I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one. I wasn't too impressed with her [book:Jane Seymour: Henry VIII's True Love|63352..."

It's interesting, but sadly not as well written as it could have been. The writing style is very similar to her Jane Seymour, and I've noticed that with both these books certain words are repeated frequently in the same paragraph or entire phases of the subject's life are told in one chapter, and then retold in the next... Also, considering the subject and era she is writing about, her books are very short and seem to be missing necessary details...

What were your feelings about her Jane Seymour? I don't know if I'm overly picky or if you might agree with some of the things I've said :-)

message 3004: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Read it for the February 'love interest' challenge :)

★ Jess | 3071 comments I just finished Mockingjay (the final Hunger Games book) for the second time, and it blows my mind. Not nearly as good as the first two, but still better than I remember. It is also the most depressing thing I have ever read. Ever. It's 1am, and I'm off to ay some temple run on my phone, no way am I sleeping on that.

Khenan Bragador | 140 comments Read through the Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series (by Tad Williams) recently. Massively too long. Could have cut it down in half and be a better series, but it was alright. My one dislike was the ending..don't read if u plan to read the series later!(view spoiler)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I finished this brick A Suitable Boy without wrist injury on Monday: it took me nearly 2 weeks to read it but I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the sequel, meant to be coming in 2013, either A Suitable Girl or possibly An Unsuitable Boy. It may have been a big book, but I found Seth easy to read (much easier than Rushdie!) Another favourite from him is Beastly Tales From Here And There: he's really good with verse, The Goat and the Ram is my favourite.

To be honest, I was iffy about starting Game of Thrones, but I was hooked in the first few pages. Now the series is one of my favourites lol

Tango | 290 comments Currently reading This Way to the Sea: The True Story of a New Life with an Old Love written by an Australian woman. It's a memoir based on her sea change to Grassy Head. Not particularly well written but I am enjoying recognizing many of the places and people she mentions.

I haven't seen it, but apparently its exceptional. It got nominated for a few Oscars.

I've seen the new movie, I think it was more faithful to the book which doesn't help much as the book was boring. I think I prefer the Swedish version although the American version is less graphic

message 3027: by [deleted user] (new)

really they changed the ending in the new version I cant choose which I like more, I like daniel craig more are Mikael manly because he is meant to be a ladies man (wish he could do accents though), but both the girls who play leisbeth were amazing.

I didnt find the book to boring but it diffidently was wordy

message 3028: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) Yeah they changed the ending but it still worked well with the next few books. I like Daniel Craig as Mikael but I prefer Noomi Rapace as Leisbeth, I thought Rooney Mara was too much of a girly girl for Leisbeth

message 3029: by [deleted user] (new)

I dunno I felt she was a bit more the childish girl she is sometimes described as in the book one who looks 12, Noomi was more the hardcore kick ass version I think its the actress choice to play the character to their strength I couldnt get over how different Rooney looked from social network

Only 70pages. Wish it went into a little more depth. Being Aboriginal, it was a little heart-warming read for me. I enjoyed Robert's accounts as a young boy - his stories give an insight into how some of my relatives and ancestors lived on an Aboriginal mission.
Always like to see books of this nature in stores, they are an integral part of telling Australia's history.

Shane The Winter King (The Arthur Books, #1) by Bernard Cornwell
The Winter King - Bernard Cornwell

I started this lastnight, only got in the first 20pages before I went to sleep. It's my first Cornwell novel, but so far I'm very impressed with his writing style.

Yep that's the correct one

Also someone has added the wrong cover for Bart Simpson Annual 2011 (Annuals) by Matt Groening
They've put in the Annual for Simpsons Comic which is entirely different.

It should be this: http://www.bookdepository.com/Bart-Si...

Shane What is librarian status, what does it entail ?

message 3044: by Brenda, Aussie Authors Queen (new)

Brenda | 79996 comments Mod
Very easy Shane, you only need 50 books on your shelves to qualify, here's the link to apply.. http://www.goodreads.com/about/apply_...

Go to the librarian group, you can join there whether you're a librarian or not, if you want information. It's a hugely fun thing to do, I love it, and it's not at all hard. You do as little or as much as you want.

It'll be great to have you as a librarian...you can edit your own books when necessary, instead of waiting for a librarian to do it!
