Started The Secret Keeper. Should not have started it straight after The Witch's Daughter because I am really getting tired of this jumping around in time device. It was okay for the first 100 books that did it but please find some other way to write a story!!!

I think he's actually improved as an author since the Passage. Some of the writing is brilliantly evocative but yes the plot is starting to unravel a bit. Hope he can hold it together for the last one

Reading Lover Eternal by J.R.Ward loving it finished the first Black dagger brotherhood book yesterday... The dagger boys are so HOT!!!!!

I've just started a Tim Winton book from the 80s: Shallows. It was his first Miles Franklin Award. SO far, so good.

About half way through Inside the Third Reich by Albert Speer. Very well written, expertly edited. Though I must say it sounds heavily sanitised to make a surreal evil realm seem pallitable, and a fanatic, human. Speer has written with his reputation in mind, with self-serving, revisionism, however, it still is the best insider's view we are going to get of Hitler's inner circle, his style of leadership, and lastly, his pathology.

Certainly interesting, and so well written, like a master class in that heavily educated English. Cambridge, or Oxodian, yes, I am sure they call themselves Oxodians. The English writers who represent these styles, are composers, who play extraordinary melodies, with words.

I'll look up the Tim Winton book. He is a talent. What an understatement! Talent ... try genius. If he writes, "The sun is burning." I get sun burnt. He is that good!

Thought I better double check. And it isn't Oxodians. It is Oxonians. And, both universities claim Stephen Hawking went there. Still, on this one. Will verify this. I personally reckon he went to Coorparoo State High with me. I remember he used to sit behind me and look over my shoulder. No, not for the answers ... for a laugh!

I'm glad you liked it Tango. I would suggest something light after reading The Street Sweeper. I don't know about you but that book drained me - brilliant storyteller but so intense.

I'm just finishing 'The One Hundred Year Old Man Who Jumped Out of the Window and Disappeared' by Jonas Jonasson.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. On the face of it the story is about a 100 year old man who is a bit of a rascal and disappears from his nursing home on the day of his birthday party in order to find himself a 'proper' drink. He then steals a suitcase full of money from a bikie gang member and the chase is on. As the story unfolds we find that this old man has had quite a life and we follow his antics through modern history as he meets Churchill, Truman, Stalin, Mao and many others. It reminds me a bit of a Swedish version of Forest Gump at points.
