Sound advice but I sometimes like writers that break all the rules and pull off something astounding like Julio Cortazar did. Of course, as they say, you can't break the rules without knowing them first.

Those are my sentiments exactly sir. I feel like too many authors decide to break the rules without knowing what they are first. Sometimes they pretend that the rules don't exist at all...
