I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was a well written, very authentic story. I was surprised to find that the story was somewhat based on the author's life. Though the vulgarity was a little much at some points, it added to the authenticity of it. It sucked me into the book. I really enjoyed the end, in particular. I was shocked to find out about the father's almost secret life, with a whole other family. That was something I did not expect. I would definitely recommend this book.

completely agree with your review, Ellen. The brutal vulgar parts made the story what is was. If Diaz would have sheltered the readers we wouldn't have gotten the real effects of how Yuniors life really was.
