Samantha (weirdlibrarian) What to do:

All you have to do is set yourself a reading goal -- how many books you want to finish reading by the end of the program -- and write little summaries/reviews of what you read.

You pick whatever books you want and then post your write ups after each book. If you want you can even wait to post the write ups until the end of the Summer Reading Program, but I don't recommend it because you have to have everything "turned in" by the last day.

Anyone can join up at any time!

Leave a comment here with the url for whatever site/blog you plan on posting your write ups so we can all read them & see what you're reading.

You never know -- someone else might be doing the same book as you, or you might even discover a great new book to check out!

Dates:

SRP 2009 will officially begin Saturday, May 23rd, and will end on Saturday, August 15th. In order to be fair, only books read during these twelve weeks can count for the SRP. Any book begun before May 23rd does not qualify.

Graphics:

There are graphics you can use to advertise the Summer Reading Program online or in print. Feel free to take any/all.

Certificates and Prize:

At the end of the Summer Reading Program everyone will receive a certificate of participation, like we have the last three years. But this year there will be an actual prize: A $25 Barnes and Noble gift card!

To qualify for the prize you must meet your personal goal by the deadline. A winner from those participants will be selected at random. Since I am the moderator of the Summer Reading Program, I am not eligible for the drawing.

The winner will be notified and arrangements to deliver the prize will be made privately.

Krazykat | 10 comments thanx 4 clearing up the rules, sam--now i know what 2 do & how & when! i'll prolly read at least one book each of those months (sounds wimpy, i know, but i don't dare commit 2 more w/the craziness of SRP at work!! if i can fit anymore in, i will & i'll post my reviews on goodreads.

message 5: by Lola (new)

Lola | 4 comments My goal is to read 5 non-romance titles. Gotta break out of my genre rut!

I'll post my reviews here on Goodreads.

message 6: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (weirdlibrarian) Someone asked if graphic novels count towards SRP and I wanted to share my answer.

SRP does not censor ANY reading materials!

The ultimate goal of SRP is to get people reading. ^_^

message 7: by Diothaen (new)

Diothaen | 1 comments Last year I only read one book, considering I hadn't read a book in years, that was quite an accomplishment for me. Since the end of SRP 2008, I've read almost 10 books. So this year my goal is for at least 3 books in 12 weeks. I will post my reviews on MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/diothaen

message 8: by Jessikah (new)

Jessikah (ambermoone) | 5 comments My Goal is 7 books. One must be non fiction, at least 2 of them must be adult or non children's YA books. The non fiction book CAN fit into this.

I will post the reviews here and on my new blog which is:

http://seshetastemple.blogspot.com/

For me the SRP will begin NEXT week on Memorial day weekend which will be a challenge because it is PACKED!
-Jessikah

message 9: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Watson Considering how much I read, which is voraciously, I am setting my SRP goal at 20 books. I will probably meet half of that goal while on vacation. I will post my reviews here.

message 11: by Brian (new)

Brian | 2 comments My goal will be 3 books. I will feel quite proud to accomplish that.
I am so envious of how a lot of you Ladies seem to just devour books by the dozen...
I guess I shall hafta learn to walk before I can run with the 'Gazelles' :}

I was looking at that last night, yeah. Marking those books that way made it easier to see what you were planning (or hope) to read this summer. Great idea, Meghan!

I'm setting my goal at 25 books. I'll probably read more, but won't review them. That's the part I'm really really bad at. :P I read them and don't bother to add them to anything. I'm just lazy.

I am also going to abstain from the drawing, since I help Samantha host a Blogger account for people who don't have a place to add their reviews: http://summerreadingonline.blogspot.com. To be added to the author list just send me a message! (Hopefully I'll be better at keeping up with it this year!)

message 14: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 8 comments Just noticed I never set my goal on here. My goal is 15 books.

I also made special shelves in all 3 categories for my SRP books.

Just reviewed my first book!

Kelly (readingkelly) | 5 comments Mod
oh my goodness I was only going to set my goal at 10...

I think maybe 10 and one nonfiction or classic book.

So that would be 11 in total.

I will also post them on Goodreads as well as my blog: http://readingkellybooks.blogspot.com/

message 16: by Andrea (new)

Andrea (alwright1) | 4 comments I'll set my goal at 15. I'll post my updates here on goodreads. I have a blog at inotherworlds.be, but I'll probably only post a follow up at the end of SRP there.

message 17: by Lela (new)

Lela | 2 comments What a fun idea! I read a lot of fiction so I'm setting my goal of 3 non fiction and 10 fiction. I'll make a shelf on Goodreads.

message 18: by Judith (last edited Jul 07, 2009 11:18AM) (new)

Judith | 1 comments I can't find my original goal (one book per month) so I'm setting a new one of 10*. My status updates & post book commentary are on my Goodreads . Like Andrea, I'll plan to do a summer reading wrap up on my blog. *10 total I also added a SRP shelf.
