Heather Pierce | 2 comments Hello All,

My name is Heather. I'm a child, adolescent and family therapist and mother of an almost 10 year old.

I'm an avid reader, particularly of YA. I have found that my love for YA has allowed me to connect with some of my clients in ways I never could have, especially those clients who are most resistant.

I look forward to getting some great recommendations from you and also being able to share some of my favorite books.

Cheers,

Heather

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Welcome Heather! Books are a great way to discuss issues without pointing a finger at a real person. Glad you joined our group!

Lori (heylorikay) | 35 comments Hi everyone Im Lori! I joined this group back in 2010 and loved it! I took a little break from it after I graduated to join the real working world. :) Now that I have gotten the hang of being an adult (or I have just lost sight of my priorities, and over adulthood =D) I've gotten back into goodreads, blogging, and my etsy shop. Im excited to get back in touch/meet all of y'all!

Hi Lori and welcome. What do you sell in your etsy shop?

message 308: by Lori (new)

Lori (heylorikay) | 35 comments Hi Eden, I sell mostly sewn handmade accessories/home items (scarves, bags, place mats, wreaths etc) but I do have a few of my art pieces up. Check it out if you want!

Franny (mrsffrey) | 2 comments Hi, I'm Franny and I teach middle school language arts. I'll be working toward getting my masters in school library studies starting this fall, too. I hope to get a position as a middle school teacher librarian someday. :)

message 310: by [deleted user] (last edited May 22, 2013 07:15PM) (new)

Hi! I'm an elementary resource teacher, specializing in reading and writing. No math! I'm also a writer of pet articles for my local community, reviews of books for young people, and a novel that is in progress. I've been reading books for all ages for most of my life, which is forty five years. :-)

message 311: by Amy (new)

Amy Miller (felesroo) | 3 comments Hi, I'm Amy. I love YA novels, especially SciFi and Fantasy themed ones. I especially love Diana Wynne Jones. I write YA books too and have two up as e-books. I'm working on another, which I am very excited about. I'm always looking for new, inspiring things to read. My recent favorite new read was Jasper Fforde's "Shades of Grey" (yes, unfortunate title, considering...) If you haven't read it, check it out!

message 312: by A.M. (new)

A.M. Pierre (ampierre) | 3 comments Hey everyone! I love reading, drawing, traveling, and learning more languages than is reasonably necessary.

Pleased to meetcha!

Chris Struyk-Bonn (wwwstruykbonn_goodreadscom) | 3 comments Hey! What a great group! I've been perusing the YA groups, feeling terribly old and out of place, but I see I'm in good company here with others who are no longer teens but read teen-ish-ly. So glad to be here.

message 316: by Jan (new)

Jan | 1 comments Hi everyone my name is Jan. I began reading YA books when my daughters were in high school and they were hooked on Tamora Pierce novels. Trading the books around was a great way to stay connected and a great way to get a conversation started. I can't wait to see what everyone here recommends.

message 317: by Kdbrand (new)

Kdbrand My name is Kimberly and I'm 40+ years old. For the last 3-4 years, I've become a bit obsessed with YA literature. Some of my favorite authors are Maggie Stiefvater, Scott Westerfeld, and A.S. King, but I enjoy anything that is well-written.

Currently, I teach middle schoolers in Missouri. One of the best parts of reading YA is the connection I make with my students through book discussions.

When I'm not reading, my hobbies include learning more about educational technology, spending time with my 6 year-old son, and spoiling my 3 dogs.

I'm excited to join this group, and look forward to participating in the book challenges.

message 318: by Nicol (new)

Nicol Buenas! I'm Nicol - I recently joined a scifi fantasy book club here which I enjoy but then went looking for YA and found you guys! I'm excited to discuss with others, especially adults like me, that enjoy YA

message 319: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Finkbeiner (cathyonwheels) | 3 comments Oops, forgot to post in intros! ^^; Anyway, my name is Cathy, and I'm nineteen, from Pennsylvania. Young Adult is honestly my favorite genre to read, mainly because they tend to be really light and just really relaxing, hehe. I've always wanted to be part of a book club, so this one seemed like a lot of fun.

message 320: by Holly (new)

Holly Smith | 4 comments I have been reading YA all my life (which is long) and will never give it up even when force fed Jane Austen (ok, I admit, I love her too). This is not something I freely admit to anyone. Glad this group exists and that I am not the only OA here. Hello everyone!

message 321: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl | 1 comments Hello there!

Ive been here for a while just never posted.

My name is Cheryl. I read all kinds of genres but YA-compte are amongst my favs.

Other things I love doing in my spare time is watching sports, listening to music, movies and socializing with friends.

Feel free to add me if you like!

message 322: by Jacinda (new)

Jacinda (jacindadietz) | 8 comments Hi!

I'm Jacinda. I am an English teacher; last year I taught high school, mostly seniors, but next year I am going to be teaching 7th grade (that's right, both extremes). Yesterday, I attended my first professional development meeting at my new school and I learned that I am incredibly out of touch with what the younger grades are reading. I've read all the "big" young adult books (Hunger Games, The Fault in Our Stars, Divergent, etc), but I admit I could delve further into the genre. I look forward to participating in the discussions and challenges in this group.

Graham & Wolf The Uncanny (graham_and_wolf) | 10 comments Hi:

We're new to GoodReads and love YA novels. The genres we prefer are science fiction, fantasy, steampunk, and some paranormal/supernatural. Dystopian novels are great!

message 324: by Jess (new)

Jess (myreadingdress) | 3 comments Hi there!

My name is Jessica, from Australia. I've always been an avid reader of YA fiction. I tend to gravitate towards YA dystopias (although I must admit that, at this point, this genre has become somewhat monotonous), YA fantasy and YA science fiction. However, I am very conscious of steering clear from YA contemporary-- I just can't enjoy them! I loved the premise of this group and am looking forward to joining in the discussions and whatnots.

Penny | 2 comments Hi everyone, my name is Penny and I'm so glad I found this group. I am 46 and love reading all kinds of books especially YA. I hope to make some friends, learn some interesting things about books I haven't read yet and share what I've learned. Thanks for starting this group.

message 326: by Mark (new)

Mark | 5 comments Hello Wild Things! I am new to the group and wanted to introduce myself. I am in my mid-forties and am a middle school literacy teacher. I am hoping to hear your opinions on different books and maybe collaborate with other teachers.

message 327: by Vicki Barnes (new)

Vicki Barnes | 1 comments I used to think that I was one of only a few adults out there that read and loved YA. I'm glad I found this group and can't wait for good book ideas from y'all and sharing some of my own!

message 328: by Mayra (new)

Mayra Perez | 17 comments @ Vicki I thought that way too but I am so happy that I found an amazing group of people that love to read as much as I do. And please if anyone has any great book ideas please please let me know :)

Hi Jacinda. I'm a 7th grade reading teacher. I wouldn't sweat being unfamiliar with YA books for that grade/age. 7th grade is sort of when the kids(especially girls) start maturing and aren't afraid to tackle some of the books the older kids are reading. Your students will let you know in a hurry what they like.

message 339: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 17 comments @Mayra I love the walking dead!!! I've read all of the books and watched the show since the start.

I recommend Saga right now! :)

message 340: by Mayra (new)

Oh wow really? I work for an events company in England called Rogue Events? You may have heard of it? We run conventions for shows like Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf etc.
How long have you been working for your Comic Cons? :)

message 349: by Jo (new)

Jo Carter | 3 comments Hey everyone, my name is Jo and I'm from the south coast of Australia. I've always enjoyed reading, but once I burst into the YA genre I became an avid one. I have a year and a half worth of books to read on my shelf and a whole bookshelf I have read.
I started writing my own novel in 2008 and I'm still writing it now. I'm determined to be published one day, but I am not rushing it. I want it to be the best novel I'm capable of.
I almost always need romance in a novel to keep my hanging on, but Harry Potter and Skulduggery Pleasant kept me captivated with minimal romance :)

message 350: by Holly (new)

Holly Smith | 4 comments Hello Jo,
You sound like me....! I do have a novel on Amazon KDP called Small Matters, A Mia Marten Mystery, which is YA. The reason I mention this is it takes place on Kangaroo Island off South Australia. I've had a few Australians read it (I'm in NC) and so far no issue with setting. As far as romance, have you read any Jane Austen? If the archaic writing style is a little tough to get through, try the movies first: sense and sensibility, pride and prejudice, Emma, Mansfield Park. If you are including romance in your book, these are classic romances with strong female leads that may give you some ideas. Best of luck to you.
