Finished Little Bastards in Springtime: A Novel . 5 stars . My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I am about to start reading Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me. I like her style. Has anyone in this group read Dark Confessions of an Extraordinary, Ordinary Woman? I'd love to discuss it. It was so honest and raw. I couldn't put it down and read it twice in the same week.
Liz wrote: "I am about to start reading Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me. I like her style. Has anyone in this group read Dark Confessions of an Extraordinary, Ordinary Woman? ..."Wow. Twice in a week? Im going to have to take a look at it! If I can, I'll try to read it. :-)
Ms. Bridget wrote: "Liz wrote: "I am about to start reading Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me. I like her style. Has anyone in this group read [book:Dark Confessions of an Extraordinary, Ordinary Woman|..." It's a deep look into someone who is struggling with typical teenage troubles that escalate into an abusive relationship, drug use, and depression. I liked it because she doesn't make excuses for her mistakes and simply uses her story to inspire others to avoid the same pain she endured. It's not for everyone or purely entertainment. It's more for people who are struggling in life. Please let me know if you end up reading it.
Just finished My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry. 4+ stars . My review : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm just starting "All The Light You Cannot See"Already, want to find my reading corner & ignore everything else...
So I'm now reading The Mechanical by Ian Tregillis. It's a Steampunk novel and the first of the Alchemical Wars trilogy. I keep telling myself I'm gonna focus on Ruby and get it done, but then another book catches my interest. I'm hopeless! lol
I just finished Night of Many Dreams and Sweet Dates in Basra: A Novel. I am listening to Citizens Creek today.
Liz wrote: "Ms. Bridget wrote: "Liz wrote: "I am about to start reading Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me. I like her style. Has anyone in this group read [book:Dark Confessions of an Extraordin..."This will have to be a book I have to prepare myself for if I do read it. Books like that take a lot out of me...If I read it and can get through it, I will do a review of it. :-)

by Chris Bohjalian-- 4 Stars!!100 years ago- an event in history was forgotten about... The Armenian Genocide was a powerful attempt to rid the world of the Armenian race by the Turks. Bohjalian powerfully creates a story that brings this to the forefront, so that it will never be forgotten again!

Finished Orhan's Inheritance. 3.5 rounded to 4 stars . My review :https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This one is also about The Armenian Genocide .
Currently reading T.C. Boyle's new book, The Harder They Come. But had to put that down in order to read My Brilliant Friend for my Book Club. So much to read, so little time.
Currently reading Life from Scratch by Sasha Martin. Love that the book is full of recipes from different parts of the world.
Finished "A Man called Ove." Love, love, love.am reading "Tea in Turkey." Particularly interesting to me because we lived there for 2+ years and I had to be dragged to the plane. If you look closely at the tarmac in Ankara, you will see my heels left dents!
Have you read Dinner of Herbsby Carla Grissmann? It recounts her year living in a Turkish village in the 60s. She, too, had to be forced to leave (some Turkish law making it illegal for foreign women to live in villages). I think you'll enjoy Dinner of Herbs.Lela wrote: "Finished "A Man called Ove." Karl, thank you! I have not read it but I agree with you - I think I would enjoy it! It's on my list now. Cappadocia was one of my favorite areas of Turkey. It will be fascinating to read of her living there. That country has a way of getting under your skin and into your heart!
Finished Tea in Turkey. I loved the story and all the history he included. However, the editing was appalling! It's really too bad as his writing is clever, fun, and insightful. So, I gave 3 stars - even considered 2. As I've said before, an author whose name goes out into the world as have written a book is responsible in my mind for its quality. Reading Skippy Dies. Interesting but not easy. Well- written & edited, though!
Finished
by Diana Gabaldon-- 4 Stars!!I just love Jamie and Claire. 2nd book in the Outlander series started a little slow, but once it hooks you, you can't put it down!

I just finished The Life and Death of Sophie Stark. 3 stars . My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show.... Very mixed feelings on this one .
Finished Citizen: An American Lyric. A beautifully written, heart breaking book. Claudia Rankine is the kind of writer who can rip out your heart and make you love her at the same time! Written in a kind of series of prose poems, the plight of African Americans in general and specifically comes through. It incited both sorrow and anger in me. Why can't, or rather, why don't things change? What is wrong with this country? This world? Ms Rankine's book is very definitely worth reading!
Also finished Skippy Dies. I wasn't enamored until about half-way through this very long book. It's well written but I didn't find any character to identify with - not a necessity, of course, but I just stayed unengaged for that time. Then, suddenly, I was into it. Probably it was a reader issue! Not an uplifting book but does end in hope. BTW, Skippy dies as soon as the book starts, goes back in time until the death and then forward. Not confusing, though.Worth reading if you have the time.
I just finished A Town Like Alice and The House We Grew Up In yesterday. I am not sure what to start next!
Angela, have you read On The Beach? It's pretty amazing but quite depressing IMO! I have a friend who loves Shute books & has them all. His favorite is A Town Like Alice.
Angela M wrote: "Sara , how did you like A Town Like Alice ? I loved it and I'd like to read more by Shute."
Angela, I liked it a lot. Ironically, I was reading The Narrow Road to the Deep North befoe Alice, and they both had POW part in common. I enjoyed Alice a bit more since the storyline was more uplifting when Joan moved to Ausralia!
Lela wrote: "Angela, have you read On The Beach? It's pretty amazing but quite depressing IMO! I have a friend who loves Shute books & has them all. His favorite is A Town Like Alice."Lela I haven't read On the Beach but it's on my list . I really loved A Town Like Alice so I hope I like that one .
Just finished Girl on the Train 4 stars. All of the Harry Potter books (all 5 stars), and God Help the Child by Toni Morrison (4 stars). Now reading The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl by Issa Rae.
I've finished The Millionaire and the Bard: Henry Folger’s Obsessive Hunt for Shakespeare’s First Folio
