt-ripping. Didn't like the torture bits, they seemed unnecessary - and unconvincing to boot.
Plowing ahead ...

Rebekah Decker (bekahbuttons) | 101 comments Mod
Seriously.. HAVE BOOK FIVE ON HAND. And book four too if i'm giving out advice!

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

One word. A beautiful one. Kindle.

message 77: by [deleted user] (new)

Forgive me boozy book club for I have sinned....... Halfway through book 4 I caved and read the 'Jericho Barrens' page on wiki........... The SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW release of info was DOING MY HEAD IN!!!! There- I've confessed....... Now to continue reading without the horrid frustration hanging over my head!

YEAH I KNOW .!!!!!! Did you like overall? love you some barrons?

message 82: by [deleted user] (new)

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
I feel quite conflicted loving Barrons..... in short- yep- loved him. But I really struggle with myself to love a character who unashamedly killed kids, raped and violently murdered...... EVEN if there was intense grief behind the actions. And speaking of Barrons behind things....... WHOA- those intimate scenes really were descriptive.......

It seems there are 2 more novels coming as a trilogy with Iced (Dani O'Malley #1), and two more that will continue the Fever series... which, in turn, means more JZB :-)

message 84: by [deleted user] (new)

Question...... Is the alpha alternative scene where Barrons 'visits' mac at her hotel room in the very beginning?

message 85: by [deleted user] (new)

P.s- I couldn't really picture Barrons while reading him- other than fine fine fine.... Took to tumblr and Jason Momoa IS BARRONS!! Swoooooooooooooooon*

yes. it's 1.99 and comes with audio that will make you laugh. but it's 1.99 and worth it :)

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

I just read it on tumblr........ Whoops! Also- What do you think of my casting choice??? (I may or may not have been watching endless you tube interviews with said actor ever since......)

message 88: by Cara (new)

Cara | 17 comments I have to admit, I didn't really like the series until book 4. Then...Holy Dreamfever! JZB, personal trainer! I haven't read Iced yet. Dani's dialogue really annoyed me in the Fever books, so I don't know if I can handle a whole book of her.

I feel the same way about Dani. I found her unbelievably annoying and immature. She annoyed me more than even early Mac did. I have Iced, but I'm not sure if I'll read it.

Jenny | 46 comments Dani is more Dani in Iced, but you get to learn more about her background. And in comparison to pink-loving, prettiest-girl-in-the-room Mac, Dani is refreshing. I like these books because the story sucks me in, but I can skim a lot of the book. I don't have to hang on to every written word to enjoy the story. The fact that she is 14 made me nervous because it's definitely not a YA book.

Kathryn | 62 comments I'm about 100 pages in to Darkfever so I skipped all the above comments but does Mac totally annoy anyone else? Just me? Does she get better? Do we just not care because of this mythical Barrons? (He's shown up, he's just not worship worthy at this point.) I have full faith in TN so I'm sticking with the book but I just want to eye roll so much at Mac!

I hear ya, I finished the Fever series weeks ago and I'm
Still a little annoyed by Mac. The story/Barrons... Or maybe it was just Bekah saying it was the bomb kept me hanging on, and it was worth it. Annoying lead female and all.

message 93: by Dany (new)

Dany (danyspike) Oh yes, Mac is annoying every step of the way. I hated reading her and I also hated reading Dani. I don't know what that says about the author...or about me :)

Mac is annoying times a million. Especially in the first book, but some of what makes her annoying doesn't really go away, it just changes forms as the books progress. She DOES get better.

Jenny | 46 comments She does mature as the books go on, so she's less annoying. Or am I being too generous?

message 96: by [deleted user] (new)

I actually liked Mac- warts and all. Yes, she is arrogant, yes she has stupid thoughts- but I found her a refreshing heroine. I've read a number of series lately with heroines with zero self esteem and that is annoying too!

Mac is SUPER ANNOYING in book 1. If I hadn't bought the whole package as an e-book I would have given up there and then. *sigh* But she gets better with time, even if I'm in the middle of book 3 and she's still not my fav heroine. But she loses some of the smug airhead vibes and retains the guts. (Still no swoons for Barrons, I may add...I'm still waiting for the magic to show.)

For the first couple of books I just wanted the Fae to get Mac and her stupid pink nail polish – like MC I bought the series as a package and I never not finish a book. I never got round to liking her or stopped hitting my head on the wall at some of her actions but yeah, she grew on me. Like a fungus.

And yes MC, Barrons does become more swoony – though not someone I'd want in real life. I'm big on information
