Darryl Barney (darrylbarney) Dosha, congratulations on making it to the end! this is my second time picking it up and i am still struggling to get very far. Smith uses many words—and they come together very beautifully. the characters so far seem complex and fully realized. with that said, it still reads a little “dry.” i don’t know. i am going to hang in there because i try not to leave books unread after starting.

B. P. Rinehart (ken_mot) | 34 comments I just finished reading an old volume of poetry called Color by Countee Cullen. It is an interesting look at a poet who was a one-time rival and peer of Langston Hughes. I was familiar with at least two of Cullen's poems before reading this book. I stumbled upon a vintage, well-preserved copy of this book at my bookstore and got it and another volume of Cullen's poetry relatively cheap. I guess I read this book just out of fascination that a vintage work by an African-American writer even survived so long, so well intact.

Here is my full review of it: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Jay Rosselle | 1 comments I'm totally consumed by my current read, The Edge of Freedom by Dana Vacca.

I finished Vacca's previous book, Freedom Calling and thoroughly enjoyed it. And The Edge of Freedom has definitely hooked me completely! The history of the US Civil War era is accurate (I'm a Civil War buff!) It's about an escaped slave, but the story is not the usual fare, and is as exciting as it is spiritual and inspirational!

Vivid characters that you can laugh, love and cry with!

I give a thumbs up both books.
