Carmel, I'm 1/3 of the way through and enjoying it so far. Much better than Illiad. I can also see myself joining the "Odyssey was written by a woman" camp.

I think the only one we don't own is
Scarecrow so I may have to look into getting that one too. I'm thinking of trying Temple next. The Seven Ancient Wonders series was a bit over the top sometimes. There were so many instances where I just thought 'As if!' which took away from my enjoyment of it a little.
I just finished The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and loved it! My review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... for those interested....
Well, despite all my intentions to read any number of books previously mentioned, I have started The Soprano Sorceress. This book was lent to me about 6 months ago, and I realised I need to give it back! I'm only a few chapters in, not particularly enjoying it. Reminds me of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series in that the main character is transported back in time to a completely foreign community.
Whilst I think the 'Outlander' series is comfort reading at best, it is way better than what I have read so far in 'Soprano Sorceress'. The person who lent it to me thought I might enjoy it (not too sure why, but what the hey). I feel obliged to read at least a fair whack of it before I give it back, and who knows, it might improve.
I havent read anything by L.E. Modesitt Jr. before. Does anyone know of his works? Should I persevere?
Switched from File No. 113 to The Woman in White. Absolutely loving it so far! :) Even the Introduction by Julian Symons was a good read.My favourite quote from it so far is
(view spoiler)
Just started reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and loving it. It's been in my TBR list for a looooong time, and I regret not having started reading it sooner! lol

Try to read it all if you can, unless of course you really hate it! But there is sooo much happening all throughout the book! I've read it twice....

Let me know what you think when you get to the end:)

I'm a little excited about the new book I've started. It's a cross between a sci-fi and hard-boiled novel.
Just finished I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak. Not as good as The Book Thief, but it wwas written some 4 years before that. At first I was a bit disappointed in the ending, but after reading some posts on Goorreads, I reread the last few pages and decided I liked it after all. But definitely not a children's book!
Gates of Graffiti I read this last night and it arrived yesterday....Not really alot of reading as such except at the back and end of the book. Still was an interesting book.
I've put aside Desperation for now. Its not bad, but there is nothing that makes me look forward to reading it whenever I put it down. Im reading Smoke and Mirrors by Neil Gaiman, and so far is fantastic.
Finished Before I Go to Sleep yesterday, 4 stars from me. Enjoyed it, fast fast read, certainly kept up the reader's interest in a 'have to know how this finishes' way. My review is posted but is hidden because of spoilers. My brother is now reading this book - no doubt he will also read it quickly. So now I'm clearing out all the half read books on my currently reading list so I can make way for all the other books I want to be reading at the moment. It was my birthday yesterday (thanks, I had a great day) and was given a few books (of course) including Wither and Madame Tussaud: A Novel of the French Revolution.
I guess I could read my romance novel Shadowlands (it looks like it will be a quick read) and then I can settle in and enjoy these two books.

Started reading Before I Go to Sleepwhich I picked up on the weekend. 140 pages in already ... very easy, compelling reading.

I've started Shadowlands as in the story of CS Lewis and his love Joy as per the film of the same name. This book is "based on the film script" - wish I'd known that before I started it. It's only OK. It feels like I'm watching the film which I've seen a few times. I seem to be getting through it fairly quickly though, so I can read something else soon.

I had a similar experience with a challenge book and moved on to something else. Reading is meant to be a pleasure, not an ordeal. :)

Mmm, I'll give it another 15 minutes then it's gone!

Enjoy, Brenda!
I'm now reading Zombies Dont' Cry and it is so much fun. I still have another 16 waiting in the wings and I may read another e-book next, followed by my paperback of Quo Vadis.
Just finished reading online, Calamity's Corner. Calam herself is Author of the Month for August and presents her first book, The Unhewn Stone, a YA novel set in the Switzerland of William Tell. More good things to read are LJ Roberts book reviews and romance author, Pat McDermott's cruise from San Francisco to Alaska.Calamity's Corner can be downloaded free from calam@live.com.au
