I set myself a goal last year to read 75 books.
I read 79.
This year I set another goal of 75 books.
When I first started getting back into reading I'd maybe only read about 30 books a year. So, I double that now.

Last year I started out with my goal at 40. I was trying to get through books fast so I would hit the goal. I ended up reading over 60 books last year. This year I didn't set any goals because I think the pressure I put on myself took away from the enjoyment of reading. I MAY set a goal again for next year but it will be lower, maybe around 30 books.

Do you join the goal group on here on Goodreads. It's where you set a goal at the beginning of the year and then they keep track for you if you are on target, behind, etc.?

Each year they start another one at the beginning. Like it will be 2014 Reading Challenge.

I am part if that group, I just didn't set up a thread for this year with a specific number of books I want to read. Maybe next year I will.

@Jennifer: Just curious, does the number include comics/manga?

What I am trying to do is get an average of how many books I read of books such as graphic novels and mangas compared to other types of books. Then I was hoping to see, out of all these, what my favorites of the year was to see what this years winning genre, and age level was for me.
It's like I said, I am only doing this for fun because I think the results will be interesting. I don't really have any interest in challenging myself to read more in a year or read certain types of books because then it becomes work.

I tried setting a goal of 25 first. I think I'll need to increase it soon though.

Oh my! I don't think I'll ever get to 250 books a yr.
I started out maybe reading about 30 to 35. I have increased it to around 75 books a yr. But, that's been over the last 3 yrs. So, it may take me awhile to ever get to that many books in a year or ever.

I don't count anything other than books. I think that's what that site is for. I don't count magazines, or any other type of stuff other than books.
