Kindred is wonderful. I mean, the story is difficult but the writing, plot, Dana? Those are wonderful.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments No Brina, that must be a different Kindred. Lol. This is about a black woman linked to a white master while time traveling. When not in slavery life is good. Tight book.

message 854: by Brina (new)

Brina Did Octavia Butler write anything else? I'm sure I've read her before.

message 859: by Brina (new)

Brina Dosha I read fast and I'm on vacation and I have nothing else to do. Also finished Harlan. Was good and fast reading. Now I want something different to read next.

message 860: by Carmaleeta (new)

Carmaleeta Newchurch Just finished 'This Bitter Earth' by Bernice McFadden. This is the sequel to 'Sugar'. A fantastic read. Now I am reading 'Brown Girl, Brownstones' by Paule Marshall.

I just finished reading The Giver which was a great read and now I am reading Animal Farm. Throughout these few years I am finding myself getting really into dystopia/utopia novels. It's nice to be back in the reading habbit. I was in a bit of a book funk for a while.

message 863: by Brina (new)

Brina I am starting Serena by Ron Rash. It is supposed to be a modern take on Macbeth and was made into a movie.

message 864: by Suzette (new)

Suzette Harrison Just finished Margaret Johnson Hodge's "A Journey to Here." It reminded me how much I love this author and made me want to revisit her offerings. Highly recommended!

Brina Maya, I'm glad you liked Homegoing. I'm curious- what is August's group read? It isn't listed and I wanted to reserve from the library.
Today I started a tome- Lonesome Dove.

I am currently reading Sophie's World by Jostein Gaarder. It's philosophical and a great read so far. I read it in high school and hated it lol. Now it's excellent.
