Carmaleeta Newchurch Just finished Jonah's Gourd Vine. Now I am trying to decide what I should read next - Memoir about Dorothy Height, The Street by Ann Petry, or Lenny Gray by Earl Sewell. I'll probably end up reading all three.

Carol (carolfromnc) | 4597 comments I am reading a Korean graphic novel, The Color of Water. It is the story of the author’s mother, starting at age 15 or so and the illustrations are beautiful.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I read a different book by James McBride called the color of water. It was a wonderful read.

I’ve looked at that one for awhile, Dosha. You reminded me I should move it up my TBR.

BernieMck | 1800 comments Don't waste your time rereading the prologue. Although I was warned ahead of time, I still reread it. It did not help. It's one of those books where the understanding comes later. So far, I find the book to be, quite interesting

I'm looking to start another series about a black character or written by a black author. Any suggestions?

I've read Alex Cross, Easy Rawlins, and the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments Beverly Jenkins is a black author who does a wonderful job with historical and contemporary romance series.

I have not! I'm gonna check it out.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I haven’t finished the blessings series but I’ve read all that are mentioned above. Sleeping with strangers IS a good series, and I got tired of EJD too. If you want to laugh, Carl Weber has some crazy series too I think the Preachers wife is the last book in a Weber series.
