Have to say I often have trouble relating to characters like that LOL but I usually like Kristin Hannah's books so will be interested to know what you think as you progress.

I'm currently reading
Song of the Jikhoshi by Aussie author Katie W. Stewart I loved the first one Treespeaker and even though I'm only 10% in, this one looks to be as good, at least!

Just finished Room by Emma Donoghue. It is a fast read and I couldn't put it down, but it was a little creepy.
Liam wrote: "I'm currently listening to Back Story, David Mitchell's autobiography on my drives to work - it is read by the man himself, which I think is why I'm enjoying it so much. I can only really se..."The Fry Chronicles is on my Winter Challenge and I can't wait to read it.
But you're right. Hearing Fry read the book would be amazing (that sexy British accent) and with all the inflections he puts on words.
Alone in Berlin by Hans Falada. I visited Berlin a few weeks ago and am reading this again now that I have a little knowledge of the city and its streets. Pity I didn't read it while I was actually there. I love to read books about the place I'm in at the time. Does anyone else do this ?

Alone in Berlin by Hans Fallada :)
Alone in Berlin by Hans Fallada :)
Alone in Berlin by Hans FalladaI would loved to have read The Shadow of the Wind or The Angel's Game while I was in Barcelona but unfortunately the english translation was released a year or so after my trip.
They are special though and I still do have a vivid memory of the places mentioned in the book :)
Great to have new titles introduced to you. Thanks Mish and Brenda. I will line these up for next time I'm heading to Barcelona.
Finished Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah last night. No review from me for this one.Suffice to say, good reading time wasted on a book I didn't like. Found myself doing anything else except this book. One dimensional characters, story which could have been good but wasn't.
Definitely won't read Kristin Hannah ever again.
Just completed World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War and it was wonderful.Review - http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I've actually liked some of her others, Bette but sound like this one is not a good read.
Brenda wrote: "Finished another amazing book today The Shadow Year by Aussie author Hannah Richell"Ooh that does sound good Brenda - it's now on my list ;)

Currently on Abaddon's Gate, third book of the Expanse. Loving it, these are such fantastic space operas.
I've just finished The Shortest Way Home by Juliette Fay. A 'side-read' from my Challenge books. A refreshing likeable read. Fay did not disappoint...My review is at: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I'm now reading
The Fry Chronicles by Stephen Fry. I've been hanging out for this one. And it's part of my Winter Challenge.

Maybe I just lucked onto a book that didn't suit me, Dale. I know she is a successful author of some 18 books so she can't be all that bad... :)
I just finished Letters from Skye: A Novelby Jessica Brockmolean epistolary novel. If you love sweet reads, and a story told rather beautifully, then this is a good one.Now I'm reading The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory
I am also reading The Life of David Gale by Dewey Gram. The story of a college professor and anti-death penalty campaigner who is charged with murder and sentenced to death.
I have finished The Children 5 starsIt’s not an easy book to read as the characters are unlikable and the family slightly dysfunctional, but I liked it more then I thought I would. Wood’s descriptions are very visual, Mandy situation was moving and it had me thinking a lot about the family’s behaviour - why they are like this & when did it all go wrong.

You're right in your description there Mish! A very disfunctional family:) But I enjoyed it too.

My review is now up for The Girl You Left Behind You can find it herehttp://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Just finished Abaddon's Gate - absolutely fantastic. Any science-fiction fans who haven't read The Expanse series yet, get on your bike!
I finished last night The Unicorn Tree by Cynthia Collins. This was a GR first-reads win, and it was absolutely fantastic! My review will follow:)
Tango wrote: "Audio books are great for driving. I have a 35 minute drive to and from work. Sometimes I wish it were further when I get to a really good bit."I'm listening to 1Q84 at the moment. It's fascinating to have someone (in my case, 2 people, 1 male and 1 female) read the book to you. I enjoy it immensely!! Like you said, sometimes I wish the drive was longer!!
I am currently reading Silver Clouds by Fleur McDonald brilliant book so far :)

Just finished The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie; not sure if I like it :(
Lit Bug wrote: "Reading Neuromancer by William Gibson, the first in the Sprawl Trilogy."Ooh, interested to see what you think of it. I keep meaning to read it, it's supposed to be sort of the father of all Cyberpunk.
Yes, it is considered that, and so far (10 pages) I'm loving it. I intend to read the complete trilogy...
Just finished A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. One of the best books I've read. Such a powerful ending.

So I've schlepped off my Challenge list and over to books given to me. I'm reading Father of the Rain by Lily King; a book sometimes shelved as chick-lit but happily is not.About the painful deterioration of a once close father-daughter relationship after divorce.
Alik wrote: "Just finished A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. One of the best books I've read. Such a powerful ending."I agree it’s fantastic. I’d like to read his latest book The Crane Wife at some stage. It looks really good.
