Got to add The Giver to my list - well, push it higher up the list. I've been wanting to read that for awhile.

Paula I've been lurking but have enjoyed reading the posts. I love to read YA books, there are a lot of good ones out there. I sub in libraries in a school system so love to read the YA to keep up with and recommend to the kids.

I'll let my boss know... ;)

;)

Glad you're here!

I thought you might also work there! It was really my favorite section of the store to work in.

message 213: by Luann (new)

Luann (azbookgal) | 274 comments Hi, all! I'm a children's librarian from Arizona. This looks like a great group - very active! I couldn't believe it when I started looking at dates and noticed that the group isn't even a week old yet! I look forward to participating. I love YA lit!

message 214: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) Hi Luann,

Welcome to Wild Things. We are indeed a very active group and hope to stay that way.

message 215: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) We're so glad you're here, Luann, we love the insight librarians bring. Let us know if you discover any raw talent or brand new, hot and happening books. We'd love to hear about them first here on Wild Things and make them a smashing success!

message 216: by Luann (new)

Luann (azbookgal) | 274 comments Thanks, Randi and Laura! I just added the first book in one of my recent favorite series to the "Top YA Novels" thread.

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) Welcome everyone who joined after the last time I said welcome...LOL this group is growing so fast...it's awesome!!!

message 220: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (libraryhungry) Hello! This is my first Goodreads group, but the challenge intrigued me and I just realized the other day that about 60% of what I read is YA. Who knew?

I'm Sharon, 32, occasional library student, and promiscuous reader. Good to meet you!

message 221: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Welcome Sharon, so glad you picked us first! Enjoy yourself, and tell us about your favorites in the threads.

message 222: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jess0702) Hi! My name is Jessica and I'm a 22 year old middle school English teacher...and definitely guilty indulger in young adult books for more than just the sake of my teaching :) I'm excited to share my enthusiasm with you all!

message 223: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) No need to feel guilty here, Jessica, where YA is okay!

:)

message 224: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) Hi Sharon and Jessica,

Welcome to a great group!!!

Hi all! I'm Jennifer from Upstate NY. I'm 27 for the record. Sadly, I don't work at a job that naturally encourages YA reading, but I read as much of anything I can get my hands on whenever I can. I've never stopped reading YA, and whenever I go into the YA section of my library I just want to grab whole shelves and abscond with them. ;)

message 226: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) Welcome Jennifer, we'll look forward to your opinions and insights.

message 227: by Lisa Julianna (new)

Lisa Julianna (lisajulianna) Hi Jennifer,

message 229: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (alexabexis) Welcome Jennifer! I'm also in New York. :)

message 230: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen | 229 comments Ah, anyone near Ithaca???

message 231: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (alexabexis) Tahleen wrote: "Ah, anyone near Ithaca???"

I'm in Manhattan but I end up in Ithaca a couple times a year. I love going up there, and especially shopping at the farmer's market!

message 232: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen | 229 comments YEAH, Farmer's Market!!! :) I'm going tomorrow morning!

message 233: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (alexabexis) Ah! So lucky. :) I do have the Union Square Farmer's Market near me but I don't think it can top Ithaca's. Now you have me wishing for an apricot brioche from that one stall, instead of the yogurt I'm eating.

Have no fear, I would LOVE to check out your slice of the world. I've only been to Europe once, to Barcelona.

message 235: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen | 229 comments I will look for it tomorrow and eat it for you.

Haha, yay! Thank you! And please tell me you go to Wegman's all the time.

message 237: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (seeford) | 67 comments Hi! I joined this group late yesterday (and have already posted = ) but wanted to introduce myself.

I'm Carolyn (38), and I live in Fairfax, VA, right outside Washington DC. Unfortunately I don't have a job that works in any way with books or kids, but I'm a voracious reader and have two young girls (20 months & 5 years), the older of whom is already reading on a 1st/2nd grade reading level.

I read across the spectrum of books, and while I have always enjoyed YA books and read them for myself, I'm also noting those that would be good to introduce my DDs to, when they are old enough. Last year I picked up the Shannon Hale books and some of the Donna Jo Napoli books (although I still want to read the rest of her retold fairy tales when I have time.)

My current TBR list is over 10 years long, even reading at my best rate, but I'll get to them eventually! = ) I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy, which are often appropriate for YA readers, but not marketed that way, so if anyone is looking for good recommendations in those genres (other than the Lois Lowry books), I'm always happy to help!

message 238: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen | 229 comments Um, I have a Wegmans ADDICTION. I went so far as to write a blog entry about how I might need to enter a 12-step program, Wegmans shoppers anonymous. It's pretty ridiculous actually. I am going to miss it...

message 239: by Tahleen (new)

Tahleen | 229 comments Hi Carolyn!

I can't imagine that it's closing, so are you leaving Ithaca? Are you there for school? I would live at Wegmans if I could.

Welcome Carolyn! Which Donna Jo Napoli books have you read?

message 243: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (seeford) | 67 comments I love Wegmans, but it is really a drain on the wallet - I wander in there and there are just so many good things to get!

Let's see, for Napoli, I've read Bound, which is a Cinderella retelling set in ancient China. I've also read her Prince of the Pond Otherwise Known as de Fawn Pin series, which I enjoyed and I'm now reading them out loud to my daughter. We're on book 2 Jimmy, the Pickpocket of the Palace, right now.

message 244: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (alexabexis) I haven't heard of that series, but I'm familiar with Bound. Always wanted to read her Beauty and the Beast retelling, from the Beast's POV.

Oh, Wegmans...I wish we had one here.

message 245: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn (seeford) | 67 comments I really like the Prince of the Pond series - a witch turns a prince into a frog in the first couple of pages and the whole book is about his life as a frog, and how in some ways he is very un-froglike. It's told from the POV of another frog who meets him right after the transformation happens. Very cute! and quite entertaining to read aloud (frog prince has some difficulty speaking due to his new loooooong tongue. = )
Second book is about one of his frog offspring, Jimmy, who gets turned into a boy, and the third continues Jimmy's story with that of another frog, Gracie.

Yeah, I'm leaving... I went to Ithaca College, I'm graduating in a week (!) so I will no longer have the glory that is Wegmans unfortunately.

K.S.R. (kareyshane) | 77 comments I know I introduced myself on a separate thread, buy I just wanted to say Hi here, too. I think I'm glad we don't have a Wegman's here!

Well, congratulations on graduating, even though it means no more Wegmans. Does it also mean no more B&N? Are you going home?

Heather wrote: "What is this Wegmans you all are talking about? I've never heard of it..."

Wegmans is a SUPERDUPERmarket. It's amazing. The only one I've been to is in Ithaca, NY. Not sure where else it exists, but it should be everywhere.
