Maggie I've just begun Snømannen for the winter challenge. Don't think I'm going to finish that challenge, but I'll still read the books I've chosen.

message 2302: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Lamperd I've just finished reading - I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett.
It's not easy being a witch but Tiffany Aching - teen witch - is doing her best. Then she discovers an evil ghost, a man with two tunnels in his head instead of eyes, is hunting her down.
Another of Terry P great stories about Tiffany and the Nac Mac Feegles, little fighting men, six inches high in the old measurement. Mocking, cynical, tongue-in-cheek. It's all there in Terry P very entertaining books.

I have just finished Justice review here http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Will start No Turning Back today.

message 2304: by Shona (new)

Shona (shonahusk) I'm reading Skulduggery Pleasant. It's YA with a skeleton detective as the main character. It reminds me of the Dresden files by Jim Butcher (which isn't for kids).

I love the show Merlin and I just found a book today by Terry Pratchett who the lead actor in Merlin likes. I'm not sure what to expect though. What do you think of his writing?

Good on you L..."

It's turned out to be a rather good book..It's full of small stories. When I read
The White Tiger I didn't enjoy his writing as much unless I read it in big chunks...However, he does very well with all these stories :) He's also just released a new book which I look forward to purchasing. I'm about half way through this book and think I'll have it finished this week or early next week.

Hehehe..So refreshing after a cruddy book :D

I don't watch the show, Merlin. I wonder whether its actor is Terry Pratchett, the author. I've seen TP [author] interviewed on TV. He is grey-haired and looks to be in his sixties, maybe seventies. Sadly he is suffering from Alzheimers so there won't be many more books by TP.
I like TP [author] dry humour and how he sends up ideas and situations which some people are serious about. Read one of his books and see what you think.

message 2311: by Lesley (new)

Lesley | 328 comments Finished Mia Culpa. It was quite good and very funny in places. Great observations of modern society from Gen X's perspective IMO. Now reading Solar.

message 2312: by Neko (new)

Neko American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang <- Start this today and just finished it. It's a graphic novel that has won loads of prizes. It's pretty cool story..Didn't think it was fantastic but it certainly had a nice feel to it. Will write review bit later on.

So, I started Donald Duck and Friends Double Duck by Bruno Enna

I'm currently reading three books at once but have to focus more on 'My Beautiful Career' by Miles Franklin. It's an Australian novel. Has anyone read it?

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Currently reading my way through Brendan Carroll Red Cross of Gold series and am absolutely loving it. It's obvious he's put a lot of time and effort into research and the story just drags you in and you can't put it down. I'd recommend it to anyone with the slightest interest in the Knights Templar.

Dee-Ann | 644 comments I received a free copy of The Precipiceabout a month ago and have started reading it. For the first couple of pages I found really hard and was about to give up, but once I worked out that it was the ramblings of an oldish (72 I think), education, sarcastic woman, I could see where the dialogue was coming from and am really enjoying it. I am only 50 pages in and am hooked.

I heard about this on ABC radio - sounds good. Hope my library has a copy.
(Just checked and yes they do but it comes with a waiting list. Oh well, luckily I do have plenty of other books to keep me going).

message 2335: by Maggie (last edited Aug 10, 2011 08:35PM) (new)

Maggie I have just finished (as in a few minutes ago) Bloodstain: the vanishing of Peter Falconio which I bought at the library clearance table for 50c.

Not sure how this would be but I was hooked. So fascinating. I will post a review shortly but it will be hidden for spoilers. But I recommend it - not grisly at all, more about police procedures.

I'll begin Divergent later today as part of my winter challenge.
