What Are You Currently Reading? (doesn't have to be an Aussie book)
Finished The Summer Without Men by Siri Hustvedt. My short review is at: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Really great story Sharon:)
Really great story Sharon:)
I was really keen to get the audiobook of the new book by Colleen McCollough Bittersweet(I can't find the book in the list to link)but then I listened to a sample and I didn't like the narrator's voice at all. It's been a long time since I've read one of her books.
So instead today I started The Fault in Our Stars
I have just started reading Bittersweet this weekend and am enjoying it. I too have not read a Colleen McCullough book for years either.
Halfway through
and I think I like this one more than the last. I love everything Jasper Fforde does!

I loved this one, did not go where I expected
Rain and wind all day yesterday, so I read The Paris Wife by Paula McLain. Something different from what I have been reading but I loved this book and would happily sit and read it again. 4★My review is at: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

How funny the difference in temperatures, Bette. It was in the 30s here yesterday. But did rain in the evening and cool down which was nice. Temp dropped about 14 degrees today.

Aren't you enjoying it Phrynne?

Michael wrote: "I recently finished the second book in Alan Carter's Cato Kwong series Getting Warmer. For anyone wanting a gritty Aussie crime read this one comes strongly recommended along with his first one...."
I'm NOT reading anymore of your or Brenda's reviews Michael cause I just end up putting them on my TBR, they're that good!!! I need to stop adding books. I'll wait a bit and read it later on. :)
Brenda wrote: "Elaine wrote: "OMG!!! Reading Evidence of Life
. this book is great!!!"It is, isn't it:)"
Absolutely Brenda.
Phrynne wrote, i'm currently reading.... That is one of my top rated books. Might be hard in the first few chapters, and also some of the subjects that can be rather challenging for those that have not been to a war zone before. But it is a great book. Hope you will finish it Phrynne. :)

I've finished Border Songs by Jim Lynch. A comical/serious read. 4★My review is at: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Yesterday, I saw my specialist who runs notoriously late. I waited two hours for my 10am appointment. Luckily, I had taken Farther Away by Jonathan Franzen with me.
This is a collection of essays and speeches written in the last five years. It covers various issues which are important to Franzen including the life and suicide of his dear friend David Foster Wallace. It traces the progress of Franzen's unique and mature mind wrestling with itself, with literature, and with some of the most important issues of our day.
A very intimate portrait of the author. And who'd have thought it? Franzen is a devoted bird watcher!

Aren't you enjoying it Phrynne?"
No I am not enjoying it much Brenda!
Joanne thought it might be because of the war setting but it is not that. What I am not enjoying is the way the author has set a very lightweight romantic novel against such a serious background. In my mind the two do not go together at all! I know the author lived there herself so maybe she could have done more justice to the situation if she had written an autobigraphy of her own real experiences.

I've wondered about this one for quite awhile, but I don't think I'll worry now, with having sooo many others to read. Thanks Phrynne:)

And of course we cannot all like the same books - thank goodness or it would be a boring world! This one just didn't do it for me but I know lots and lots of people loved it.

I've just started The Briny Cafe by Susan Duncan. Not the one I was going to read next, but as I received her new book Gone Fishing yesterday, and discovered I hadn't read The Briny Cafe AND it's a sequel, I thought I'd better get started!
This evening I started The Bat by Jo Nesbø and it is really good! Especially because it is set in Sydney. Looks like I have found myself another series..........

It sure is great Michele. I'll have to try and get the movie.
I've finished You Deserve Nothing by Alexander Maksik. 2.5★My review is at: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I also finished The Whore's Child and Other Stories a short story collection by Richard Russo 4★My review is at: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Lexicon finished - I breezed through this one, very good. Although I saw the twists (if you can call them that) coming from miles away.
11 freezing degrees here yesterday, so I tucked up and read When We Were the Kennedys: A Memoir from Mexico, Maine by Monica Wood. A gorgeous little book 5★My review is at: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Reading The Eagle Boys Pizza Story & listening to Strung Out In Heaven Brian Jonestown Massacre. The book isn't listed on Goodreads but any Australian knows Eagle boys and what a story told by a chin-wagger-from-hell. Very good!
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. It is REALLY good. Wish I could sit down and finish it in one go. Work is a pain. It gets in the way of quality reading time.
Phrynne wrote: "Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury. It is REALLY good."Yes it is.
Great author, Bradbury Fahrenheit 451 also excellent.

Thanks - I will try that one next. It sounds exactly my type of book.
