Sally906 | 87 comments I have got a few books on the go - all for the winter challenge - almost finished The Blood of Flowers and also reading the edge of the seat mystery Violent Exposure by Katherine Howell and finally The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud. All very good reads.

message 2008: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 87 comments I'm a fan. In fact I was a fan before it became trendy. Got an ARC of the first book and was hooked, my grandson was born 2 weeks before book 6 came out. Remember having the book propped up in the dish rack in the kitchen while I rocked Ethan while his mum had a sleep. My son in law was stunned was the first time he had met me and had no idea about the crazy world of a book addict!!!

message 2010: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments Good work on becoming one of the first fans :)
ARC? Wow...Bet you didnt pick how popular it would become?
I became a fan when I was 5 years old, in reception. My mum bought the first four books (only ones published to date) and dad read them to me for twenty minutes every night. By the age of 7 I was reading Order of the Pheonix by myself. It was one of the first novels I ever read :D

Carmel wrote: "Loved the movies just haven't read the books Jessica!!"
The movies are good, but quite literally nothing compared to the books. So much has been left out. They left like, 200+ pages out of #5

Please read them soonish :)

message 2012: by [deleted user] (new)

o Harry Potter how I love the my first one is not a first addention but i got it the year it was published! I remember every year waiting for the next one to come out from yr 2 till yr 10. I put LOR on hold for these books. Dad used to let me stay home to read them when they came out, so that no one could ruin them for me at school (always good to have a father who knows all about the power a book can hold over you :D) I quite literally grew up with harry potter :)

any way I am about to start Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis for my 50th book :D
not from any of the challenges tho.
but its almost 12 and I just finished a 7 hour shift so I think I'm off to bed

Helena did you know they are making a movie from the Hunger Games? I haven't read them yet but they are on my to do list. I have a fondness for YA fiction.

Talietha | 2 comments I'm currently on a mystery spree. Am currently reading Shirley Rousseau Murphy 'Joe Grey' series. I'm waiting for a couple of Carola Dunn 'Daisy Dalrymple' books to arrive and I've read myself out of the Georgette Heyer mood I was in while I was sick with the flu.

If I'm really absorbed into something I can stay up the full night! I wanted to really finish the audio off but since I was listening to it in the dark my eyes were becoming super heavy..lol

On the topic of not sleeping...Worst I've gone without sleep is 3 or 4 days awake. By the 4th day my jeans started to look like they had worms in them moving about. It was very surreal...I slept after that..lol

I'd suggest going to your local comic shop and thumbing through some comics..especially if they have indi comics and can be refered to as comix. Also go pick up some different graphic novels and look at the different ways they tell stories.

Some tell a story the usual way- comic/dialog. Others use no words at all but only use 'action' to tell the story. Sometimes when you read Manga you read the Japanese style from right to left and from back of the book to front- Sometimes it can be confusing..lol

Some comics have loads of text while others have very little.

Maggie Laura: ...If I'm really absorbed into something I can stay up the full night!...On the topic of not sleeping..."

Hey Laura you're singing my tune! My body and mind has adapted to going without sleep so now I find it difficult to sleep even on my days off. I regularly pull an all nighter (about once a week) when I'm on days off. I think I'm just so used to it now that my eyes see the darkness and I wake up regardless of how tired I am.

message 2037: by Maggie (new)

Maggie I'm currently reading (nearly finished) Coromandel Sea Change for my winter challenge. It's a re-read for me, and I'm loving just as much now as I did when I first read it years ago.

Then (at last) I'm going to start We Need to Talk About Kevin - just picked it up from the library this afternoon.

Maybe tonight will be a 'day off no sleeper' and I can get some reading done.

message 2038: by [deleted user] (new)

Maggie you must tell me what you think when you finish We Need to Talk About Kevin that books is one of my favorites and totally disturbed me... I even did some of my assignments on it in year 12!

I finished Less Than Zero by Bret Easton Ellis so short I finished it all today!

I'm still going on Angelology by Danielle Trussoni iit's taking me awhile because there is so much info and I have to keep cross referencing with the bible so I'm sure I know what they are talking about. It's been very informative!

and I'm about to start Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11) by Charlaine Harris for no other reason then fourth season is coming out soon and I have read all the others and hey I deserve a trash read once in a while haha. I'll prob have it finished in a day or two :D

message 2039: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Mmm....I can feel some trash reading coming up.

I would like to recommend a book to everyone to read..a book I found out about today. It's so hard to contemplate the sort of thing that happened to Sarah, happening in this day and age. It will and is, making a lot of people very angry! Sarah's Last Wish

Just transferring this from the general chat thread, so more people can see my recommendation ;D

message 2041: by [deleted user] (new)

I finally got time to finish The Sword in the Stone last night. I loved it. I can't wait till I get time to read all the rest of the books in the series. =)
