Brenda, where did you find your copy 'cos neither of my libraries have it, and it doesn't seem to be widely available.

message 2052: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) Hi everyone! I have been away for a while... Bubba and I hit the train to Sydney out of impulse for a few days away. I finished Before I Go to Sleep on the train (while bub was conveniently asleep, she was unbelievably settled, I should go on trains more often), and I must say WHOA, it was really hard to put down. All the hype was well-deserved, I gave the book 5 stars! Here's my review.

I have also finished another book on my Winter challenge (yay!) Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's
Half of a Yellow Sun - It is an amazing novel, which tells the Nigerian/Biafra conflict in the late sixties and how war affects people and human relationships. It is a brilliant work, so subtle yet powerful, with such acute sensitivity. Absolutely loved it. I think this book won multiple awards, including the orange Prize a few years back. Feel free to check out my review here.

Oh, and I don't know if I've posted my review of Tina Fey's Bossypants - it was hilarious, as I said in my review, pure Tina Fey gold! Here's my review.

Maggie, got a copy on reserve at my library. You can perhaps get your library to order it in for you? Mine does that if you request it. Good luck!

Finished The Neighbor last night, thanks Michael...here is my review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/......

Started Naked in Death...both of these are on my winter challenge list.

message 2055: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) Decided to read The Lacuna next, for my Winter Challenge. I have not read the The Poisonwood Bible so can't compare the two, but I have read so many good reviews about the latter and hope the Lacuna is as good, if not, better!

message 2056: by Neko (new)

Neko Started The Hunger Games today..Not very far into it. And finally finished Life of Pi...Still need to write a review for it.

★ Jess | 3071 comments Cant wait to see what you think of Life of Pi. Mum's reading it now and she loves it.

The Hunger Games is fantastic :) I need to re-read it soon.

message 2058: by Lee (new)

Lee (kiwifirst) Immersed in the deadhouse gates by Steven Erikson, mammoth read, heavy, intense, hard to put down. Don't think I can read all 10 in the series straight through though, might need a easier read to recharge.

I'm currently reading The Little Stranger, recommended to me by a friend as a book that is impossible to put down. Exactly the sort of book I'm looking for at the moment. It is a post war England ghost story, apparently guarenteed to scare the pants off you. Not my usual thing but I'm willing to give it a go.

I have read the Little Stranger. It's a great book! Not your usual suspence/horror story... I have yet to read Waters' other works, I heard they are very good!

message 2064: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll read your review once I finish Dhitri. Thanks for the thumbs up!

message 2065: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 22 comments I'm currently reading two books - one big heavy one for the bedside table and one little one for the trip to and from work in the bus.

Bedside reading is Horns Horns by Joe Hill by Joe Hill. Interesting premise, but I'm not very far into it.

My handbag book is Not The End Of The World Not the End of the World by Christopher Brookmyre by Christopher Brookmyre. I'm not very far into it either. It's entertaining, but not laugh out loud hilarious like some of his others.

message 2066: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) I've not read The Little Stranger but I've read Sarah Waters Tipping the Velvet; it was A very interesting book. I'm keen to read more by Waters.

But for now; I've started We Need To Talk About Kevin

I read this one a while ago (3 stars). There was a good online discussion about it too. Wouldn't say it was scare the pants off you though, but creepy, and made you think.

That is probably a good thing since I've become a bit of a fraidy cat. Thanks for the tip on the discussion I'll check it out.

message 2072: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) Still reading The Lacuna - Had a slow start, maybe I wasn't quite in the right mood or maybe it is just the precision of the prose and choice of unusual diction and slo rich and layered storytelling that threw me a bit. But 10% into the book and not only has the pace picked up a bit, but I know more about the narrator and the style to get interested in the story.

message 2073: by [deleted user] (new)

I hope you enjoy it to the end Dhirti. It is my favourite Kingsolver novel that I've read so far. The others I've read and also enjoyed are Prodigal SummerandAnimal Dreams.

I'm reading this at the moment too. Look forward to hearing your thoughts when you finish. I should finish it tomorrow. Constant Reader group has a really good discussion which is what inspired me to read this.

It's worse when you cry while reading a book, on the bus :D

message 2079: by Bronwyn (new)

Bronwyn Rykiert | 315 comments I have just finished Charlie All Night by Jennifer Crusie - it was okay. I am currently listening to Night Secrets by Cherry Adair - another one that is only okay. My book is the same Irish Magic: Four Tales of Romance and Enchantment from Four Acclaimed Authors - 4 short paranormal stories - it's only okay as well. I look forward to reading a book again that I can give 4 or 5 stars to. I just don't seem to be having much luck with my choices at the moment. I have just started listening to Reckless Love by Elizabeth Lowell.

Dee-Ann | 644 comments Due to school holidays and a desire to get our kites to fly, borrowed The Magnificent Book of Kites: Explorations in Design, Construction, Enjoyment & Flightfrom the library for some insight and also some ideas as to how to build a box kite, which is probably way beyond my technical abilities, but you would think with five sons one of us should master it.

message 2087: by Lee (new)

Lee (kiwifirst) @ Dee-Ann, I started laughing at the title of that book and then I started thinking, "I'd like to build a kite". Now I want to read it.

I’ve got this book on my TBR list Tango. I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying it. From the reviews I’ve read so far I think it might be an emotional read.

message 2089: by Neko (new)

Neko A whole lump of comics arrived this morning..Last months order finally arrived :D Now I can read quite a few of them all together instead of waiting around :D

message 2090: by Adhityani (new)

Adhityani (dhitri) Halfway through The Lacuna and enjoying every page. I have deliberately slowed down my reading: This book is like a gourmet dish, I want to take my time and savour each bite!

Oh and the zillion references to Mexican cuisine has made me actually run to my nearest Zambrero (sp?) for a quick nachos fix :D
