Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments I am grateful to go back. No longer am I stuck here, in a place of doubt.
No longer am I inflicted with sensing shadows. Ashes to ashes. Dust to dust. All my sorrows are about to melt away. In this inferno, nothing will be left behind me but an empty shell. I fly into the brilliance. I am ablaze. I am in bliss. For where I am going I shall be reborn.

Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments What a great gift I got tonight, a second review of Twisted (audiobook) titled: “Enjoy the darker twist, but without the gore."

Would you listen to Twisted again? Why?
Yes. It was thought provoking and at times achingly beautiful.

What other book might you compare Twisted to and why?
Perhaps to some of HP Lovecraft's light works, or Washington Irving's folk tales. Poznansky's works feature some little twist that turns the tale just slightly sideways, giving the reader a new way of looking at it. Lovecraft and Irving also do the same in many of their works.

Have you listened to any of Heather Jane Hogan’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This was my first time enjoying Heather Hogan's narration.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Uvi Poznansky takes the reader through the odd, the dark, the twisted with intelligence and artful form.

Any additional comments?
I am hard put to say which was my favorite. I Am What I Am drew me in right away with the mystery of who this dead woman was. Not being familiar with Christian tales, I nevertheless enjoyed the rock and hard place Job’s wife found herself between. She did a lot of sighing, but if I were her, I would probably do so too….or cuss. I, Woman was sensual and full of creativity, just as I imagine sculpting with clay would be. Even though this was short, the main character grew over the space of the tale, at first thinking little of her clay companion, then coming to appreciate any communication with him, and finally, afraid of what lay before her, missing his constant presence. Perhaps this was my favorite.

The Hollow went by a little too quickly for me, leaving a rather ghostly impression on me. Perhaps it was meant to do so as the woman was in free fall. The book ended with an unlooked for surprise in the last story, The One Who Never Leaves. It is all told from a cat’s perspective, tamed, trapped in domesticity. Being the servant to several cats, I completely connected with this story, recognizing that predatory glint in my cat’s eyes, as captured by the disgruntled feline of this story.

In short, this is an excellent collection of short tales. Each was unique, standing on it’s own merits. I also loved that each was told through female eyes, allowing one more layer of connection.

The Narration: Heather Jane Hogan provided clear, distinct voices, and even went extra lengths to give Satan in the first tale an unearthly tone. My only minor criticism was that the pacing was slow; however this may have been by request of the author.

Like a unique tapestry of words, Twisted by Uvi Poznansky invites the reader to fall into each one of the four stories and come back out with their own interpretation of her words. A little on the dark side, sometimes with touches of humor, each tale is told in the first person, giving life to the character through the talent of Ms. Poznansky. I Am What I Am is the struggle of a woman dealing with the devil . The Hollow is a short tale of reality versus what is perceived. Next is I,Woman, followed by The One Who never Leaves, that is told from the view of a cat.

Dark, intense, entertaining, thought-provoking and emotional, these short stories each hold their own brand of magnetisim that lasts long after the last word is read. Ms. Poznansky has given the reader a wealth of depth in few words.

Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments "Four women, four fates, one mystical tapestry": a lovely new review for the audiobook edition of Twisted:

Overall ★★★★★
Performance ★★★★★

"Four women, four fates, one mystical tapestry"
Where does Twisted rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Among the audiobooks I've heard so far, Twisted ranks in my top twenty percent, primarily because of the melding of narrator and story, but also because I love Poznansky's forays into the mythos of the Old Testament.

What other book might you compare Twisted to and why?
I can compare Twisted only to Uvi Povnasky's other works about Biblical characters and times. The author is creating her own canon, bit by careful bit. I'd call this book magical realism, but it isn't quite that because the characters are not of this time: it's a passionate recasting of Biblical legend for womens' perspectives, with a helping of honesty thrown in for good measure. These four stories feature female protagonists so real you want to touch them, so bold that their unapologetic and unforgettable nature will haunt you long after the narrator finishes telling you each tale.

What does Heather Jane Hogan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Heather Jane Hogan brings a finely wrought integrity to her readings, disappearing into each character in turn. Having these stories read to you allows the narrator to characterize each story differently; and different these feminine perspectives are, one form the other. Hogan breathes voice into each tale without ever overplaying her hand.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If I could, I'd have listened to each of the four stories straight through.

Any additional comments?
The narrated story "I Am What I Am" alone is worth the price of this quartet of tales. As the character searches for her identity in a word of symbol, myth, and metaphor, so do you. Job's wife has something to say to all women of every age, and does, and narrator Hogan makes sure you hear the message. Accompanied and enhanced by three other tales, I, Woman...The Hollow...and The One Who Never Leaves, this quartet transports you into a way of apprehending life that is different from your own, so that you see all through a rarefied artistic sensibility. Bravo, author and narrator!

✿ What do you personally get out of writing, and do you have a mentor who helped you along the way?

Glenda A Bixler blogs about Books, Reviews, Authors, Publicity, Tips, short stories, essays...a little poetry, a cat story or two, thoughts on music, movies and products selections. I am thrilled to find her review of Twisted:

★★★★★ Full of Passion! I Loved it!, October 3, 2014
By Amazon Customer "Glenda" (Pennsylvania)

And his wife said to him, Do you still hold to your in
tegrity? Curse God and die! Job 2:9.... A face has been given to her by many over the thousands of years that the story has been told, but...what was her name? Don't take too long to try to remember, because she never was named! Job was certainly identified and even picked out by God to show that his faith was great! But what of his wife?

Uvi Poznansky has created a collection of her shorter stories, Twisted, that will provide readers with a tale of horror for the woman who told Job to curse God... Whether or not it has any element of possible truth for this unnamed woman, it certainly points readers in a direction toward which they have never gone... Did she love Job? Feared for his life? Or was she concerned about financial support if her husband were to die? Or, perhaps, she may have been jealous of his devotion to God rather than to her and his family... She forces each woman to consider--what would I have done???

The cover of this book is so very intriguing that I find that I must begin right here. In her book she has a separate section on how her art is intertwined with her writing. This cover, to me, is a perfect example... She shares how she created it and I found that this was just as important part of the book as was the stories themselves... Intriguing...

The story begins as we find the woman without a name in a cave, afraid, wondering what was to happen to her. Did she even remember what her name was? But then she hears a discussion, really an argument. It's about her! When it grows silent again, she begins to crawl slowly out of her hiding place... She crawls until she begins to see what appears to be familiar. It looks like where she had lived--Uz--and she remembers the people and places from her life at that time...

She could hear cries, some mournful, but even then, they, too, slipped away. She had not been mourned very long... Even Job had spent little time, spouting His usual words. Always about himself!...Readers will discover what happens as Job's wife roams through... Hell...

"The Hollow" comes next as a woman faces the death of her husband and lives in the nightmare of that loss.... Sometimes, I imagine, she even wants to accompany him--she feels so greatly. Even considering to go through a doorway, she imagines that there is no floor beyond the opening... and remembers how he died... She had tried to forget--the memories, their love, their life together. But that morning, she had found her diary. Opened... How had that happened? And Why?

"I, Woman" quickly tells you more about the story, when a sub-title is added-- As told by a has-been slab of clay! You know, one of my immediate reactions was that it was a perfect description for... ME Do we reach a point in life when we consider ourselves as a has-been. Certainly we do... but when, and how... I thought, was the issue, don't you think? Yes, it seems like my first inclination might be true...but then...the story, as predicted, becomes twisted...

The last piece, Dust, is more that a story and can only be appreciated by sharing at least one of the sculptures behind the words... or at least the first line...From dust you gather me

I move through Poznansky's words... Does she write of agape love, philia, or eros in portraying such beauty... I arrive at only one word to describe my feelings about her work. It is Passionate! And I find there is no other word than I can use to describe my response to what she has presented to us in Twisted.

This is a book that drains your emotions... There will be confusion, pain, dread and fear, but there is also warmth, understanding, contemplation, and so much love... Uvi has spoken to me in this book. It is the first book of hers I've had a chance to read. From this one, however, I feel I have known her, the total Uvi Poznansky. Many will know her online for the kind, gentle, thankful person we've learn to care for... But, this, this, has shared her heart with me--with her readers. Could we think of these things she has twisted for us to consider if Uvi had not first considered them herself?

It is obvious in her work that she wants to share with women, but, then, in I, Woman, she speaks to man like no other may have ever spoke... I am held captive, pondering over and over what she may have wanted her readers to find in her work... As opposed to what I have found there. I find it doesn't matter. Uvi has touched me. I am grateful...

Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments Am I dreaming? I stare at it in great awe.
“Ah!” says Satan, noting my expression with great interest. “You are a curious creature, woman.”
“No disrespect intended, sir,” I say, “but don’t play with me. If you know my name—which I am sure you do—you would do well to use it when you talk to me.”
“Oh, I would,” he teases me, “if you were to offer me at least a token of gratitude, if you know what I mean.”
I do. And it’s not that I am not tempted... Satan is a handsome fellow, even with fine-haired goat beard on his chin, which is something I could persuade him to shave off, in time...
“Here we are,” he presses on. “All alone, apparently, in a deserted library... Now, how badly do you want your name back, woman?”
In place of an answer, I gulp.
And he says, “I am given to caprice, you know. So I may, perhaps, be persuaded to give your name back to you...”
His words go roundabout, but his gaze is quite direct. Which leaves me dumbfounded; but only for a second. After all, even as a corpse I cannot risk a scandal—and in my own village, or the copy of it, of all places! The place seems vacant at the moment—but then, who knows?
They say, walls have ears... And gossip, my God, it would be devastating. For sure, it would kill my husband. His heart has been so weak lately. Betrayal—even a whisper of it—would crush him. It would add to the weight of his mounting woes. I still care for Job, even if I am here, trapped in this hellish replica of my birthplace, and he—somewhere up there, in the real thing.
In the silence that has fallen upon the room Satan leafs casually through the pages of the book. Then he raises the magnifying glass to his eye, and glares at me.
“I see,” he says. “Didn’t think so. Just testing; forget it.”
“I will.”
“You are not all that sexy, anyway.”
“And you, sir, are not such a hotshot.”

I recently read Uvi Poznansky's book "Twisted." All of the short stories ("laden with shades of mystery and the macabre") in this slim book are good, but the jewel is "I Am What I AM," which follows the wife of Job through hell to demand that the devil give her name back to her (it was stricken from "the book"). She is fierce, but she is no fool. Even she knows some dreams must be relinquished when their price proves to be too dear. This skillfully written and passionate story is worth at least twice the price of the book.

This book is a collection of four stories, each one an interesting tale of mystery and intrigue. While the plots and settings are different, there is a common thread throughout them all. I found them to be captivating and I was drawn in them with the rich descriptive nature that Uvi Poznansky has with her writing ability. The bonus is exceptional too, the poem and the artwork, to me, is very introspective, simply well done and serves as the icing on the cake. This is a book that I would suggest to those who want to get lost for a few hours and be held captive till the end in an enchanting tale, albeit dark and mysterious.

Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments Strangely, Satan does not frighten me that much anymore. And so, swaying on my hip bones, I strut out of the cave in his direction. I feel an odd urge to fondle his horns. Along the path toward him I make sure to suck in my belly, because in the company of a gentleman, even a corpse is entitled to look her best—

Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments Born in Potsdam, Germany, Gisela Sedimayer has a love for the written word. Having moved to New Zealand and then to Austria, and having fought her cancer with the best weapon--creativity--she is the author of the Talon series, bringing the story and the characters to life over the course of several years. I am thrilled to find her review of my book, Twisted:

What a unique collection by Uvi Poznansky. The tales are laden with mystery and macabre.

The first story: A dead woman lost her name and was looking for her name. She always said, “I am what I am”. It was inspired by the Biblical story of Job. It really spoke to me how Job’s wife must have felt, when Job lost everything.

The next stories: I woman. The Hollow and The One who Never Leaves. The stories are about, as the first one, of a dead woman, a cat and about Satan sticking his horns where they don’t belong.

Each story spoke individually to me but took me into an amazing and unexpected direction and spin around a hyper reality and course. It was amazing how Uvi’s mind is working, but left me thinking twice again.

I have to say, I have never read a story so mysterious and macabre and unique. But again, I enjoyed each story, because each story had something to tell and gave a message and left me thinking.

I won’t go deeper into each story, you better read the book.

Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments Now if you ask me, the guests are here for no other purpose than to pay tribute to me, as I rise over their heads in the flesh. Being in the nude, modesty has never been my strongest suit. Is it vanity, I ask you, to let them lay eyes on me, to delight in their cheers with such an open, shameless joy, and with no inhibitions whatsoever? Why should I refrain from basking in my own glory?

Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments An illusion is presented to us by bounds and leaps of ballet, by the ingenious choreography and the virtuosity of the dancers. But in a larger sense, my poem is about the way we relate to one another. Can she take flight without the support he offers--or else, is it his grip that holds her back?

Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments Here is a short a sweet review by Lori Lopez, the author of many books of lovely quirky writing, for my book, Twisted:

★★★★★ Artistic!, May 29, 2015
By Lori Lopez "Wordsmith", Verified Purchase

This is a very short yet intriguing collection loosely bound by a common theme. All of the tales are imaginatively sculpted with words by the author-artist, and there is a sense of the characters taking shape, struggling through various trials in a three-dimensional manner. I found it unusual and captivating.

Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments Job stayed with me awhile. Again and again he mumbled, in his inexplicable, pious manner, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I depart.” Men! Always thinking of themselves! All the while there I was, flat on my back, in need of some attention, and some clothes, too!

Uvi Poznansky | 124 comments Just discovered this lovely new review for my dark fantasy horror collection of tales, Twisted:

★★★★★ Completely 'Twisted'
ByTMBorgwardton

I received this for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This was a unique and thought-provoking collection of short stories. It's title says it all as it truly is 'twisted'. Poznansky definitely provides a twist on reality and on what you would expect. These short stories challenge your thoughts and your senses. They will leave you overwhelmed with a sense of 'Wow' and 'What'.

If you are looking for something unique and powerful, something different that is unlike anything else, this is the book for you. I highly recommend it.

Poznansky has a great writing style and I look forward to seeing more!
