Lynn (imom-e) I discovered Outlander quite by accident on Amazon as a free Kindle download. I read it twice. Then discovered there were more! My hubby bought me the whole set for Christmas this year. I borrowed 2, 3, and 4 from a friend (prior to receiving the set).

Nancy Jarvis (nanjar) | 2 comments One of my favorite cleverest bloggers (a knitter's blog) who had been a book editor recommended it. So I went there!!! So very good and I also await the next book very eagerly.

Lynda | 67 comments I first heard about the series when some friends who had been to a Highland Games and heard Diana give a talk told me about it. They had bought Outlander and the Companion. I thought it sounded interesting. Later I bought Drums when I found it on sale. It seemed strange just jumping in with that one - wasn't sure how much I liked it. Then I got Outlander and was hooked. I have read the series multiple times - at least every time a new one was to come out - and more than that. Have recommended it often. The odd thing is that my friends still haven't read the book!

Sharon (sharonreadsbooks) | 1 comments I was working at a medical school bookstore in Kansas City...one of the students noticed that during slow times I would sit behind the register and read...She brought Outlander in for me, and I was hooked...

Blondie (blonde76) | 1 comments My local book store owner recommended this series to me 2 yrs ago. I was hesitant to read this series because it was a time travel and I don't usually like time travel. so I didn't read it right away in fact I didn't actually start the series until a couple months ago and now I am currently listening to voyager. I can't believe I waited so long to read these books it is so good. I will probably be waiting for book 8 I am reading these books so fast. :)

I should actually be more specific I listened to Outlander from Amazon's Audible books. Then I checked DFIA from the library. I purchased the Outlandish Companion and read it, I know it is kinda cheating but I had to know. :) Now I am listening to Voyager from Audible. Davina Porter does such a wonderful job at reading this book she pronounces the words better then I can and I love the accents she uses. I am addicted to the Audible versions of this series.

Erica (butterflygirl1975) | 99 comments Krista, I am jealous that you are reading it for the first time. This story is my favorite. :)

message 458: by Krista (new)

Krista | 4 comments Erica, I was currently reading the part after the wedding, at the river where Jamie was sleeping and Claire was watching him and my stupid kindle powered down:( Looks like the children will be going to bed a little earlier tonight so I can have extra reading time!!

message 459: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 288 comments sounds like you are enjoying this epic love story! I am terribly impatient for the bnext one to come out!! :)

message 460: by Erica (new)

Erica (butterflygirl1975) | 99 comments Krista, you have so much good stuff ahead of you. I have reread the section in Outlander starting with their wedding to...ha ha ha, you thought I was going to tell you...probably a dozen times. And wait until you finish and read Dragonfly in Amber and Voyager. GOOD STUFF. Jamie and Claire are SO GREAT. I'm reading the Fiery Cross right now and my plan is to be finished with this series by the time the next one is released!

message 461: by Krista (new)

Um, no, it doesn't sound funny AT ALL. LOL You just wait. These books are UNBELIEVABLE. You just have no idea what you have ahead of you. So far, each book has made me cry and darn it, I don't cry at books!!!

message 463: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 288 comments you are soooo right! Jamie and Claire are so much ensnared in my brain....II have read so many other books...yet I still think longingly of Jamie!! :)

message 464: by Aliya (new)

Aliya | 7 comments My friend wouldn't stop talking about it and I thought it sounded so weird and bizarre I had to pick it up. I will admit when I bought it I wasn't all too confident that I'd finish the book but I breezed right through it. I made it to the third book but when I went to pick it up again I realized I couldn't remember a lot of the details, so I started the series over again. Just finished the first book and I loved it all over again. I'm finding it difficult to get through the second since all I want to do is skip to the third book.

message 465: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 288 comments no one reccommended it to me! I found it accidentally whilst meandering in a bookshop! as is typical of me...that's how I find a lot of my books.....and the rest I find here on goodreads...and that is how my list keeps growing! :) I am impatient for the next one though... it was supposed to be out Oct 2012...then it got pushed back....I hope it comes out soon! :) want my Jamie Fraser fix! :)

I also happened upon it in a bookstore, Borders ): and since I like big, fat books -- off the shelf it came and into my ever book-ready hands!

message 470: by Sunny☼ (new)

Sunny☼ (sunny2) I had been reading the historical series by Edward Rutherfurd and had run out of books to read. A friend said that Outlander series was similar in historic accuracy and the story was interesting. I had never read a romance book in my life at that point. After reading Outlander I was a hooked convert. Read all of the books in the series and branched out to other romance genres and sub genres and never looked back.

message 471: by Phoenix (new)

Phoenix | 2 comments A few weeks before Christmas one year, it caught my eye as I was in line waiting to pay for other books. It seemed interesting so I picked it up along with another random choice. I was bored Christmas Eve morning and decided to start it and I didnt put it down until I was finished. Then I promptly went and purchased the entire series. Which was good and bad because when I finished them, I had to WAIT for the next one! I love it. I suggest it to men and women alike.

the other courtney | 162 comments Amazon kept recommending it to me. Every single time I logged on, there it was. I admit I balked initially because of the size... Then I found myself unemployed (laid off) for the month of December (2010), with my new job not starting until the new year. Figured what the hell, I had TIME if nothing else. Got hooked so hard, I read the entire series in a month. I think may have skipped a few showers during that time... my husband was verra afraid for a while there. Said I looked possessed.

Some great stories Ladies! I admire Your tenacity!

Sunny, you finished Rutherford's series too? Admirable!

Candice | 1 comments My friend recommended it. I was a little overwhelmed by how big it was but then once I was hooked I didn't want them to end. My husband kept asking when I was going to be done with the series so I could return back to life lol. I read the whole series in a short time and was annoyed at the cliff hanger ending in the last book. Can't wait until the new one comes out.

message 480: by Judy (new)

Judy (bigfootgal) According to Diana, there will be one more big book after MOBY comes out this fall - so a total of 9.

message 481: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) For some reason I thought MOBY was last. Yay! Another book! :-)

Donna - Rosies.ReadingNook (dantaramian) Heather in FL wrote: "For some reason I thought MOBY was last. Yay! Another book! :-)"

That is because she tells us the next book will be the last ... Than the characters talk to her.

message 483: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) Well let's hope they keep talking. I realize the story can't go on forever, but I want it to go on longer.

Elisa (elixx) | 3 comments One day I went to my mother's house looking for something to read, and saw Dragonfly in amber. I asked her: what about this one??.. she had bought it a long time ago (on sale) and didn´t remember if she had already read it. I loved it, and started searching about Diana... I was so happy when I found out Dragonfly was part of a serie. now I´m reading Drums.. and I´ve got The Fiery Cross waiting on my desk!!
Greetings from Uruguay

If you have not read the first in the series you have to read Outlander before you go on to the others. In my opinion it is the best in the series! I love them all though and can't wait for #8 to come out at the end of the year. Welcome to the Outlander addiction ;)

message 486: by Elisa (new)

Elisa (elixx) | 3 comments Thanks Diane, I read Outlander after Dragonfly. It was awesome, so many things I wanted to know while reading Dragonfly.=)

Patricia | 18 comments I was looking for a series similar to the clan of the cave bear and the clerk showed me the Outlander series and I just loved it and Jamie..I want a Jamie!

message 489: by Gabrielle (new)

Gabrielle Black (gabrielleblack) | 1 comments My sister loaned it to me in a pile of books. I read it almost last, because the cover did not look promising. Little did I know that it would be my favorite book/series ever.
How it has affected my life: I had the sudden need to get pregnant after reading about Bree's and Marsali's babies. I managed to refrain from naming my son Jamie, but I did have to change the main character in my book to Jamie. I didn't change him to a red-head though. ;-) More of my marvelous restraint.

Rose (minxette2013) | 1 comments Well, I love Thrift shops and btw Tulsa has one of the biggest thrift shops:P Anywho , while living in Spring, Tx i made my regular visit to my local thrift shop and ofcouse i browse the used books. I stumbled onto Voyager and thought hmmmm its not the first in the series but I will read it for S&G hehe as my moms family goes back to Scotland , (Baird) and i was hooked on a 50 cent copy !!

message 491: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments Nice!! Many of my favorite book have come from hunting them down at the thrift shop. Didn't know i'd find them and that's what made it all the more special.

message 492: by Katie (new)

Katie (goodreadscomkathrynlily) | 18 comments My mother introduced me to them when I was a teenager and I've been rereading them ever since. They hold such a special place in my heart. On a related note, just today a friend was asking for book suggestions and I put forth Outlander. It's so true what Diana said- These are word of mouth books. That's how we so often learn about them, because they truly don't fit neatly into one genre that we can look them up in. They're a hundred beautiful stories woven into Jamie and Claire's lifetime and two hundred years of history. You just can't properly classify that.

message 493: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 1 comments A co-worker told me about Outlander. She thought I would enjoy it because I was a nurse and also into herbs. I was completely turned off when she said "time travel" but I decided to give it a try. Wow! I'm so glad I did. Best books ever.

It's also impossible to tell anything about them from the cover. I can't tell you how many times Outlander was mentioned as a great book but I didn't pick it up because the cover didn't tell me ANYTHING about the book. I know... bad me... you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and all that, lol. But I do. Can't help it.

message 495: by Lieneke (new)

Lieneke (linches) | 2 comments I found the series at my local book store 2 months back. As i was browsing, suddenly i had an urge to look down and there they were, all seven series in paperback, and there was only one each title! The cover is really attractive so i started reading the synopsis of Echo in The Bone and really interested to buy it, but as i opened the book, i realized that this is actually book number seven! so i bought book 1 (Outlander), and i was hooked! As soon as i finish Outlander, i decided to buy the next 4 books as i was so scared somebody will snatch it before me. i started in February and now i'm reading Fiery Cross. I can't wait to reach Echo in The Bone!

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Don't you just love finds like that, Sara?! It's like it was fate!

I found mine back in 1994 while browsing the book aisle in Wal-mart. The mass market paperback cover that I saw was this:

and it caught my eye as I have always had a love for all things Scottish. I picked it up and read the back and the first page and bought it immediately. There began my love affair with James Alexander Malcolm Mackenzie Fraser the Outlander series.

message 497: by Heather in FL (new)

Heather in FL (heather_fl) See, THAT is an interesting cover, lol. Not the one I got!

message 498: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 957 comments Back in '93? And '94? Wow that's twenty years ago! And they are still captivating readers! I think it was in '08 that I discovered it. It did change my life. I'm not the same person. I think a large part of why I'm still married is due to Outlander. Ha!
