Tango | 290 comments Just finishing A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and have loved it from start to finish. Although written 70 years ago this book has not dated in terms of the writing, but captures the early 20th century beautifully. Very heart warming and inspiring in a good way.

message 3154: by Tegan (new)

Tegan In a Sunburned Country, published here as Down Under, by Bill Bryson. Started doing it as part of the Non-Fiction challenge before realising that one starts in March. I can't put it down though, so screw the challenge.

This is the first work of Bryson's that I've read, and I'm probably going to try the rest of his catalogue. His writing style seems a bit Pratchett-esque at times, which certainly isn't a bad thing. I like reading about Australia, and it's always good to see a Yank's perspective of it :P I'm secretly a little bit proud of our killer wildlife.

Currently reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. Loved the first one, picked the second up for about eleven bucks at big W, great so far… highly recommend this series. I think the base of the story, the games are sad, but the author has bound sadness, happiness, love and death together to create a wonderful series. On 23rd March the first movie of the first book will be in the cinemas, can't wait till then!

message 3184: by Dee-Ann (new)

Dee-Ann | 644 comments Started reading The Family Law as well as a heap of children's books. My youngest couple of children were not much interested in reading, until the local library had a reading challenge in which if you read a certain number of books, you got a raffle ticket in a draw for a Nintendo 3d DS. They never won (one other child over the period of 6 weeks read 180 books - my sons scraped through with 20), however since then they are insisting on having books read to them, that is if they are not hidden away reading comics and other books by themselves .. whatever works!!

Im so proud to say I read that trilogy before they were cool :)
If you are enjoying Catching Fire so far, wait until the second half of the book! I gave my mum the first book, and she can't stand it purely because of the character names.

message 3197: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Struggling with Tooth and Claw for the autumn challenge. Am half way through reading it and not really enjoying it much, plus I feel the storyline is fairly predictable (could be wrong of course). Oh well, maybe I can finish it quickly, or put it aside and read something better.

message 3198: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) Almost finished reading Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer-- can I just say it's the most gut wrenching, stomach turning account of factory farming that I have read to date, not just because it contains many gory details, but also there is something about Foer's writing and structure that really brought it home. Definitely not for the faint-hearted.

message 3199: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) Ok so just finished, and here's my review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
