Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments Just finished Kathy ReichsFlash and Bones and here's my review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
not as good as previous Tempe Brennan novels. If anyone else has read this, I have a question that's bugging me: In chapter 30, Lynn Nolan describes the cap that the tall, thin older man who spoke to Cale was wearing: baseball cap, red with a big number above the brim, a button pinned on the side with a picture of a cowboy hat. Tempe thinks she's seen a hat like that: is this ever resolved? Did she see it somewhere that I didn't notice?

Maggi Andersen I'm reading Late for the Wedding by Amanda Quick. I read a lot of historical romance, and Quick draws me straight away. Probably because I like touch of murder and skulduggery in my romances.Late for the Wedding

Kadi (kads) | 99 comments I'm Reading Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris. I lived a sheltered childhood and was never allowed to watch the movie, and I've just never got around to watching it now. So I figured I'll read the book.

message 2860: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Capt. Hook: The Adventures of a Notorious Youth. I love new takes on old stories, and this was interesting, but some parts were unexpected. Not really sure if it's suitable for kids, which is what I thought it would be. I just started The Tales of Beedle the Bard, and as an aspiring writer to likes to think big picture and make up a whole world, JK Rowling is definitely an inspiration for me in this respect. Plus the little additions, etc. are cute.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments In the middle of The Secret Ingredient by Dianne Blacklock by Dianne Blacklock it's got such a great local feel, and a good plot so far, really enjoying it. I won it in Stephanie Campisi's competition, gave it to my Mum, but now she has read it, I get to have a read too......

I'm currently reading the 6th Ranger's Apprentice book. I'm really liking this book series. I know it's for teens, probably younger teens, but I like that it doesn't have violence and sex to fall back on, so the story and characters actually have to be good. With the Ender's Game movie now moving forward, I'm planning on reading them next. My sister loved them and I always planned on reading it. Has anyone else?

message 2886: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare

and am not starting on A Clash of Kings (A Song of Ice and Fire, #2) by George R.R. Martin which looks like its going to be a long book

message 2887: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments I've FINALLY finished American Gods by Neil Gaiman, which took me the best part of two months to read. I dont even know what I think of it...I'll add a review soonish.
I think now I just need a super quick, light read. Its been a while since I've read any Roald Dahl, so I'm going to curl up with Fantastic Mr. Fox which is an old favorite :D

message 2890: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I was given The Land of Painted Caves (Earth's Children, #6) by Jean M. Auel as an early Christmas present, the paperback is 784 pages of small print: that will keep me busy for a few days, once I start it. But Jean Auel does tend to repeat great slabs of her books, so maybe I can skip some bits......

Shane Karlology by Karl Pilkington Karlology - Karl Pilkington.

They way Karl's mind works truly amazes me. He is hilarious!

Chris Eddy (columbus3212) Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence. Gritty, violent fantasy, and a little disturbing at first - but strangely enthralling. About a third of the way through and finding it difficult to put down!

Really enjoying reading Ender's Game. About half-way through it right now, can't wait to read the rest of it and the whole series. Not sure how the movie will be done though, the ages of the characters and the actors don't really match up. Has anyone else read this series?

Kay | 9 comments I've nearly finished http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/92...

Supercontinent by Tom Nield. It's non-fiction and I got to it via a Simon Winchester book: Atlantic , which turned out to be more a fictional account of the people Winchester imagined had traveled across the ocean during it's long human history. My goal was to discover some new information about plate tectonics (geology of shifting continents), since my learning about this stopped in 1969! The Nield book is great and understandable by most people lacking an education in geology. I feel I need to read some of the latest work on Ediacaran fossils which apparently represent creatures that came before the present lines of species, but were mostly dead ends in evolution. The Ediacaran Hills are not far from Adelaide, really, so I might go take a look!

I.E. Henn I'm a regular reader of Stephen King, and I'm a fan of the time travel sub-genre of s/f, so when Mr. King did time travel I just had to get me a ticket. "11.22.63," the new novel about a man who goes back half a century to stop the JFK assassination, is one of his very best.

I've heard good things about it too. Have you ever seen the TV show 'Quantum Leap'? It sounds a bit like that. This book is definitely on my to-read list.
