Maartje (whatmaartjeread) I just bought the Boxall's book, and the spreadsheet. After going through the whole spreadsheet, I came to the conclusion that I only read 18 of the books so far. I guess I haven't read many of the classics! I always wanted to, but I never knew where to start, so the list should come in handy.

How many books had you read when you first started/heard of the list?

I do have to say that I am glad "Eline Vere" is on the list. I had to read that in school when I was 14, and I am glad that at least now it served a purpose (another "r" in the spreadsheet). God that was awful to get through at that age!

Elizabeth (Alaska) I don't recall. About 75 I think, a lot of which I had read 30-40 years ago. I had been reading other classics that somehow didn't make the list. But I'm very happy to have "met" many new authors who are on the list.

About 75 I'd say. I'm currently at ca. 125.

Doug Bartlett (inspireandshine) 48, some of them as a result of aiming to read the Booker award winners.

Maggie (maggielmills) I just started the challenge. I have read 43 prior to starting the list.

Ian | 143 comments I first came across the 2006 book at my brother's. I considered myself to be reasonably well-read and confidently guessed I had got about 200 in the bag already. I was disgusted to find I was only on about 45. I was determined to bump that up to 100 pretty quick and I haven't stopped finding wonderful things to read yet. Currently on 289 from the 2006 list with about another 20 from the later introductions.

Riley I've read 44, I'm 24 and just discovered this list today! Let's see where it goes from here.

I had read between 80-85 when I first saw the list in 2009. Now at 297.

Started the list last night, coming into it I've already read 39 books. Only 962 to go, lol.

Nicola | 770 comments About 90 when I checked in September. I'm now up to 142 so I've made good progress. I've re-read several books which I know I have read before but couldn't remember much about. Having a goal definitely helps, my reading has dramatically increased.

message 20: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin | 205 comments I started the list purposefully and consciously around 2011, and was at the time at about 160 titles. I've just about doubled the number since then.
