Glad you are enjoying. I am so anxious to read this book as I have read the author's short stories before and this book sounds right up my alley.
I have been playing musical books with each books that I will read over this Labor Day weekend every time I read a post about another great book.

I read The Healing several years ago and had great discussions with reading buddies.
While there were several things I liked about this book - there were two things that stood out in my mind that I thought the author did a good job with.
One was the subject of slave healers - the importance to the slaves and the masters. I had often read about them in the other books but the author went into depth about their importance.
The other was that the author did a good job of showing that “benign” slave masters were really no different than “cruel” slave masters as all they wanted to do was maximize their profits.

I too read Queen Sugar before I started to watch the tv series (which I am enjoying). The tv series does not necessarily follow the book - it takes the essence of the storyline but many differences.

message 999: by Trudy (new)

Trudy (goodreadscomtrudyspages) Hi Dosha , this book has taken me on such a journey. I started reading, then I abandoned it because I couldn't bare it , then I picked it up again. I'm so glad I did! It can be very painful, but at 90%, so worth it! As far as your I interactions , I think you'll be as okay as you probably are at this point, anyway.
So, yes, I highly recommend it.
