What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book)

I read that one a little while ago. My comment: Sorely in need of some judicious editing, especially 'commas'! While the historical content was interesting, for me, the story was slow and too fragmented to be seriously considered a good read.

Is it too much description, too much information or simply too many words used to describe the same thing?

That is a strange name. From the title, I assumed it was a cookbook, or perhaps a book about the nu..."
No Susan, the silly name I am referring to is the main character, Christmas Livingstone, who owns the Chocolate Apothecary and yes, down believe in the medicinal properties of chocolate.

Too many words about the same thing. Or pages of waffle not relevant in any way. I don't mean too long - some of my favourite books are over 900 pages - but words that are wasting my reading time. It's hard to describe but I know it when I am reading it:) Usually I sit there with the book saying things like "Oh just get on with it"

Now Christmas Livingstone is a really silly name! Imagine the schoolyard teasing and vulgar jokes [shudder].
As for a shop called "The Chocolate Apothecary"... No, the whole thing sounds very hippy-dippy to me. The cover is pretty though!

Personally, I enjoy long descriptions of atmosphere, scenery etc, but only in the hands of a skilled writer. Otherwise, it's just annoying.
I guess my definition of "too wordy" is long sentences which I have to parse to figure out the meaning (then mentally get out my red pen and edit). Again, it's a matter of the writer's skill.

On the other hand, I like Phrynne's "get on with it". Insomnia is a classic example for me. It could have been at least half the length and still been a good story.

It was a different sort of love story - I think a few others have commented here on how much they enjoyed it.
Lovely review Carolyn:) I won't get my copy until I get home as it's floating in the ether at the moment;)

I have a lot floating in the ether already, and my daughter has said some physical books have arrived too:D

Tango, are you usually a King fan? I've been curious about that book but I'm iffy on how..."
I have enjoyed every Stephen King book I've read but I haven't read them all. I watched this on DVD but I felt sure that the book would be better.

You'll be busy prioritising when you get home Brenda! Did you take a mixture of hard copy and e-reader on holidays, or just e-reader?

Glad you enjoyed it Marianne. Means a lot coming from the book whisperer.

(going to be busy catching up with reviews over Easter- in between egg eating)
Now reading something completly different - Clade by James Bradley - brilliant piece of work dealing with one possible scenario of global warming. So well written and very easy to read yet making you very aware of what is going on.

Hen lit? LOL

Lol, "Hen's Lit"! I'm adding that one to my bookshelf genres ;) You get those eggs ready Sally 'cause I'm dying to read your review of this one!

Liz Byrski is one whose books I really enjoy too, Marianne

And that sent me to my Aussie Author Challenge post to change Chick Lit to Hen's Lit and add one of her books there, LOL

It was brilliant, my favorite read so far this year too Alik.

Started Short History of a Prince by Jane Hamilton; this is another re-read for me.

Alik wrote: "Thank you Marianne for ordering in A Man Called Ove from our local library. I have just finished reading it and it was by far the best read of 2015 for me to date. It will take a very special book ..."
So glad you enjoyed that book Alik! I agree, I loved it too:)

I have now picked up The Chocolate Promise by Josephine Moon - I know a few of you have had a problem with the main characters name - Christmas - but the knowledge didn't bother me as I went to school with a girl with that name. But we all called her Chrissy - this character remains Christmas in full!!!

Serious book, fun book, audiobook :)
