Last Night at the Ritz question

I really enjoyed this book; I found it witty and very real. But I felt a little let down at the end - the almost hidden note of the scar on her head and going to a hospital - did you read this as going to a rahab center, or did she have to have surgery; I thought about her slight dizziness alluded to at the end, but put it down to alcohol. And if it was that serious, why did she wait so long to call her husband? Thoughts?
