I'm reading The Elegance of the Hedgehog Muriel Barbery but i got a bit overwhelmed by negativity after 100 pages or so so i moved to A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith but was discouraged by the librarian. They are for my November challenge. So i moved to my Spring Challenge and read The Broken Shore by Peter Temple 5* instead. Still dark but couldn't put it down. Now i am heading back to the hedgehogs.

Such a shame for her because she already had a lover, Thomas Suffolk.
I wonder why the librarian discouraged you from A Tree grows in Brooklyn. Most people, including myself, have loved it; no matter at what age they read it.
I've been enticed into a Morton-fest after reading The Lake House so bought and have started The Distant Hours.

I'm with you regarding A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. In my review I describe it as relentlessly depressing:(
The Elegance of the Hedgehog didn't do much for me either!

Me either. I gave up on it yet I have a friend who loved it.
I finished What the Heart Remembers early this morning (loved it!) and will start Tears Of The Cheetah next! Keen for this one!

I pretty much skimmed through
. Oh god, it's so awful, I gave it 1 star. This author writes the way I did when I first started at the age of 14! I DON'T recommend it at all!! Bleck. It's like an extremely bad first draft. No flesh to it whatsoever. It's a bare bones, skeleton of a story that was not anywhere near ready to be published.
Currently reading these Goodreads posts when I should be reading my good book! The House We Grew Up In by Lisa Jewell.

The House We Grew Up In by Lisa Jewell."It IS a good book - I have just finished it - I nearly put it down because for the first fifty or so pages she was all over the place. I thought, "This author is all over the place and driving me crazy." Then at the turn of one more page, I was hooked and completely drawn into the story. The way she wrote it was actually perfect for the story.

Yes! Exactly what I as thinking Sally, I think that is why I have been dragging the chain with it. So I'm only up to p54 so I should get stuck in now eh?!
...I have visitors staying over the weekend so won't get much reading time then.
can't say much without spoiling - but this is a disjointed family due to the tragedy that happened at Easter - the story is disjointed to reflect the fractured family - yet they are still all linked to each other and the house they grew up in, which remains a constant.

I'm glad because I have been looking forward to this for some time now and have been saving it.
It's very bright Amir isn't it! Eye catching... I didn't realize he had another one out. Will be interested in your thoughts:)

RitaSkeeter wrote: "I loved it too - it's been quite awhile since I stayed up late to finish a book. Very realistic portrayal of what life is like for some children in out of home care as well. It felt real."Exactly, it is no literary tour de force...but gee it's a good book! ;)
RitaSkeeter wrote: "Yeah, but it is so compelling and the characters so well drawn! I sobbed toward the end (I love a good cry with a book!).";D
I'm reading the latest Robert Galbraith novel in the Cormoran Strike series - Career of Evil.
It is utterly compelling.

I read
today. I gave it 3 stars. It was a fun little rom-com type story. I rather enjoyed it. Now back to my November challenge, damnit! I keep getting distracted by ebooks. Lol
I just read a non-fiction book History's People: Personalities and the Past by a Canadian author Margaret MacMillan (review soon) and now I am reading (and very much enjoying) fiction If I Fall, If I Die, also by a Canadian Michael Christie. Not chosen that way, just that this one is the first due back at the library after my last read.
my last read Above the Waterfall was set in North Carolina. my current read Speaking in Bones is also set there.
Another of those reading coincidences I seem to get

I'm reading This House of Grief by Helen Garner, her account of the murder trial of Robert Farquharson who drove his car containing his three sons into a dam on Father's Day in country Victoria. Was it an accident or was it murder? Even though most Australians will remember the outcome of the trial it makes for gripping reading as she takes us through all the witness accounts.

I have just finished the very profound The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende. A deeply beautiful story which I'll give some thought to before I write my review:)
I am just about to embark on reading All the Light We Cannot See. I am always a little hesitant to read a book that has been raved about so widely but hopefully it will live up to its reputation.

Loving Addition. It's a debut, too. I think it was one of my first books added when I joined GR. So that means it took years for me to get to it! Think it will end up on my favourites list :D

I have just finished reading:Karen Joy FowlerWe Are All Completely Beside Ourselves - not quite sure what to make of this one - can't say I found any of the characters too convincing and found myself skimming towards the end. Will now start the 2015 Dagger Prize winning:Life or DeathMichael Robotham for a bit of 'light' relief!
