Karin | 629 comments I just finished Five-Carat Soul by James McBride . I then started, but didn't care for Mrs. Wiggins by Mary Monroe after looking at the beautiful cover for several weeks since I brought it home from the library. Just not my style of novel, I guess.

It’s on my list for May too, however, I finished all my books for April, so I’m starting a little early. 😊. J California Cooper is one of my favorite authors, and I’ve heard that this book is really good.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I will have to look into The Wake of the Wind. I had never heard of this book. However, I have always loved J. California Cooper.

Sarah-Hope | 22 comments Just blown away by Black Cloud RisingBlack Cloud Rising. This novel is set in the south immediately after the Civil War and narrated by a Black soldier who is a non-com in the "colored" troops that are now part of the Union's occupying forces. It's complicated in the very best of ways.
