My review is quite polite but secretly I really didn't like it. Don't tell anyone though:)

I picked this up recently Mary, it's on my shelf. It'll stay that way for a while I'd say.

Suz | 4426 comments Read Addition today. Thanks Marianne I remember you saying how much you loved this ages ago. And now onto The Language of Flowers c/- Jools. I've read two books in two days. That's not a typo!

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3564 comments I've begun Illuminae - so far it's excellent! I wondered if I'd be able to get into it because of the unusual format, but I don't care about it at all.

One note for other readers though. I'm reading it on my kindle, and am unable to change the text size, which means that for people with visual problems it could be a big challenge on an e-reader.

K | 1143 comments I read Before I Break (If I Break, #1.5) by Portia Moore & Almost Broken (If I Break, #2) by Portia Moore over the last couple of days while I've been off work with a bad back. Now I am reading Doctor Who Forever Autumn by Mark Morris .

Tarmia | 221 comments I am a good way through Wild Swans by Jung Chang. It is a very moving story and personally I really enjoy the way that Chang is able to meld the facts about the conflicts at the time and the details of life into a single, continuous story.

If anyone has trouble reading it then get the audio. It is amazingly good!

Now I'm wondering exactly how they did the audio! The eBook has all kinds of emails, messaging, artwork, and all kinds of other stuff in it!

message 15215: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've started The Gilded Hour by Sara Donati aka Rosina Lippi Green. I'm at pg 127 and the novel is set in 1880s New York, so far. I can tell this is going to be a great book:)

I guess I missed out on the artwork. But the emails and messages were done by using a different reader for each person so it was all quite clear to the listener. Aiden had a beautiful voice! And then there were sound effects which created a great atmosphere. So probably a completely different experience to reading it but it was such a great story anyway!

I am *this* close to finishing the audiobook of Illuminae and am absolutely awestruck by the production - it seems to be literally a different narrator for every single character (though some probably double up by doing slightly different voices for minor characters), and yes, the sound effects are brilliant. It's more like listening to a movie than an audiobook. I've listened to hundreds of audiobooks, and the production value of this one blows all the rest out of the water!

K | 1143 comments So in the last couple of days, I finished Doctor Who Forever Autumn by Mark Morris , which I gave 4 stars and I just finished Beautifully Broken (If I Break, #3) by Portia Moore which I also gave 4 stars. If you can get past the terrible editing in this series, it's well worth the effort. It's a really interesting story!

Sally906 | 86 comments This weeks reads are:

Still reading The Lake House by Kate Morton - is a big book so my arms get tired reading it - will finish it in the next day or so - loving it!

Then end of last week I started Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine - still not sure what I think - started off a bit blah, but is coming good now so hopefully will stay good. Love the plot!

And this morning I started a cosy mystery Drizzled with Death by Jessie Crockett and loving it - such fun. Even the victim falling face first into a plateful of maple syrup covered pancakes had me chuckling as they tried to find a pulse on the sticky neck.

Ummmm - maybe its just me who finds it funny, I mean it is murder isn't it - I guess I shouldn't be chuckling at it :)

I was thinking about Ink and Bone for the November challenge if I have time left at the end of the month. You don't make it sound exciting though:)

Jeanette | 400 comments The Secret Chord by Geraldine Brooks. Silly me got carried away with the "celebrity" status of Geraldine and didn't read any reviews beforehand. About 30% through the book but at this stage I simply could have reached for my Bible, opened up quickly at Samuel Chapter 27 and voila!!
I do hope that there is a twist further on in the book.

The Secret Chord by Geraldine Brooks was an excellent book in my opinion Jeanette. There have been many varied reviews, but I went into it with the view that it's entirely fiction:) I hope it improves for you.

And some of us will say you might have got a better view of the story, Jeanette. But then, I was one who didn't like the Geraldine Brooks version, even as fiction. So it will be interesting to see what you think. As Brenda said, it has certainly divided opinion.

Thanks for your comments but thus far it is very close to Biblical accounts. Having been drilled in the Bible as a child something imprinted in my brain. However, I do have an open mind and I am sure Geraldine will surprise me.
I'm new to Goodreads and hope to get lots of new and varied suggestions
