I'm only at the very beginning, and I'm not quite sure, but I am strangely fascinated... It's sort of weird, but probably in a good way.

His bio is interesting: says he plans to write a book in every genre.
Paul Torday started writing at 59 and was writing each book in a different genre until he died in Dec 2013 leaving an unfinished manuscript that will be published next year co-written with his son Piers Torday
@Marianne Just had to look him up on Wiki etc after your interesting post. Gosh, what a great pity he had not been published earlier.
I am quarter way through Sabriel by Gareth Nix, an Aussie writer. There is only one word I can say WOW! I absolutely love the picture the author paints with his description of places. I absolutely love Sabriel's house on an island in a river. It sounds like heaven.

It's definitely sucking me in so far, but it is sort of icky as well.

It is one of my favourites out of his many and varied books. But I recall it as having some rather icky characters in it:)

I just found Zoe Sharp's Charlie Fox series and just love the main character. I think there are about ten of them and I am quickly working my way through them.

Oops - sorry Brenda! I should have done that!! I'd blame my absentmindedness on something, but I can't think of anything right now LOL
Unusually I'm reading non-fiction: Why Weren't We Told? which is a surprisingly readable memoir about the true history of Australia's 'settlement'.
I just finished
. You can see my review here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
It's my longest one yet! Lol.
Currently listening to the audiobook version of The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made. The 'bad movie' in the title is The Room. So bad its good. Loving the book so far.
B the BookAddict wrote: "Started The Lake House by Kate Morton: Morton's books are a good comfort read for me."I've got to hang off on this one for a few days - I have it down for a November reading challenge!!!
So I read two books in the past 24 hours on my iPhone:
, which I gave 4 stars and
, which I gave 3 stars. Come on, November! Start already!! Lol.

Sally, hope you enjoy it. I did.
I'm reading Under the Microscope by Earl Owen, a memoir by one of the pioneers of microsurgery who established microsurgery in Australia (and much of the world). I'm finding his accounts of his early work in London and then back in Sydney quite fascinating.

I'm reading "The Reluctant Midwife" by Patricia Harmen and about to start "Furiously Happy" by Jenny Lawson...just finished "Let's Pretend This Never Happened by same author. Next will be "Gypsy Hunted" by Andrea Drew..gift from author at Meet n Greet, and then probably "Gone Fishing" by Susan Duncan. The other myriad of TBRs will have to wait a bit longer.

On the weekend, I finished Julian Barnes' The Sense of an Ending and I'm STILL thinking about it days later, and still not sure of my interpretation of the ending. Truly a thought-provoking work of art. Anyone else read it? I've now just started Maggie O'Farrell's Instructions for a Heatwave and loving it already. She is one of my fave authors!
I've started The Taming of the Queen by Philippa Gregory; already Kateryn's opinions/observations of Henry VIII's weight/body/teeth/ulcer etc are so steeped in reality, reading them is enough to make me feel queasy.I wonder if a woman/girl ever had the guts to refuse a king's offer of marriage.
@Liza I've read all O'Farrell's books but I don't think 'Heatwave...' was my favourite. Probably The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox.
I read
yesterday and gave it three stars. It was a really sweet little story. Now I am reading
for the November challenge and also
on my iPhone.
I am reading
The Lake House by Kate Morton as my main readbut also reading
Must Love Dogs by Claire Cook as the last book for my Spring challenge, and
The Rhyme's Library by Kristy Tate for my November challenge - books about books!
I just finished The Martian (haven't seen the movie yet) but loved the book. The humour in it was great.I am also in the middle of reading the Marvel Civil War arc and just started reading the Star Wars: Thrawn Trilogy that I have heard is wonderful.
I figure I would read it before the new movie comes out and all the EU books are officially useless.

Welcome to the group Danny!
I have The Martian to read yet too...
Is this correct for these two?
Civil War: The Amazing Spider-Man
Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy
You didn't mention the authors and there are several for the first one:)

I've put it on my list too. And thanks for the heads up because i will persevere.
B the BookAddict wrote: "I've started The Taming of the Queen by Philippa Gregory; already Kateryn's opinions/observations of Henry VIII's weight/body/teeth/ulcer etc are so steeped in reality..."Katherine Parr tried several times apparently but was unsuccessful. Henry couldn't believe she would sincerely not want to marry him and thought she would make him comfortable, so didn't go see why he should go without. This is apparently why her strategy of saying she was not good enough didn't work. Although he essentially agreed (because, really, who was?), he didn't care and thought he was doing her an enormous favour
