Beth, I'd also like to know who is the author of your recommended book))
The author is Thrity Umrigar - I can't look up the spelling right now. I know Thrity is correct and Umrigar is at least close! It's a wonderful book! A big favorite! She's a fantastic writer!

thank you, Beth!
I'm finally reading Rohinton Mistry's A Fine Balance. I believe it was an Oprah Book Club selection back in 2001.
Ken wrote: "I'm finally reading Rohinton Mistry's A Fine Balance. I believe it was an Oprah Book Club selection back in 2001."We read this for my book club. A Fine Balance is a wonderful novel. I just loved it. Rohinton Mistry is a terrific writer. Enjoy!!!
I finished The Museum of Extraordinary Things and what a disappointment! 2 stars. It took me about 150 pages to get interested in it a little bit. I forced myself to read because I can use it in many different challenges.
I was hoping to read about Museum of the Extraordinary things, but I was reading some weird kind of mystery. Tho events took place in the museum like 50-55% of the time, it wasn't about the things, few times they even mentioned the things I didn't get my satisfaction about them. It was really weird read and I would have returned it to the library next day if I couldn't use it - at least I'm getting some kind of use wasting my time on it.
I have read reviews about comparing this to The Night Circus - I have no idea how people even can put these two together. NC is 100 times better.
But this is only my opinion
Now I'm starting Memoirs of a Geisha. Hope I like this one :)

Liis, my assessment of The Museum of Extraordinary Things was horribly disappointing.
Likewise, I don't think you can even compare The Night Circus; it is just sooo much better.
Hi, Liis,I haven't read _The Museum of Extraordinary Things_, but I loved _Memoirs of a Geisha_, as did everyone else I know who read it. So I hope you will enjoy this one!
Happy reading,
Laura
When Washington Was in Vogue: A Love Story I stumbled upon this title a couple of weeks ago. It has turned out to be a lovely discovery. labeled as a lost novel of the Harlem Renaissance, it was written by the first professionally trained black librarian in America.

I have read 2 chapters from Memoirs of a Geisha and so far loving it!Haven't had time to read tho - got manicure and pedicure with my mother-in-law and soon going to movies with hubby :)
Memoirs of a Geisha - totally good book! Loved it. Just finished a brain candy book. I'm a bit of an Holmesian so read Journey -3rd in a series with Holmes and (gasp) a woman! Not sure what's next. Still working on several others! Maybe I should finish a few of them!
Hi, Lela,I like Sherlock Holmes mysteries, too. (I'm assuming that's the Holmes you meant; correct me if I'm wrong.) Who writes that series?
Oh, yes, most definitely Sherlock! The series is written by Annelie Wendeberg. There are 3 of them so far.
I have just read The Rise & Fall of Great Powers. 5 stars - loved it. Wonderful character in Tooly Zylberberg .Also just read in the last 24 hours because I could not put it down, The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry also 5 stars. You have got to read this book!
Thanks for the tips, Angela! I've now put these on my "to-read" list. I work at a library where I recently cataloged _The Storied Life..._ I'm excited to know it could be a real gem!
Got a "deal" on The Good Luck of Right Now & started checking it out. Couldn't stop so that's what I'm reading!

I also rated it 3 stars and wanted to like it and really didn't - too much name-dropping and boring Hollywood types whose personal lives don't interest me in the least.
Beth, I totally agree with you... just too much nonsense got in the way of this one being truly great!
Just starting Lucky Us. Just finished All the Light We Cannot See
Here's my review : https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished
4 Stars!!1930s East Texas, high racial tensions and a serial killer on the loose... Quick, fast paced mystery, I would recommend!

Finished Memoirs of a Geisha last night (loved it) and trying to start And the Mountains Echoed today :)
Lils, did you like his other 2? The 1st is still my favorite and this one was running neck & neck until the last part. I'm interested in what you think about it.

Hey Britany
I read this last year while lounging poolside in The Mayan Riviera and I must have been in the mood for it because I liked it. I knew while reading it that it had flaws just as you & others pointed out, but I just love books set in Italy, Greece, etc...I envision the beautiful beaches, sand, sun, people, food, wine, etc...and I am off to another place & time.
Could have been better but it hit my mood at the time:)
I finished The Lady of the Rivers by Philippa GregoryMy review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I agree Barbara, that sometimes reading books at certin times hit us differently. I didn't think it was a terrible book, just wanted to love it as much as you do :)
Finished
4 Well deserved Stars!!1960's North Carolina- Social worker Jane meets 15 year old Ivy Hart and her family who live in a shack on a big Tobacco farm. Eugenic program ran rampant- where the government sterilized young women and men to curb reproduction by those that were thought of as "feeble-minded"
