Big congratulations to your nephew Joanne! That's awesome news!!
Big congratulations to your nephew Joanne! That's awesome news!!

Youre nephew is Liam Hemsworth? Thats amazing!!! You must be so proud! Well, hes Gale in The Hunger Games. He's gonna be the next Taylor Launter or Rupert Grint.
Ugh, thats outstanding! Gale is the 'third wheel' of the love triangle, along with Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. Personally, Im more of a Peeta girl, but Gale is certainly a favorite among thousands of fans.
You should definitely read the books!
In the first book, he doesnt have a lot to do. He's just on the wings. Katniss thinks about him a lot, but hes only in it for the first few chapters. I wouldn't call him a 'lead', but a supporting character.
HOWEVER, in books #2 and #3, his role grows, heaps. He becomes much more important...much more screen/page time. And you dont have any idea of who Katniss will pick until the very last chapter of the last book.
Anyway, thats amazing! He has just landed himself a MASSIVE role in a MASSIVE film. The franchise will be as big as 'Twilight'. Only better.
Plus, your nephew will get to kiss and get very close to Jennifer Lawrence, which im sure lots of boys wouldnt mind at all:

Well I'll definitely have to read the books after that wrap up, Jessica! We're really pleased for Liam - he's a terrific young bloke. It's great to see him doing well over there.
We saw Jennifer Lawrence in "Winter's Bone" and she was fantastic too.
Just finished These Things Hidden. I read it in 2 sittings! So gripping, I just couldn't put it down. Allison, her sister Brynn, Charm and Claire..the women are pivotal to the story and all the secrets that tie them together. You feel concern, love, disgust, horror and sympathy for the characters in this book, you are drawn into their lives as things start to fall apart, and the secrets keep coming to the surface, as things go from bad to worse, to terrible....
Read it....you'll enjoy it immensely!
I'm now going to start a GR First Reads win His Mistake by Melissa Lowes. It's a novella which I am reading for the Autumn Reading challenge, #10, and my last one!

Marg I will be interested in what you think of The Wise Man's Fear. My partner really enjoyed The Name of the Wind so I am wondering if I should get him this one too.

:O! Wow!! He'd be thrilled. Is it his first acting gig? Must admit I've not read the books but I think like you I should get a copy of it..Everyone seems to love it :)!

Hi Laura - no, not his first. He's done a couple of films, the best known would be "The Last Song" last year. Have you been sick?

Ooh, yeah..Movie with Miley wasn't it?
Yep, got a nasty cold :s
I just finished the second Tomorrow When the War Began book. It was really good. I can't wait to read the third one.
I'm also about 100 pages into a new book I got called Ransom My Heart. it's a bit more romance-novel-y than I thought it would be, but I'm going to try and read it all the way through.

I preferred the second book over the first, I think it was a little darker and I liked that. I haven't continued the series any further. I should do that sometime
Too many books, so little time

I can understand your mother feelings about the books, Jessica, but there are some good points to them. Stieg L does concentrate on the corruption of officials in high places. I don't remember reading books set in Sweden before and I had to get out the old Atlas to find some of the well known places he describes. I still think they could have been cut down by a quarter at least and the reader wouldn't have missed anything.

I suppose because they are 'classics'! :)

I wanna bitch slap Alex from Prototype at the moment..ggrrrrr!

But it was a classic"
I read Catcher In The Rye so long ago my outlook may have changed, but I don't feel like repeating the experience. I remember being totally unimpressed, though I was pretty young. Who decides books are classics, anyway? The people who go for "literachoor", as opposed to books that are enjoyable?
Did anyone know J.D. Salinger (author of C.I.T.R.) worked for the F.B.I.? And at one stage J. Edgar Hoover (the boss) didn't speak to him for 5 months until he turned in a report that agreed with his own (J.E.H's) opinion?
Lord Of The Flies was certainly highly unusual and memorable. Though when my daughter had to read it for high school she said when she finished it she felt like washing her mind out with soap...

Back to fiction. Waiting for the next Aubrey/Maturin to arrive from B.D.

How come you don't actually place reviews on good reads?

LOLOLOL!!!!!!!

The list of famous people I drool over is as follows:
-Chris Colfer
-Johnny Depp
-Angus Stone
-Travis Cloke
-Jimmy Bartel
As you can tell, Gale Hawthorne, the actor AND character, can not be found of such a list.
That is all :)

I agree with Johnny Depp, as would my daughter. She is a mad fan.
I am old enough to drool over others, like Kevin Spacey.

It sounds like it would be a good meeting ... her book is the next on my list to read, I just have a few library books to knock off, so that I can give the overdue reminder notices to my son for scrap paper.
