Jim (jimbreads) Working my way through Two Brothers by Ben Elton. It's a long book but easy to read, a good story but quite in your face concerning the Holocaust. I'm not sure if I'm enjoying it yet, even though I'm more than 300 pages in.

Desmond Bishop | 11 comments I have just read George Orwell's first novel - Burmese Days. An absorbing read based on his own experiences. He actually worked as a policeman in Burma, but it didn't take him long to satirize the British colonials. I am in Thailand at the moment and intend visiting Myanmar next month.

Khenan Bragador | 140 comments Just finished The Red House Mystery (by the author of winnie the pooh)..i was very surprised he wrote a mystery novel :) It was nicely put together but reinforces my preference of american mystery :)

Still in the middle of Collected Stories (Everyman's Library) by Raymond Chandler by raymond chandler :D All of his short stories. Wasn't sure if should read the short stores that were cannabilized then read the corresponding novel, but decided to just read through them. Its very fun to read, and see his writing get better as they go along :)

Oh, I've read a book by Gervase Phinn before and enjoyed it. I'd forgotten about him of late - I must track down another now I've remembered! I do like reading books set in the British countryside - anything by Miss Read, Ann Purser, Rebecca Shaw or similar. Thanks for reminding me about Gervase Phinn, Kim!

I had not heard of Gervase Phinn before but those books sound delightful. I used to live in Yorkshire and went to uni in Leeds, so it would be nice to read about the area. More books to go on my TBR list!

message 4584: by Wonderkell (new)

Wonderkell Finally got around to Breath by Tim Winton. Good so far!

message 4585: by Wonderkell (new)

Wonderkell Also re-reading all the novels for my Gothic Lit unit for Uni. Have to re-do the unit after I got really ill & had to drop the unit late. Had a year off & I'm raring to go. It's an interesting unit taking classic gothic lit & examining how it has influenced more modern works.

Starting with The Monk, The Italian then moving on to Dracula, Frankenstein, Edgar Allen Poe & then Twilight & the Buffy the Vampire Slayer & True Blood tv series. Yes I can actually watch two of my fave tv shows & call it study!

TV show for study brilliant

I'm re-reading The Hunger The Hunger (Hunger, #1) by Whitley Strieber Perhaps something to consider Wonderkell.
