Here is an interview from this week's author PAIGE SHELTON
Mini Interview with Paige Shelton
#1 Where do you see yourself as a writer in 10 years?
P.S. I just hope to still be writing. In fact, I hope they'll have to someday
pull my cold dead fingers from my keyboard to get me to quit.
#2 If you could live anywhere regardless of the weather, where and why?
P.S. That's tricky because I haven't yet visited everywhere I want to visit. I
have, however, lived in eight different cities/towns - mostly in the Midwest
- and my favorite place is where I live now, which is Salt Lake City. I love
the entire state of Utah. My second choice would be somewhere in the state
of New Mexico. I haven't seen the whole state, but I love the parts I have.
#3 What genres do you like to read when you are not writing?
P.S. I read almost every genre except fantasy and Oprah books. I've tried to read
Oprah book club books but I find them too sad.
#4 Do you do book signings, if no do you have plans to, when and where?
P.S. No book signings planned at the moment, but I've done some and hope to do
some in the future.
#5 Do you" base" any of your fictional characters in your books from people
in your personal life?
P.S. I don't think so. Truthfully, my characters come to me more than I create
them. I've tried to fight them on their hair color or a personality quirk,
but they always win and end up being exactly like what they want to be like.
#6 What are working on now?
P.S. Lots of stuff: the first book in my Scottish Bookshop series, the first book
in my Rescued Word series, and the fifth book in my Gram's Country Cooking
School series. I have a pretty strict writing schedule that keeps me busy,
but I enjoy every second of it. Those are all 2015 books.
#7 Do you have any talents other than being a great writer?
P.S. Well, thank you. I'm pretty boring. I love to hang out with my family, I
love to write, and I love to read. Nothing else is all that interesting to me.
Thanks a bunch to you and everyone in your book groups, Candace.

Mini Interview with Virginia Lowell
1.Where do you see yourself as a writer in 10 years?
V.L. Assuming I’m still alive in 10 years, I hope to be writing! I love writing the cookie cutter shop series and hope to continue doing so, but I have other projects in mind, as well. I’d like to try my hand at nonfiction, which I love to read.
2. If you could live anywhere regardless of the weather where and why?
V.L. A couple days ago, we hit about -30 here, so almost anywhere else is sounding good to me right now. If it were possible, I would live in London, England, though I’d choose the London of about fifty (or more) years ago. It was a fascinating city, and I’d love to hang out with the British mystery writers of that era… if they’d let me.
3. What genres do you like to read when you are not writing?
V.L. I grew up reading the classic British mysteries: Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, Ngaio Marsh… I read them over and over, and I always find something I’d missed. When I’m writing, I can’t read mysteries, so I read quite a bit of nonfiction. Sometimes it’s research for my book. When I have the time to choose, I’m most intrigued by history and psychology. Also, I have to admit to a fascination with research on the brain, possibly because I often worry about my own!
4. Do you do book signings if no do you have plans to, when and where?
V.L. Transportation is a problem for me, so I do few bookstore signings, although I always do a release signing at Once Upon A Crime Bookstore in Minneapolis. Mostly, I write guest blog posts, answer emails, and try to keep up my website (www.virginialowell.com). On the 24th of each month, I contribute a post, written in the voices of my cookie cutter series characters, to www.killercharacters.com
5. Do you “base” any of your fictional characters in your books from people in your personal life?
V.L. Nope, not a one. Honest. I pick up traits and quirks simply from meeting or getting to know people, but none of my characters is based on anyone from my personal life.
6. What are you working on now?
V.L. Right now I’m working on a sixth cookie cutter shop mystery, as yet unnamed. (The fifth, Cookies and Scream, will be released on July 1, 2014.) When I need to get away from cookies (or I’ll scream), I work on a series set in a previous era, which I haven’t tried to market yet. And I have a ghost story that’s been rattling around in my head since it came to me in a recurring dream. I had to start writing the story in order to get rid of the dream.
7. Do you have any talents besides being a great writer?
V.L. Wow, thank you! (I love compliments, whether or not I deserve them.) I enjoy working with color and design. I suspect that, at least in part, it’s because no words are involved! In the summer, I press flowers from my husband’s garden and use them to create cards to send to friends and relatives. Also, I love to do free-form embroidery. I just make it up as I go along. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but either way there’s no pressure. It’s just fun. There’s something about working with color that wakes up my brain and makes me feel content. Then I can face book revisions.

Mini Interview with Deborah Sharp
#1 Where do you see yourself as a writer in 10 years?
D.S. Ten years ago, when I'd just turned 50 and left the news business, I never could have predicted where I'd be today: Five published books, a couple hundred appearances, and a few interviews on NBC's Today Show under my belt. I just celebrated (?) my 60th birthday, and that landmark has me weighing where I go from here, and what part writing will play in that journey.
#2 If you could live anywhere regardless of the weather where and why?
D.S. I had the fabulous good luck to visit Italy last year, my first time. I wouldn't mind putting down roots in the Tuscany region, for its food, beauty, and relaxed pace of life. I picture myself in a crumbling villa among rolling hills, surrounded by an olive grove. Shhh, though, since I haven't shared this idea yet with my husband.
#3 What genres do you like to read when you are not writing?
D.S. All the way back to Bridget Jones's Diary, I've escaped with what used to be called Chick Lit (What are they calling that these days?) Authors like Jennifer Weiner, Emily Griffin and Mary Kay Andrews. I also like to read other funny mysteries, especially those with a great sense of place and strong female characters.
#4 Do you do book signings if no do you have plans to, when and where?
D.S. I've cut back on traveling to book events, but I recently visited the public library in little Okeechobee, Fla., which is the real-life inspiration for the fictional Himmarshee in my books. On February 15, I'll be at Barrel of Books in Mount Dora, Fla. I'll moderate one panel and be on another at Sleuthfest in Orlando, March 1; and I'm a featured author at the Lake County (Fla.) Book Festival, March 13-15.
#5 Do you “base” any of your fictional characters in your books from people in your personal life?
D.S. I'm surprised my real mom never sued me since I stole so many details from her life for the Mama character in my Mace Bauer Mysteries. She's been married multiple times, likes her sweet pink wine, and owns an array of sherbet-colored pantsuits. Unlike the fictional character, my mama has never ''done time.'' She's only 99, though, so maybe there's still a chance she'll get busted for something.
#6 What are you working on now?
D.S. See the answer to No. 1, above. I'm taking a writing break while I figure out what to be when I grow up. Will there be a sixth Mama book? A short story collection? Will I do something completely different? I'll let you know when I find out.
#7 Do you have any talents besides being a great writer?
D.S. I can't sing, paint, or play the piano, but I have been blessed with an unerring sense of direction. This talent was much more impressive before everybody got GPS and Mapquest. Put me in any city, and I can always figure out how to get from Point A to Point B. (I wonder if I could apply this talent to mapping out where my life goes next? )

Thank you for the informative, insightful, and often humorous mini-interviews that you do with each week's "featured author" Candace. I really enjoy learning more about these authors, their aspirations & inspirations, and more about the book series & characters that they've created. Plus, I've been able to add so many new-to-me authors to my to-read list after reading the "featured author" discussion threads! Thanks again and happy reading! ☺
THANKS, TRISH! It is fun to learn things about the cozy authors we love, at least for me! I think it is a great way to.connect with them.

Mini Interview with Wendy Roberts
#1 Where do you see yourself as a writer in 10 years?
W.R. I plan to still be writing because it’s my passion! I don’t make goals to write a certain amount of books or to make any particular list like the New York Times (although that would be awesome), but I do hope that I’m still honoring my fans with quality of writing.
#2 If you could live anywhere regardless of the weather, where and why?
W.R. I live on the West Coast of Canada and I wouldn’t consider living anywhere else. I do, however, love to travel and plan on putting my feet on every continent within the next few years. One of my goals is to go back to Paris and spend some time writing at a marvelous bistro named La Palette.
#3 What genres do you like to read when you are not writing?
W.R. My reading tastes are varied. I love a good romance as much as a heart-stopping thriller and I absolutely love it when someone recommends a book to me.
#4 Do you do book signings, if no do you have plans to, when and where?
W.R. My last 3 books have been digital only releases so I haven’t done any scheduled signings. Next time I have a paper release you will find my book signing schedule up on my website www.wendyroberts.com
#5 Do you" base" any of your fictional characters in your books from people in your personal life?
W.R. Always! Every person who cuts me off in traffic has the opportunity to die horribly and every kind interviewer has the chance to become a character in one of my books. Mostly my characters are a combination of all the personalities that I interact with daily.
#6 What are working on now?
W.R. I’m presently working on a story about a palm reader. I’d tell you more, but then I’d have to kill you.
#7 Do you have any talents other than being a great writer?
W.R. If I wasn’t a novelist I would be a great hot tub tester.
