What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book)

My review is quite polite but secretly I really didn't like it. Don't tell anyone though:)

I picked this up recently Mary, it's on my shelf. It'll stay that way for a while I'd say.

One note for other readers though. I'm reading it on my kindle, and am unable to change the text size, which means that for people with visual problems it could be a big challenge on an e-reader.

Now I'm wondering exactly how they did the audio! The eBook has all kinds of emails, messaging, artwork, and all kinds of other stuff in it!

I guess I missed out on the artwork. But the emails and messages were done by using a different reader for each person so it was all quite clear to the listener. Aiden had a beautiful voice! And then there were sound effects which created a great atmosphere. So probably a completely different experience to reading it but it was such a great story anyway!

I am *this* close to finishing the audiobook of Illuminae and am absolutely awestruck by the production - it seems to be literally a different narrator for every single character (though some probably double up by doing slightly different voices for minor characters), and yes, the sound effects are brilliant. It's more like listening to a movie than an audiobook. I've listened to hundreds of audiobooks, and the production value of this one blows all the rest out of the water!

So glad you agree Sally! I am also quite a heavy user of audiobooks and this one is just brilliant:)

I love audiobooks - for the car, exercising, and just because. However this one seems extra special! I may just have to purchase it!

I think everyone has been touched by this in some way Joan...hard to write about too I'd say. Welcome to the group!

Thank you Brenda. Yes, I tend to read these books, I am a 10 year survivor. :)
Oh that is absolutely fantastic Joan! We have a neighbour over the road who was given only a few months and is still going strong after almost 5 years now:) It's heartwarming to hear the story of survival:)

That is great Joan. Good to hear those stories of survival.

Keira, and others, could I get you to post the link as well as the book cover :)
The reason I ask is this. When you are reading the posts on the application the links show up but the covers are blank. So all I see is:

Ooh yes! You're in for a treat Veronica!!!

Still reading The Lake House by Kate Morton - is a big book so my arms get tired reading it - will finish it in the next day or so - loving it!
Then end of last week I started Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine - still not sure what I think - started off a bit blah, but is coming good now so hopefully will stay good. Love the plot!
And this morning I started a cosy mystery Drizzled with Death by Jessie Crockett and loving it - such fun. Even the victim falling face first into a plateful of maple syrup covered pancakes had me chuckling as they tried to find a pulse on the sticky neck.
Ummmm - maybe its just me who finds it funny, I mean it is murder isn't it - I guess I shouldn't be chuckling at it :)

I was thinking about Ink and Bone for the November challenge if I have time left at the end of the month. You don't make it sound exciting though:)

I do hope that there is a twist further on in the book.

The Secret Chord by Geraldine Brooks was an excellent book in my opinion Jeanette. There have been many varied reviews, but I went into it with the view that it's entirely fiction:) I hope it improves for you.

And some of us will say you might have got a better view of the story, Jeanette. But then, I was one who didn't like the Geraldine Brooks version, even as fiction. So it will be interesting to see what you think. As Brenda said, it has certainly divided opinion.

Thanks for your comments but thus far it is very close to Biblical accounts. Having been drilled in the Bible as a child something imprinted in my brain. However, I do have an open mind and I am sure Geraldine will surprise me.
I'm new to Goodreads and hope to get lots of new and varied suggestions
If you browse the threads Jeanette, you'll see lots of topics (including one on this book) and you're welcome to participate in any or all of them! Welcome to the group!

The thing is, I am trying not to read them too fast, because I don't want it to end! I will be so sad when it does! I am just so in love with those characters.

I am only up to chapter 3 - so are just my initial thoughts :)
Chapter 1 was a bit in your face in one or two parts but makes sense now I've read on - by the time I get to the end it may be a 5 star!!!

This is proving to be quite a gory but riveting read :)
