BlueSky Righto Brenda :) I gather you enjoyed it?

I should have mentioned, The Ethical Vamp series is nothing like the usual vampire fare. Quite refreshing and intelligent.

No, I haven't actually read it, but I've been thinking about it for awhile, and it's been on my TBR for ages!!! That's why I'd like your opinion:)

Hey, is the group currently reading Kirsten Tranter's book? Her mum, Lyn, was my literary agent for the last five years (a very good one too, but I broke my contract mid-last year, to go indie).

No we just put new release books up the top of AR every couple of weeks, for people to check out. We have enough challenges so we don't need add to them:)

message 3455: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't think we had group reads. I like the monthly challenge better, more open :)

I find the group reads in my other groups hard to keep up with! Especially as my to-read list grows daily. :)

Yes! I'm currently culling my TBR list, which was at 651, to try to reduce it! That would take me the rest of my life to read....lol

message 3460: by [deleted user] (last edited May 11, 2012 12:09AM) (new)

I find books daily! I try to resist, I really do! Luckily we have a good state library system. But I've only been on goodreads since Nov last year, and I have 247 books on my TR list. I will have to learn restraint. :)

BlueSky Brenda, after a slow beginning, I am finding Jasper Jones very hard to put down. I want to race through it to solve the crime, and take it slowly to savour the writing, at the same time! Such a beautiful use of words ...

message 3463: by Anne (new)

Anne Just read The Lightkeepers Wife by Karen Viggers (4 stars) set on Bruny Island, Tasmania and Past the Shallows (3 stars) also set on Bruny and nominated for Miles Franklin.

Danielle | 33 comments It's not often I read two books in a row that I just can't put down Life, on the Line: A Chef's Story of Chasing Greatness, Facing Death, and Redefining the Way We Eatone of the most compelling chef stories I've ever read, and Midnight's Children.
It's the first time I've read any Salman Rushdie and I have to say I'm loving it.

Dee-Ann | 644 comments Picked up a copy of Open Wide, Come Inside from the give-away trolley at the library, and started reading it (even though I am reading at least 2 more books at the same time). I find it hard to say the title of the book and not sing the rest of the tune.

It's good. I should have given it a higher rating, really. Not sure why I didn't, other than the fact that the subject matter was disturbing. Ah, the fickleness of reviewers :)

message 3475: by [deleted user] (new)

Added it. She was pregnant with Roman Polanski's child at the time. Manson was a horrifying nutter. Awful background and too much acid. I found it a very scary book!

This just came in for me at the library: The Men Who Stare at Goats, but I have three books that I am currently reading. Seriously, not enough time in the day. Devoting some ernest reading time to the problem. They all are so good!

Hi Jane, welcome to the group! If you'd like to introduce yourself here http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3... there'll be lots of members who'd also love to say hi!

I also know some who've read this, and there are varying reviews...

Monica Lamperd | 51 comments I picked up Mugglenet.com's Harry Potter Should Have Died: Controversial Views from the #1 Fan Site from the Library the other day... as much as I love Harry Potter, Mugglenet, and the boys who wrote this book, the book's not amazing. Trying to get through it quickly so I can start The Knife of Never Letting Go!

message 3488: by [deleted user] (new)

I second that! Do you like French literature, Michael? I'm a big fan of Zola. I found some great ones I hadn't read, free for kindle on amazon.

message 3489: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I've not read Émile Zola, what do you recommend?

message 3490: by [deleted user] (new)

This is the series that I love.

"Les Rougon-Macquart is the collective title given to a cycle of twenty novels by French writer Émile Zola. Subtitled Histoire naturelle et sociale d'une famille sous le Second Empire (Natural and social history of a family under the Second Empire), it follows the life of a fictional family living during the Second French Empire (1852–1870) and is an example of French naturalism."

My favourite so far is The Earth, but I loved Nana, and L'assommoir too. Germinal is grim (hey, they all are, but to my mind, so good) This the order they were written in:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Roug...

I have another four or five on my kindle awaiting me. Wish I could read faster!

message 3491: by [deleted user] (new)

Although I think Wiki's got it wrong about the reading order, as The Earth comes before The Misery (l'assommoir), and Nana and Germinal are Gervaise's children (main character from The Misery).
