An insightful book for literary scholars. It tackles different techniques for teaching poetry, fiction novels, even Shakespeare. It is a must have for every literary teacher. I thought it would be a dull text book yet again, but to my surprise(and what a delightful surprise)it was a very helpful book. A great teacher (Isagani Cruz) used this book to teach my professors in my Master's Degree, and likewise they used it in their classes.
I gave this book as small gift to the "mother I never had" better known as the Gorgeous Goddess in my Bachelor's degree, and she also love the book.
My most memorable lesson in this book is 'Teaching by particularization'. It says that you need not teach the entire, chapter/book, but only fragments that build up the story. Hence, the effect is you leave the students wanting for more.
A great read as well since the language is evocatively simple.
